Buckwheat is sprouting very fast. Even soaking for 1 hour is enough and easy to digest. 2 cups unsoaked seeds will yield about 3 1/2 cups soaked. I saok them over night in a bowl covered with water, rinse really well , place them for up to 2 days into a sproutgrower (http://www.sproutgrowers.com/) or colander until the tail is about the size of the buckwheat. We eat one part fresh as cereals or in a salad and dehydrate the other part plain, or with cocoa and maple syrup/agave.
Ingredients:
320 g / 2 cups sprouted buckwheat groats
100 g maple syrup
1 Tbl. raw cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. maca powder
Method:
Place the sprouted buckwheat groats in the TMX bowl and add the remaining ingredients
Blend them for 20 seconds on speed 5
Spread on one or two Teflex-lined dehydrator trays and dehydrate at 115*F for 8 hours or until the Teflex peels away
Dehydrate until complete dry for a few hours until dry and crunchy
Break into pieces and store in an airtight container or keep them in the fridge
They don't last very long in our house

Ok - looks like I will have to get the dehydrator out and get more sprouting going. Usually just mung beans, radish, alfalfa - so should expand my repertoire.
-
No excuses. You asked for work ;). Quirky posted a yummy sprouted buckwheat granola as well on her blog.
Do you have an easy grow? It makes the best sunflower sprouts and alfalfa
-
interesting, have been wanting to try sprouted stuff so will give it a try!
-
Let me know if you like it. You won't taste the typical buckwheat in this version.
-
Is it possible to make these without a dehydrator?
-
ohhh a dehydrator is on my birthday wish list... pity it's 6 months away :(
-
This looks great, Tebasile!! I must try it - I think I've got about 10 kgs of buckwheat in my freezer, so I need to use some up badly!!!
-
Yes Cathy, use the sun outside or your oven. Set to the lowest temperature and leave the door open a jar. The oven should be warm inside, not hot. You can put a fan in front of your oven to make sure it doesn't get too hot :)
@ ILB: lucky you, mine is 7 months away ;)
@ Jo: You must have a big freezer ;). I'm glad, you want to try these

I am the same. I've noticed some inexpensive ones on ebay, but am not sure about the quality. Any tips for buying a dehydrator?

Get one with lots of trays, or at least that you can buy more trays for. Make sure they're not too flimsy - my mum's are, and the trays are already breaking and she's only had it a year or two. I have an Ezidry, and I've had it for almost 10 years and it's still going - I can't change the temperature now, it's stuck on low, but it still works fine. They trays are nice and strong, and you can buy extra ones, plus the mesh sheets, and the solid sheets for roll-ups. Has a pretty good recipe book too.

Thanks Jo. I will check them out. :)

I have the excalibur with 9 trays and would buy it again: http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/

I have a fowlers vacola (5yrs) but only used a handful of times. I had such good intentions! Must try these - is it just a snack? :)
-
You can eat them as a snack, as cereals or with salad (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2292.0) instead croutons Nay-nay :)
-
Ok - Thanks - I did read that but thought you meant just the sprouted buckwheat without the cocoa - but cool! 8)
-
Made it yesterday and it's all gone today! :'( :-\ I think it's great sprinkled on top of porridge. ;)
-
Good Idea Nay-nay. I'm glad you like it :)

Hi Tebasile. Two of my friends that I swap raw recipes with have tried this recipe with the same result.
I wondered if something was missing from the recipe or it was our taste buds - since Nay-Nay's seems to have worked a treat. Both friends ended up with the same taste and texture and they are both particular about following a recipe (unlike myself). The crackers were rather dry and chalky and not pleasant at all, 'dry cardboard' was Spanner's review (though his raw recipe reviews are often harsh ;) I was inclined to agree with this one).
Any tips on what might have gone awry?
-
Hi Containergirl. I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe it was your taste buds, too much maca or your buckwheat was not rinsed good enough ???
It is correct, that they are dry, but should taste good with no aftertaste. Buckwheat can taste sometimes funny and usually I don't care about too much.I bought some raw sprouted dehydrated buckwheat at the market and prepared something for breakfast with it. I was not able to eat or serve it to my family and had to throw it out....the taste was awful.
I had some Crunchy Buckwheaties left and gave it 2 min ago to my girls, to check if they make funny faces ;). They still love it and want that I make them again.

Thanks for the tips Tebasile. I'll pass them on and use them myself when I get around to sprouting the buckwheat for the project. I know when I make my grawnola I rinse the buckwheat very well. Cheers.
