 :D :D :D No good at them either, can't remember when I last had to do one.

Getting back to a chocolate version of the frosting - are you going to give it a go.  I've been checking on the internet to see if I could find one similar to the vanilla frosting method but didn't have much luck.  This is the closest in a cooked version but it isn't the same as ours.  I'd be inclined to stick to our recipe and just add some cocoa in the first step and see how it goes.

COOKED CHOCOLATE FROSTING

1/4 c. cocoa
2 tbsp. cornstarch or flour
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. butter
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix first 3 ingredients together, then add butter, milk, and vanilla. Cook on low heat, stirring constantly, until it starts to thicken. Pour on cake and even out with a knife.

Sounds amazing. I would really like to know if it would work with gluten free flour, anyone tried it???

I am an incessant fiddler and always trying new ways!  I added a lemon to this and didnt like the result.  Today I added some rum type of essence and some shredded coconut and it is a nice change although the original is perfection! ;D

Thanks very much Sue_Purrb (and LouisaGreen) this is just delish!  Although I did think it was just begging for a bit of chocolate (err, hint see user name!)  ;D.

I added a bar of Lindt Dark Choc Orange Intense.  I was going to blitz the choccy, but just added it in with other ingredients, broken into the squares, broken againm and you ended up with nice melted lumps (if eating it warm of course).

I love it when it's on special, I stock up. Got mainly blueberry and orange intense this time. I love the change in the cake. Lateral thinking.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

It is lovely if you add 50g to a custard at the end and serve it with slightly sweetened frozen blueberries (dsefrosted of course) or tinned ones or if you can buy them fresh ones.

This is a super easy recipe and tastes wonderful - copied Maddy's (thanks Maddy) suggestion and made these into cupcakes using the vanilla frosting, it certainly is a very different frosting but really easy to pipe and so smooth. Thanks for posting Sue and Louisa  :)  :)  :)

Have had 2 bags of oranges given to me by 2 different neighbours so I had better give this one a whirl - not that it is going to help me out with my supply of oranges as it only uses 1 so I might have to do Trudy's orange muffin recipe as well and make a whole heap of juice.

Each of our citrus trees (lemon. orange and 2 different mandarines plus a lime) are laden with fruit at the moment - in a perfect world one should be able to pick all through the year  :D  :D

commenting on the creamy vanilla frosting as it doesnt have its own post and should do imo but I dont know where the original recipe came from ie someone here or was it from the steph berg site??? so velveting and smooth and yum...different for sure but delish!!  I did the first step and let it cool and put in the fridge overnight...then continued as per recipe the next morning...got too late to finish that night and didnt put in fridge for 15 mins...will be doing again  :)
