I've been on the Lifehacker site again - it is rapidly becoming one of my favourites - and came across this article on basic cooking ratios.  Hope you find it useful

I always modify recipes like this. They generally work out. And when they don't the chooks are happy!

Thanks Marina.  This is basically what I do but it is nice to see it written down.
