Yes we were surprised when we saw that we were to have two emotive subject books after each other. But I guess heaven and alzheimer's don't mean much to the 30 year old librarians. :D :D :D :D

I'm reading Practical Jean at the moment, not really grabbing me yet.
... same here.

Are you enjoying it Cuilidh? It's one of the many that I have waiting to be read on my kindle.
Certainly an unusual storyline and hope it has some humour in there ;)

Our new book for book club is 'Still Alice ' by Lisa Genova. It is about a woman's trip through Alzheimer's disease.
We had heaps of discussion with 'The Lovely Bones'.

Ooh, I loved both of her books - she is such a great writer & tackles tricky subjects in a very accessible way.

I've just finished "Toby's Room" by Pat Barker.  She writes a lot about the first world war & those affected by it, but this wasn't one of her best.  Her three earlier books, "The Regeneration Trilogy" were fabulous.

Am I the only one still reading??

Where are you, ladies??

I've just finished "Thunderstruck" by Eric Larson, a non-fiction account of the development of wireless & it's role in capturing the notorious London murderer, Dr. Crippen.

Not as exciting and un-put-down- able as some of his others, but so admirably well researched.  Love his stuff.

Took the kids to the library last week - wasn't intending to get anything for myself as I've got plenty to read on my kindle. But..... as soon as I walked in I saw 'the casual vacancy' sitting on a shelf so I grabbed it! I'm still reading practical jean on the train but have started the casual vacancy as well - enjoying both.

An excellent book - such a good achievement for a first novel.
