Australian Rules Football

Does anyone else follow AFL? I am a tragic, diehard West Coast Eagles fan. I'm looking forward to the season starting.

You might start something here Cookie1 and divide the nation at the same time
I'm a Port member and everyone hates us
I am a South Australian though so want both teams to do well, even went to the Crows second premiership win a bit back.

I feel sorry for Port at the moment JD. They are having finance problems aren't they?

Apparently so but then I guess a lot of other clubs are too so I guess they will work through it.

Great match Riv Mum - suspense was killing me. Hate watching these types of matches on TV - find it much easier on the nerves to actually be there. So many young kids in the team - they did extremely well. I'm off to our match tomorrow - 30o, a bit too hot really for footy and glad I'm only watching!

I second that Judy. Adelaide did very well. Hopefully Port will do as well. I just heard the score on the Brisbane/Eagles match and we are no longer in front. Not to worry, our first half was better than expected.

Yes, I do miss it during the summer. Each year my DH says "didn't we see this game last year?". He dislikes AFL intensely. Lucky I converted daughter.

Sorry your team lost Cookie, only just though! Ours was a good match today, bit warm though in the sun. No footy now for 2 weeks and thank you, yes we hope to have a good holiday.

LUV IT - I support Geelong - wish I hadn't seen that game last year. I have been around since the early 60's when Polly Farmer was my hero.
To have won 43 out of 46 matches means ZERO when you can't win the big one.

Thermomixer, how right you are. I certainly remember Polly Farmer, Barry Cable, Graham Moss, etc. I grew up listening to the footy. Firstly WA footy as a kid (on a very ancient radioi that crackled all the time) and then in the last few years AFL.
I have a very dear Aunt who lives in Geelong and is now 93 or 94. Her nephew/great nephew is Barry Stoneham. When Geelong have lost a game over the last umpteen years she becomes physically ill. I was so pleased to think she was still around for Geelong to win the cup, but then last year wasn't too good.

Riv mum I had to run and consult my fixtures list! The derbies are on that weekend. Do you call it a derby there? We head for 5 weeks at Monkey Mia then but we'll be home for that. I'm a real tragic I'm afraid. We actually have a satellite dish for when we travel so that I can see the football and DH can see the news. (amongst other things)
