Just thought I'd give a heads up that a massive update is being released later today which will bring some massive UI changes to all of the default apps (including icons) and will herald in a swathe of updates for other apps as they update to take a similar clean look.

I've been running it for 3 months now on my phone and iPad and overall its a nice upgrade, though slightly sluggish on an iPhone 4. There are still a few rough edges on it and I don't like all of the changes (I prefer some of the older icons and app looks) but I think a number of devs will draw a line in the sand soon and say they are only supporting iOS 7 and upwards rather than iOS 6 and upwards. Particularly with Apple quietly turning on a new feature which means that if you go to download an app that isn't compatible with your current OS or hardware, it will offer you the last compatible version.
I should add that my wife doesn't like the new look though she has kind of got used to it.

I am having no problem downloading the updates today. Working on number 5 of six devices. The Mac was the quickest. The phones second and the iPads the longest.
You will find the new operating system colourful and challenging but fun. Some reading will be required.

There is no hurry to do it now . If you wait a few days it won't take so long everyone. It will take a bit of time after downloading to re set every bl**dy thing and every bl**dy thing does need resetting.
Judy it does not apply to you as you have the iPad one .
I do like the fresh look of it and lots of new ringtones to play with.
Of course every app will need updating . Cyber space is going nuts. The clouds will be weeping.

I haven't been taking any notice of this thread but when I did read it, it totally confused me. If it is for iPads too Gert then why does it not affect me too please? I haven't clicked on any links.

Yes it is a new operating system for all apple products including Macs , phones! iPads! and iPods.
The iPad one is not upgrade able so you are safe from the trauma Judy.

Not quite as Gert said. :)
There is a new OS for Macs coming but that isn't till next month (it's called 10.9 Mavericks). There is a minor update to the existing version available now (released the other week, 10.8.5).
iOS 7, the new OS for iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches is only available for "newer" devices.
iPad 2-4
iPad Mini
iPhone 4,4S, 5 and the new 5c & 5s
iPod Touch 5th+ (IIRC)
Basically the iPhone, iphone 3, iPhone 3GS & iPad are not powerful enough (nor have enough internal memory) for the new OS. The original iPad did get some upgrades in its lifetime .

Spending this morning tweeting my devices. The new airdrop will be handy. When MF returns from her travels and updates her system on her iPad she will be able to send multiple photos instead of one at a time with the new Air Drop.
CP you will find you will have to go through all your settings and Re adjust them. Lots of new wallpaper, sounds and ringtones.

Love how it sorts my photos, and the camera button, haven't quite workout how to use the panorama setting, only tried it once. Still lots to learn.

The photo thing is great. Now you can just select first then toss them into albums. Much easier.

I haven't done mine yet. I looked at DD's at got scared off. I will have a good look at hers and then do mine.

It's interesting to see other people's reactions to it. I've got well used to it now after 3 months of using it.
Haven't tried FaceTime Audio yet.

I am a bit sad. No upgrade available for my ancient IPhone 3s. Am whinging very loudly to DH, but its falling on deaf ears!

I quite like it. I have a 4 and I like the 'cleanness' of the icons and the clearer keyboard. Only thing I'm not happy with is the calendar. It's not as clear as previously.

Yeah! The calendar - I thought that was just me. I took a photo using the panoramic and sent it to my DS and he said "mum :-)) that's not new" (it was to me tho ha ha). I then took a pic using all the different focus's - I've never see that before, but its probably not new either. The screen seems to have a higher definition although I'm not sure if thats an illusion due to the new layout. I like what I see so far.

CC he is right that the panaroma is not new but what is new is that before shooting a VDO you can double tap and see the wide view.. So tell him that smarty pants!
I like that you an make face time without actual face time! Just like a phone call and all free. Sometimes you just don't want to e seen eh.
I also like the infinite folders which will neaten up the look and spotlight accessible to search without opening an app or page.

I took the plunge and updated ipad and iphone. Not sure I really like the new IOS, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Havnt read the whole thread but I instant;y regretted downloading the new Ios to both ipad and iphone, i just dont like the look/feel of it!!

Just finished updating my phone and ipad. Going to take some time to get used to the new look.

I haven't updated my iPad yet and as my phone is a company phone we need to wait for clearance from them before updating (aparently there is a security issue with the new version). After looking at it on the kids phones I'm not sure I will bother just yet although it means we now can't synch Evernote between all our devices - back to a pen and paper shopping list for now :-[

I updated mine on Sun & I love it now. When I first got it I didn't like it, but after 1 hour I had to say that I loved it!!! :)

Updated the iPad yesterday, now the computer won't recognise the iPad in iTunes. Also lost the ability to select photo size on tapatalk. Got to get use to it now, I think the layout on somethings was better on the old system.

Must agree with you, Marie! Do NOT like the "new and improved" Tapatalk.... Really regret having updated to it. The previous version was so much better!!

There was a recent update for iTunes prior to the iOS 7. I had to update on my PC as well as iMac before I downloaded iOS 7. Maybe that is the problem Emme.
Just when everything is sorted you have to start again but it makes life interesting and keeps the brain working.

Thanks Gert have done that update on the computer, but still does not want to co-operate so will leave it till DS comes back. He should be able to sort it out. I have wasted enough time trying. As for keeping the brain working he downloaded Lumosity for me the other day and boy does that keep you thinking :-)) Have also downloaded the ipad user guide update so will spend a bit of time this afternoon reading that and see if that helps

The flicking away apps thing android has had for a while. I wonder if they will sue apple just as Apple has in the past to Samsung for the 'pinch'.

I have upset my photos and they were in date order, and are now bunched in two weekly blocks. How do I get it back to per date. Thanks.

Is this on you ipad.? iMac? I have no idea DJ's I am hopeless organising my photos. Just deleted about 1000 from my iPad and they are still on my Mac and need sorting. I was thinking about doing some tutorials on you tube but I guess you can't do that. Maybe PM Tarsis as he seems to know this stuff.

Gert, did you have any problems loading photos onto the forum to start with. I tried to load one today and got the message forum has disabled attachment upload service, whatever that means. Stupid thing. ??? I get one problem sorted and up comes another. :-))

Sure you can. It has a lot of good features but just looks a bit different. Use your updated free iPad tips and tricks app to read all about it.

I do not load photos on the forum. If there is a problem there then it is for MM's server to fix. I only use Tapatalk which loads them easily from my photo stream or photos.

Yes the new Tapatalk, I may delete it and start again. The version I had I could re-size photos for the forum but this one won't even post them at all.

I don't really like the new IOS7, much prefer things the way they were. I went to update to IOS7.02 recently, and iTunes reset my iPhone. I had to download IOS 7 again and reinstall. It took 4 downloads to get it right; it would stop when nearly finished and abandon the download. I had to upgrade my internet data allowance because each download was almost a Gb!
I had no phone for three days.
Really, seriously peeved with iTunes and upgrades.
