Classic Green Smoothie
« on: June 17, 2012, 02:45:29 am »
This is a great recipe if you're new to green smoothies. Simple and delicious!

I like to make a massive jar of it and sip it throughout the morning.

2-3 ripe bananas
1 cup kale/spinach/greens
1-2 tsp spirulina
handful of mint
juice of 1 lemon
water/ice

Blitz on 9-10 for at least 30 seconds.

What a great start to the day!

It's a classic where I come from! Oh and my morning coffee is also not negotiable  ;)

I'm yet to use maca powder, I know it's meant to give you a bit of a kick in more ways than one!

could not get used to Maca powder no matter what I did (shuddering as I type  :o :o) so my darling DH bought a capsule maker and empty capsules and made capsules up to use up the powder. No I just buy it in tablet form lol.

IT IS DISGUSTING!!!! taste and smell  :-X

I'm a big advocate for green smoothies for breakfast, it's rare I miss one on work days but I do sometimes give them a miss on the weekend. I'm a bit lazy so tend to stick with the same ingredients using lots of kale and spinach with some parsley or celery tops thrown in (at least 70% greens), an apple, one orange (skin removed), a handful of frozen blueberries, a couple of spoons of mixed chia seeds, linseeds, almonds and sunflower seeds, all mixed with a few ice cubes and a large glass of water. This makes about 1ltr. This has been my regular breakfast for about 6 months and I feel so much better for drinking it. I give a small glass to DH and drink the rest while I'm getting ready for work and sometimes take the remainder to drink during the day. The kale at the moment is more stalks than leaves so it's very thick but I just drink it without even thinking of it anymore.

heres some more green smoothies. I also enjoy the Chocolate Smoothie to have some days, and I add a big dollop of natural yoghurt otherwise I find it too watery.

Mine is often thick so i add water.. Today was yum.. I added banana, almonds, raw cacao, chia seeds and a few craisins for sweetness.. Was quite nice..
