Cookies in a Jar
This jar of cookie ingredients make great Christmas gifts, especially for teachers. Simply put the ingredients in a jar, decorate with ribbon and add a recipe card. I print out simple labels and recipe instructions on A4 sticker paper and stick them onto the jars, but you can use cards, gift tags, etc. You can use almost any cookie recipe, as long as the ingredients fit in the jar. This recipe is one of my favourite recipes at the moment and is Cookie's Chocolate Chip Anzac Biscuits found here http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5047.msg63884#msg63884, adapted to suit the jar and making by hand.
Jar ingredients:
1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon bi-carb soda
3/4 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup white sugar
15g coconut
1/2 cup craisons
90g milk, dark or white chocolate chips
Additional ingredients to make cookies:
125g butter, melted
3 tablespoons golden syrup
Method:
In a large glass jar (approx. 1 litre, I used a large Nescafe coffee jar), place a layer of each ingredient in this order:
- plain flour and bi-carb soda
- rolled oats
- white sugar
- coconut
- craisons
- chocolate chips
Seal the lid tightly. You may need to push each layer down a bit to fit all the ingredients in. If your jars are a bit larger, just stuff some tissue paper in the top. Decorate your jar and add the following instructions.
To make cookies:
Preheat oven to 190°C.
Empty jar ingredients into a large bowl.
Stir well to combine and add 125g melted butter and 3 tablespoons of golden syrup.
Mix until well combined.
Roll spoonfuls of mixture into balls and place on trays lined with baking paper.
Press down gently with a fork.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
Cool on wire rack.

This is such a great idea Kim. Made the brownies and the cookie jars today. Idon't have adhesive labels that make yours look so professional. I just printed onto cardstock but am very pleased with the result.

Kim, everyone raved over the brownies in a jar that I took to work today for the hamper.
I told them how you make them for teachers presents and at morning tea we looked your photo up using someones iphone.
They thought using the coffee jars was such a fab idea and loved the your labels. Thankyou so much for sharing the idea. :D

I am so pleased Michelle and thank you for your kind comments. I first stumbled on it when surfing the net a few years ago and if you google it you will find heaps more ideas for jars too. :D

These look wonderful, will definitely make soon :) but I'll try to substitute plain flour with coconut flour, I often make cookies and biscuits with coconut flour, the taste is a little bit different but also very nice.

They are terrific . . a friend gave me one at Christmas, but instead of a jar, the ingredients were in a lovely glass vase sealed at the top with gladwrap, some pretty material and a bow and of course the instructions . .

I'm going to make these for my DD's in-laws as I'll be seeing them on Christmas Day and I like to give everyone there a gift. It's time to start thinking of ideas like this so bumping for everyone.

I made these last Christmas and also did soup mixes and savory rice mixes they were very popular. Good for last minute gifts.

These are great. Made lots of these with the GC last year. We first went to the shops and bought all the jars and goodies. They loved the activity and giving them to their friends.

I made the cranberry hooticreeks for lots of people last year, so have to do something different this year. That's a shame because the cookies in jars are really great gifts. Will go back to making them again next year.

Love these. I also made them last year! I still might make some again this year for a few people. The name is enough to make you want to keep making them ;D
