Title: help for computer illiterate person please
Post by: cookie1 on November 04, 2008, 02:43:37 am
Could some clever person help me please? I love this site as I am getting lots of very helpful hints etc, but it is driving me MAD as it is all so slow to load. At least 50% of the time I am on here is waiting.  I have nothing else running while I am on here.
Thanks in anticipation. :'(

Hi Cookie
I usually use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and don't have any problems with the site.  However, I just tried using Internet Explorer, and that was woeful....gave up waiting for it to load.  So perhaps (if you don't already) try using Firefox (if you don't have it, google it, it's free to download and reportedly safer to use than IE anyway). Hope this helps.
Pam

also with firefox you can download ad blocker and then you don't see any ads ;) makes it quicker!

Certainly is quicker with Firefox and Adblocker.  I started using Ad blocker and was amazed at the difference.  Makes for a much more enjoyable browse.

Just a word of warning - make sure you are running Firefox 3.5.5 as there are real performance problems running previously versions of 3.5.   We were on the verge of buying my OH another computer as his was performing really oddly, but then he read about Firefox problems and uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and it is a lot better now.

Yes Megan. I spoke to DD about it and I don't know what she did but things are great.
