I've done it a couple of times, but realised in time to save the meal - although I was running late by the time I'd finished cooking!

Rules and Instructions Of Use / Re: MC on or off

I know you will get more informed responses than mine, Korrick, but I usually leave my MC on for most cooking and take it off if I want to thicken whatever it is that I am cooking, i.e. sauces, etc.

I had often wondered how come several people had the same avatar.  I thought it was just me going quietly nuts here and getting even more confused than ever.

DizzyGirl, try this for your first varoma meal.  It's Quirky Jo's chicken and cashew recipe.  You'll see references to it all over this forum, it is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST meal, really easy and super tasty.  I'm pretty sure it was the first meal I attempted in the varoma as well and it has never failed.  DH always asks for it and he thinks it is restaurant quality (and with my cooking, that's quite a compliment - especially seeing as his mother was a professional cook!).

For a tasty dessert, try Chookies Sweet Potato and Coconut Custards.

This is one of my regulars for lunches during the week.  For the pasta I usually use any small shape that I have to hand and I also add  a couple of tsp of grained mustard and usually c. 150 g of fetta.  I've recently stated tossing semi dried tomatoes on the top as well.  Ths slice iis very tasty and will take almost any variation you care to make.

Cecilia, there has been a bit of discussion here on coconut oil.  I get it from our local health food shop.

Wonderful news, Shan  I'm sure you'll have a great demonstration and will get such enjoyment out of having your own TMX after all this time.

What a great trip and wonderful present.  Guilin is a very beautiful area, we loved it up there and Yangshou is one of our favourite places in China - it has probably changed a great deal since we were last there about 18 years ago, but we used to love the restaurant called Minnie Mao's (with a big Micky Mouse drawing on the wall).  We used to cycle quite a lot around the area but then the local children started running in front of tourist bicycles hoping that they would get injured then forcing you pay out huge amounts of money or else they would get the authorities to hassle you - it was all very unpleasant and took the joy out of visiting the region, which was a real shame.  I still have lots of silk scarves which we bought on our trips there - they are amongst my favourites to wear.

Your cooking class sounds great, I don't think they had anything like that when we were there, but back in those days I wasn't particularly into cooking - I can only remember a big martial arts school.

I agree with your use of awesome in that context, Andie, it's the casual use of the word in inapporpriate situations that annoys me.  I also agree with the use of the word 'like', that's really annoying, as is the word 'so' - "I so don't like this book" ....

Perhaps the CWA may have something that is close to what you are looking for?  Do they have a recipe archive or old recipe books on the 'net somewhere that you could check on RosieB?

I've just thought of another couple of hates - the mis-use of many words, in particular the words hero and awesome really wind me up - and I'm sure I could think of more, given time.

Maybe I should apply to be on the TV programme "Grumpy (not so) old Women"
