Title: Kefir, ( or Yoghurt ) Bircher Museli.
Post by: achookwoman on November 09, 2015, 04:19:04 am
Love this as it is nice as is , but you can add extra fruit or / and seeds. I have added Chia seeds to the basic recipe for an extra Omega 3 kick.
Ingredients
Rolled oats 100g
Kefir made with lo Fat milk, 250g
1 Apple,  quartered, cored, wash but leave skin on.
Chia seeds, 14 g.

Method
Place all in TMX bowl and mix 30 seconds, speed 4.
Store in Fridge.

Notes.
This makes just under 2 cups, with 1 serve 1/2 a cup.
1/2 cup serve is approximately 235 calories.
Store in fridge for up to 4 days.
Can sweeten, but I have not found this necessary.

Delicious Chookie. I'm sure you noticed that I had Bircher every morning at FF.

Yes Cookie, so did I. Plus too much other stuff.
This does set up fairly firm but can be thinned with a little milk, Kefir or Youghurt.

Judy the bowl is actually a sugar bowl from my best dinner set. I have packed so much that we have only the necessary living stuff around. Haven't packed the dinner set as will want to transport it myself.

I had 1/2 cup serve of this for breakfast, with strawberries.  I had to add a tablespoon of Kefir to soften the mix.  What is interesting is that I didn't need a biscuit with my morning coffee.

No biscuit is a very good sign of how low the GI must be. I should investigate kefir I think.

Cookie, I would recommend a Mad Milly kit.  I gave myself one for Xmas a couple of years ago. It has a little container that floats on top with the Kefir grains.  There are different methods. Some mix the grains directly in with the milk. You have to strain out the grains to use again.  It is quite like making sour dough,  but you must keep them apart as you can get cross contamination.
