Chit Chat / can i substitute for pine nuts? please help

Hi Im making the potato and artichoke gratin for dinner (its in oven) but just opened pine nuts to discover bugs in them - is there anthing I can use to substitute for the pine nuts? I have walnuts, almonds, cashews, macadamias in cupboard

Absolutely beautiful.  Only got the book yesterday so can't wait to try some more recipes.
I added a little cornflour and water paste at the end with the basil and capsicum only because we like our sauce a little thicker, but that's just a personal preference.

Chit Chat / OT but please read if you have children/grandchildren etc

Hi everyone,
As some of you are aware, we lost our 4yr old son, Tom Olive in august last year suddenly.  After months of testing, we have found out cause of death was due to a rare genetic condition.  However, there have been 3 confirmed cases of this condition in Australia alone, all within one month of each other, so doctors are now thinking that it may not be so rare - more likely that they don't know much about it and testing isn't even available here - only in Paris in a research lab.

I am writing this as I have opened a facebook page with the symptoms and stories from the other families here in Australia (one little boy is lucky enough to be alive).  Hopefully if enough people read it and pass it on to friends, we may be able to save another child who may be suffering the same symptoms.  I need to stress that Tom was a very healthy little boy, active and other than a few "episodes" of leg/back pain and red urine, there appeared to be nothing wrong with him, so for him to have breakfast one morning and then within hours have passed away, it was a huge shock. 

There are two Tom's (both deceased) with the condition and a little boy in Vic who is alive.

Main Dishes / Honey Mustard Chicken

Sorry haven't been on much but thought you might like this recipe for Honey Mustard Chicken which I usually serve with rice.  It's a quick and tasty meal that my family likes. Can't remember where I got it from originally but I converted it from somewhere (a magazine or somewhere I think)  I have heaps more recipes to post and will do so when I have time.

Name of Recipe:HONEY MUSTARD CHICKEN
Number of People:
Ingredients:550g chicken cubed
1 onion, halvd
20g wholegrain mustard (can reduce if prefer)
1/2 tsp tumeric
1tbspn stock paste
30g honey
20g flour
100g water
150ml cream
30g olive oil


Preparation:
Put onion in TM and chop for 3 sec speed 7.  Add oil and saute for 2 min speed 1 at 100deg
Add tumeric and flour and stir for 3 sec on speed 4
Add water and cook 1 min, 70 deg on speed 1
Place chicken, stock, mustard and honey into bowl and cook for 5 min, 100deg, reverse and speed soft
Add cream and cook for 20 min,100deg reverse and speed soft
If you like a thicker sauce add some cornflour and water paste and cook for further 2 min, 100deg speed soft and reverse.

Chit Chat / Ideas needed for kindy "dinner" evening

Hi all
sorry haven't been on for AGES - major computer dramas.  But all fixed now so will post a heap of recipes I've been making soon.
I have a kindergarten "dinner" tomorrow night to go to and we have to take a plate to share.  Other people are taking the usual, mini quiches, sausage rolls, pizzas etc Need some suggestions as to what to take (preferably to get ready tonight as I work tomorrow).  Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you

Chit Chat / "toy" thermomix????

HI all,
thought I'd post here hoping for some information lol.
In previous searching of internet about thermomix, I'm sure I saw someone mention a toy thermomix but for the life of me I can't find it now.  It wasn't here in Australia I know that much, but does anyone know anything about this and if so where I could get one from?

Main Dishes / Steamed Meatballs with Tomato Sauce

Name of Recipe: Meatballs with tomato sauce
Number of People:
Ingredients:

500g beef
80g bread (for crumbs)
1 egg
1 onion
1 carrot

SAUCE:  1 onion
3 celery sticks
20g oil
180g tomatos, quartered
2tspn vege stock (made in thermomix)
200g water
2tbspn flour
pepper
1tsp paprika



Preparation:

Put bread in thermomix and make breadcrumbs (sorry I didn't use exact times or speeds).  Place to one side.

Make mince from meat and add other ingredients, including breadcrumbs.  Make into meatballs and place on oiled varoma trays.  Put in fridge for 15 min.

Put all ingredients for the sauce in the thermomix and use speed 8 for 10 sec.  

Put the varoma on top and cook for 25 min at varoma temperature on speed 1.

I had this with the garlic rice and it was really nice (steamed meatballs have a different flavour to fried though so bear that in mind.

Can't remember where I got this recipe but I adapted it to suit the thermomix.

I did the garlic rice while the meatballs were in the fridge (ie before cooking them) and put it in the thermoserver and it was still warm when served.

Hi all,
Im going to see my family next weekend and am taking tmx with me - i'm sure they think it was a waste of money but they've never seen it yet lol
so, thought i'd take it down and cook dinner for everyone - there'll be 8 adults and 3 toddlers.
would love your opinions on what to cook with minimal effort but shows thermi off (i totally love it by the way and am sure they will once they see it going).
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
oh - it's a 3hr drive so can't really prepare much cold stuff earlier at home to take down with me.

Recipe Requests / Penang Thai Chicken and beef massamum?????

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help but having a Thai night with some friends soon and I'd love a recipe for the above (penang chicken and beef massamum) if anyone has one.  I normally use a prepackaged curry paste in the wok but would love a recipe for the thermomix if any one has one that works.
