I had no idea how to pronounce that volcano name. Even the news readers here seem to just say volcano in Finland.
My heart goes out to anyone affected as it must be horrid stuck in an airport with no knowledge of when you'll get home.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Yeah - I have noticed that but in America there are apparently alot of 'News Reader Bloopers' to do with it. I don't know how to pronounce it either but this is how Letterman says it. LOL!  :D I thought it was just an Aussie thing to make fun of a sophisticated language you are just not smart enough to pronounce but it must be American too. :-)) :D ;)

LOL - I have heard it pronounced properly by different people from Iceland and think, hey that's not that hard.  But then when I open my mouth i only get out the first 2 syllables.  I think hey-ya-forgot-ya-yoghurt is close enough  :D :D :D :D

Love the pronunciation help!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I can't pronounce it either and I am usually pretty good with place names.

The sister of one of my neighbors has been stuck in Hamar, Norway and was due to fly home on the day after the eruption began.

She doesn't mind, she is staying with her daughter and SiL.  Went there for the birth of her first grandchild.
Her daughter married a Finn who works in Norway for Nokia.   Strangely enough, she met him in Mexico while they were both on vacation (and both with other partners),  then carried on a long-distance romance for more than two years until they were finally married -  In San Diego.  Two months later they relocated to Norway.
My neighbor told me the girl had never been in snow, was an avid surfer and the entire family was flummoxed when she announced that they were going to live in Scandinavia.  Brrrrr.

OMG - cold and me don't mix.   She could take up snowboarding to mimic surfing?
