I have used xylitol with great success when baking however I haven't tried it as icing sugar, has anyone else?, would love to know your ideas x

Quirky Jo will probably be the best person to answer this question but I googled it and came up with one question & answer which may help. It is from this website http://www.xylitolforyou.com/FAQ.html
Q20: I made a fudge with xylitol, and it turned out gritty. Cake incing also has gritty texture. How do I prevent this?
A: I don't know the recipe you used for fudge, so I can't help much with that question. However, are you using the recipes in my cookbook for cake icing? If so, I can offer you some suggestions to try. Either buy the powdered xylitol commercially, or finely grind it in a blender or vita-mix machine, and sift it before using it in your recipes. Also, gradually (a couple of tablespoons at a time) beat the powdered xylitol into the butter, making sure that the xylitol is fully incorporated before adding additional amounts of it. If the icing seems too dry while you are making it, add small amounts of the liquid in the recipe (usually milk and/or flavorings) gradually between additions of powdered xylitol in order to keep the consistency correct. I hope these suggestions help.

:D :D :D Apart from the forum members, Mr Google is my best friend Cookie :-*

Good answer JD! I don't actually use xylitol - I prefer Rapadura - yummy flavour and lots of goodness :)

Thanks everyone, and yes Judy google is also my friend. :D I stay away from rapadura as it effects my sons blood sugar levels too much he has type 1 diabetes. I find with xylitolit is a great substitute even though it is a little more expensive.
Thanks again x

Ah, yes, xylitol is good for diabetics. Did you figure out the icing?

Please remember that xylitol is fatal for dogs.
Don't let them eat any in cooking and be careful if you have bulk quantities in the pantry.
It is a very painful way for them to die and there is very little vets can do to help them.
