want to make josie's meatloaf for dinner http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html but do you really put a sweet potato and a potato in the tomato sauce or are they the vegies to go with the meal>??????
-
It certainly looks like you do Karen as there are vegies in the first part of the recipe that you place around the formed meatloaf. It does say add everything in the sauce recipe - might just be a way of getting vegies in there for the kids.

dh didn't end up making it as it confused him too much :D
hopefully someone knows - they actually did this at the cooking class i went to but i don't remember how they did it (they didn't hand out any recipes at all which i was very disappointed about)
-
A cooking class without recipes is a bit of a let down. Didn't anyone complain about it?
-
i have no idea! i can't even remember if they had a feedback form. i think they might have actually because i have a feeling i thought the form was heavily weighted towards getting positive answers lol

Brazen,
Have only made the meatloaf once, but did however put the sweet potato and potato in the sauce. I think from mempory it was a pretty heavy and rich sauce.
-
thanks ILB. i might give it a go later this week myself ;)
-
Checked out the recipe and think we need to get in touch with Tenina or Josie Pino - that is one crazy recipe. I have heard that it is a winner, but think it needs to be explained a bit more. Will check it out again when I ahve time ???

i kind of made it last night (just blogging it now) and it does work (and was delicious), but yes, it is a very confusing recipe.

Hi Meatloafers
Yes, the recipe looks confusing. But it was one of the first things I tried as I'd heard it was good and wanted to use the Varoma. I didn't bother "stuffing" or "wrapping" my meatloaf. So I just made the mince mixture and shaped it into a meatloaf and popped it in the dish. Easy peasy! And it was delicious.
Red Sauce - yes the sauce does have sweet potato, carrot and potato in it. I think the idea is to get those vegies into us! Personally, I found it very sweet which I don't like. But others love it!
Has anyone got another sauce idea?

How about the Arrabiatta sauce in the EDC or the Tomato Pasta Sauce - I remember Cookie1 commenting on both those sauces.
-
I have made the meatloaf with the mushroom sauce on the following page in EDC. DELIOUS I was a bit dubious about steamed meatloaf but was surprised at how great it was. My DH also liked it and he is a BBQ man through and through.
-
I have never made the meatloaf in the VAroma for that reason. If your DH liked it and he is a BBQ person then I'm sure mine will as he is too.
-
Hmm, will try Arrabiatta next time. Without the chilli for me, and probably with basil pesto in it. Will try to remember to post the results.
The leftover meatloaf is great sliced in sandwiches or maybe with a salad. That's assuming you have any leftover!
-
You know, even though I am not a meat loaf fan, I may even try this myself after those reviews. Nice in summer with a salad perhaps. Mind you, having said that I am not a fan, I don't remember ever having eaten one so I don't know what I base that assumption on ??? ???

When I was in high school we had to make a meat loaf in the Food & Nutrition class (cooking) . It was so really quite bland that I have never wanted to make one since.
-
Yes, my DD made one too and the best part of it was the BBQ sauce topping which made me think they should have had thin layers of meat then topping until the tin was full. Might have tasted better. Maybe this is what turned me off meatloaf. I didn't think I had tried one but your posting bought it back to me (that was 23 years ago when she would have made it).

LOL my kids LOVE Meatloaf with BBQ sauce (it's a WW recipe). They also like the varoma meatloaf. I make the mushroom sauce to go with it or else a chunky tomato one out of what ever I have in the fridge.
-
Lots of ideas - how about Asian based sauces with soy/rice wine/chilli, Quirky Jo's tomato, the gingery tomato with Jane Lawson's yoshoku meatballs??
-
Thanks for all the great ideas!

So the wrapping with foil is just for the shape, and then you remove the foil completely to cook it? Because the recipe only says to remove the foil from the bottom of the meatloaf....
I'm hoping to cook it for dinner tonight, I'm just ??? ??? ??? over the wrapping.

It might be too late but when I made this I didn't cook it with foil. It was yummy, I do think you need the proscuitto to wrap it though because it doesn't look very appealing without!
