Desserts / Re: Delicious Rice Pudding
« on: January 31, 2010, 02:51:05 am »
Have just popped this one into the fridge - how am I going to wait 2 hours for it to set  ??? ??? ???

I have never used the Nestle Top 'n' Fill Caramel before either Trudy so we will see how it goes.  It certainly is thick but it says on the can to stir it before using if you want a softer consistency.

I cut back on the sugar isi, (used 130g) as I am eating far too much sugar since I got my TMX and need to cut down wherever I can. I licked the bowl (well not literally, my tongue isn't that long) and it tasted great and the sweetness of the caramel will make up for the lesser amount in the rice pudding.  Can't wait to cut myself a slice.  Used a lovely patterned silicon form that I've had for years and never used before.

Yes, go up the sides of the pie plate but not all the way to the top of the dish. I leave a 2cm space at the top so that when  you pour the liquid in, it covers all the rice. It can get a bit crispy if left uncovered.

I'm just going to use the condensed type caramel pie filling this time Trudy - can't make Dulc de Lechy again until I get a new seal as it drips everywhere.

Ooh I do like the sound of this one isi.  I love the creamed rice in our EDC but this would be completely different and is on my list of things to do today perhaps.

Disappointing isn't it Cathy - makes you wonder if these recipes are even tested.

Today I made 4 pizzas, a batch of lemonade and chicken/rice balls.  Had a good clearout of the freezer for the pizzas - I'd say 8 little bags of bits and pieces were used up. I only had to buy a tub of bocconcini for 2 of the pizzas.

Hi bellesy welcome to the forum.  It works everytime - have your DH at a demo and you will end up with a TMX.  I guess getting them there is the hardest thing but so much easier if the demo is in your own home. I was scared stiff of mine when I took delivery but it is just second nature using it now. You will get a lot of use out of your thermoserver - they are very handy indeed.  Please do get back to us and let us know how you are getting on with your TMX and what you have been cooking - everyone is interested hearing from newcomers.  Afterall, we were all newcomers once.

Now you have got everything you want for travelling Cookie1 - TMX & computer.  It is hard to go away and leave them behind and there is so much to catch up on when you get back.

Hi ozzy-dj, welcome to the forum.  Like you, I bought my TMX with main meals in mind.  I like desserts but they last so long in this house with just me eating them - DH is not a sweet lover and only eats them if we have visitors for some reason.  Lots of other things to make though which I have never attempted before like bread, jams etc.  and I always make sure I have some sort of cake or muffin in the freezer for visitors. Everything is so easy to make you will find yourself doing things just for the fun of it.  Sharing is what this forum is all about - it is a very happy, friendly group of people.

It was the only cake my mum used to make!  I've also done it in cans Thermomixer and still have them sitting in the back of the cupboard.  Memories - isn't it nice that us oldies can share these times with each other.  I sometimes substitute the sultanas for chopped apricots or dates Cookie1.  Nice sliced and buttered but I haven't done them for years now.

It doesn't sound right baf65 - that's how much my TM31 cost back in Oct '08.
