I think they are supposed to use bought pasta ....as usual my son sees a different way of doing things and would like to cut his own truss shapes out of pasta ....if we can't get it hard enough I suppose he will have no choice but to purchase commercial pasta

Looking for some advice and and experience has shown there is no better place to ask!

My son has to build a suspension bridge out of pasta ( year 12 engineering assignment ) he plans on making pasta and cutting into the shape he wants and then dryng it. We made a test batch yesterday  ( 1 eggs to 100g flour ) and it didn't really dry hard. well not like commercial pasta, obviously to build a bridge we need tough/dry pasta ...any clues or tips?

Chit Chat / Re: What Pizza Maker to Buy

I have the red pizza maker, I thought the stones were good untill I got it, it cooks the base so well, same as TM if it broke tomorrow I would buy another one, we have alot of topping and it takes 6 - 7 minutes to cook. Have made up to six in a row and you can cook them pretty must as fast as they can eat them.

I don't mind the cooking part its the deciding what to eat is the hassle, sometimes after dinner I ask them to give 6 meals they want to eat next week and the answer I always....always get is ...but everything you cook is so great, cook anything. Somehow they don't get its not the cooking part I want help with but the choosing part!
But I agree I have bought this on myself we rarely repeat the same meal in a month or more ....except homemade pizza & garlic bread every wednesday nite as we have family pizza and pool night ( pool table not swim )  :) I do just love it when we have extra people  for pizza and pool night and they comment that our home made pizzas are way better than store/takeout ones, I just make the bases the kids top them.
My inlaws still don't get it that I cook everything ...... they can't see to fathom that the bread, cakes, biscuits, icecream, lasanga,  everything we eat is made at home.

Reading on a different forum it seems this and the $999 deal have been pulled
copied from the other forum: I phoned Cost Deal and they explained that they have not been able to negotiate with the company to buy the thermomix and sell to us at such a reasonable price. They were lovely and said that they would be continuing to talk with the company in Germany but at this stage there is no certainty in us buying the thermomix at $999. My money has already been returned to me via pay pal, so all is safe and done.

I suppose this will continue to happen but think of the exposure that this online company got from something that they didn't have to sell!

Thanks for the input, in Harris Park there were 4 within walking distance, I managed to get a small ( one quart I think ) 1200ml thermal bowl that has a really good water tight seal on the lid, ( It has plastic handles would have prefered all SS But it was all they have ) It will be a good size for us, It is a Vinod brand, I also called into a Indian Spice shop and got 1kilo packets of Cumin, Tumeric etc, does anyone know if I can take out what I need and reseal and then freeze the rest or will it be just best eating lots of curries to use them up ( so cheap! ) I will try and get to the one at Homebush next time I am in Sydney

I will be in western Sydney  ( Parramatta and west ) tomorrow and  "may" have time to pop into a store to look for a Thermal Bowl, I know you guys have found them in Indian Food Supplies ( and I could top up on  spices ) Does anyone know of anywhere in that area ?

PS I live about 250kms from sydney so have to try and make the most of this opportunity

I have had some problems with eggs whites but seem to have it sorted now, I do the Vinegar clean and then dry with a teatowel BUT for me I "think" the success is starting off at a slower speed, I never got the liquid in the bottom but my whites would go foamy not glossy, now that I start slower for the first couple of minutes they work much better, not sure if this is 100% of the answer but seems to be working for me.

Thanks Girls for the great ideas, I am still temped by the Thermal cooker but thanks to Kathryn I realised that I have two of those 2 way fridges down in the garage that I have never used ( got them thru a promotion at work ) I will drag one out today and work out something to cook for tomorrow night, I could reheat put it in something ( not sure what yet ) then pop it in there till we are ready to eat. I will also look into getting one of those backpack picnic sets. I will try the fridge thing for a few weeks to see how it goes.
Thanks Again as usual ....ask and you will be answered ... your joint knowledge and williness to help never ceases to amaze me, it like have a big bunch of spare "mums" out there to help me out  :D

Opps.....maybe I should say sisters I am more than likely older than alot of you  :-[

Chit Chat / Thermal Bowl or Thermal cooker
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:28:12 am »
I spend one night a week away from home from 5pm till 11 pm with one of my childs committments, that means for the last 12 weeks we are having takeaway one night a week, or we go out for dinner. I am so over it  ( and the cost of it ) and want to start taking our evening meal with me, I only get about 30 minutes at home before we leave. Salad is OK now but it will be winter soon.
I have two ideas, a thermal pot ( like a dream pot ) so I could prep the meal the night before quickly cook it when I get home and put it in the thermal pot to cook and eat  a few hours later OR I could try and get a locking lid thermoserver type bowl ( which I havn't been able to find ) and cook the meal the night before and reheat, pop in the thermoserver and then eat later. We have to travel for and hour each way to get there so the TM thermoserver won't work well.
Does anyone have any experience with coping with this, we eat mainly primal so I am not a rice or pasta person but soup or casserole and veg would be fine. I also will have to deal with taking utensils etc ( which I thought I could put in a themal pot after eating for clean up at home.
Any Ideas?
PS I also thought that I could maybe use a dream pot type cooker to rise dough in the colder months by putting hot water in the bottom pot and bread dough in the top saucepan? Anyone tried this.
