Main Dishes / Re: Swedish meatballs converted from Taste.com.au
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:37:35 pm »
Made this for dinner last night. Got all the way to the last step where you add the cream and thought "where did I add the first lot of cream?" Went to the original recipe and found that the bread should have been soaked in the cream before making into crumbs. Oh well, it still tasted great without that.

Must admit I was a little worried about the little amount of liquid used to steam the meatballs and checked on it a few times. No problems there! I added steamed vegetables to the varoma at step 6 and also added a little extra stock paste in the last step as I felt it was a little bland. I was also very generous with some pepper as well. All in all a very quick and tasty meal. Thanks for posting!  ;D

Twitterpated, your comments reminded me of this web site.

Got a good laugh out of some of those. Who would of thought there was a whole site dedicated to this.

Can some one suggest somewhere I can buy in bulk in the south east Melb area.

A quick google found that asian grocery stores and Bunnings quite often sell bicarb in bulk. I also found 1 & 2kg buckets on another site for horse supplies. Apparently it improves their performance by delaying the onset of fatigue (useless fact there) so if there are any of these types of shops in your area it might be worth a phone call.

Also there was a discussion here about making your own vinegar.

Wow Maddy that's expensive. Haven't had a chance to have another look at it yet. Might have to revert to the ways of old and use a saucepan (shock, horror.....did I say that out loud?) just to be sure. I have no problems throwing away a saucepan (expensive as they are) but I'm not sure if I want to risk my bowl either. Might think on it for a while. Not going to get a chance this weekend so that'll give me some time to decide. Maybe in the meantime someone might come to our rescue.

Both DH and I completed our apprenticeships at a newspaper and we often have little competitions to "find the mistake" in printed documents and on signs. Proofreading the copy was one of our jobs and we had to be very thorough or face the editor and manager if you let one slip through.

It looks firm-ish. May be alright JD. Will be interested to read Cookie's reply.

Just made some raspberry vinegar yesterday for another recipe so when I read this I thought there must be a way to make it as well. Glad I looked as I will make too - no hope of buying this locally here.

Will have to try this one. Love sago and mango as well. As I'm dieting at the moment it will have to wait until I reach my goal weight.

I always buy tomato paste in a jar. Once opened I store in the fridge upside down. Never goes mouldy this way.

There is a recipe for the pomegranate molasses here. Looks really easy to make. Might even be easier than trying to find it in a shop. I know it will be here.

Made this last night for DH & two teenagers. Was very quick and easy to make - I made the sauce in the afternoon and added cooked prawns before reheating and serving. It was probably just as well I wasn't eating it as it wouldn't have fed 4 of us with the rice. Next time I would double the recipe and probably thicken the sauce a little as I thought it was a bit too thin. A very tasty result though with pleasing slurpy noises all round.

I did it too with a large bowl (5 litres) of pumpkin soup that I was taking to a friend for their family dinners and to freeze. Someone took right of way off me and I had to hit the brakes. The bowl was on the floor on the passenger side and it hit the firewall and the lid popped off. That stuff takes forever to clean up. Luckily there was enough left in the bowl to salvage for their dinner.

I always have Thermomixer's onion jam in the fridge and add to recipes for a little flavour boost. Always add it to the gravy in bangers and mash.

Hi Hally, I found this site which talks about the stalk as well. Never heard of it but will be giving it a go when I am next at the supermarket.
