I-pad App
« on: August 08, 2011, 05:57:08 am »
Hi just wondering if there is an ipad available for the forum? Think it would be great to be able to have a recipe at your fingertips when you are cooking. Still working on getting my TMX so if there isn't an app now can on pleaaaase be developed!!

There was some discussion about this not so long ago, but nothing specific to the TMX is available as yet.

Don't know if this helps,  but this is what I do when I want to use my iPad in the kitchen to access recipes.

Locate the recipe on the iPad,  this could be on my Blog,  the Forum or any where else.

Mark it with Book mark and mark it on Home screen.

When you want to use the recipe,  just tap it up.

It can be kept and bundled with other recipes or removed.

When i am doing a day of cooking , I mark all the recipes that I want to use and this saves time and paper.

At the moment I'm doing a combination of things:

Just using Safari to read the recipe as I'm cooking (sometimes a pain)
Using Notes app with MobileMe/iCloud syncing to sort out the shopping list, so I grab it on my iPhone and check off as I shop.
Using Notes app to record URL's for interesting recipes and later adding them to the Mac app YummySoup!

YummySoup! now has a viewer app for the iPad / iPhone that lets you look (only look atm) at your recipes. At the moment though you have to manually sync the data yourself (not difficult but a pain) but that will change once Apple releases iCloud to the public and it will all be automatic. (I'm technically a developer, however not the YummySoup! developer, and have been testing iOS 5 and some of the iCloud syncing)

i still think that evernote is the best app and its free...there are many cookbook type apps out there but i find them limited to be honest..with evernote you can sort the recipes how you want and whether you are online or not you have permanent access to the recipes and can find them easily either by looking in the category you created for that type of recipe or do a search which always finds it quickly (i have alllllllllllot of recipes haha) and also if you have an iphone, ipad and pc or laptop etc it will syncronise between all of them and what you can add each month is huge and all FREE...cant get better than that..also you can add anything and everything into it...makes it handy when you are somewhere and you have all the info at your fingertips..the only time it uses internet is for updates or to synchronise..thanks MJ to putting me onto it some months back!! i use it all the time  ;D

I also use simplenote - similar to evernote but free.

Simplenote makes it easy to send the bloke shopping, I can be updating the shopping list while he is at the shops, perfect for that last minute thing you forgot!
