Judy I have some beetroots in the fridge calling me, I know just the recipe to make!
-
That's good to hear Bonsai. I'd made a list of beetroot recipes from a lot of my books and now I can't put my hands on it.
-
That's where Eat Your Books comes in handy
-
I wasn't going to bed until I found it - all good now.
-
I wasn't going to bed until I found it - all good now.
LOL
-
Does it have to be an original recipe or can it be an existing recipe (I missed the 'rules' with the earlier challenges)?
-
I love mushrooms, cp doesnt but I will do a mushroom dish this week. :)
-
It can be any recipe Marina, it's always nice to have new recipes with photos but I'm not getting too strict with this challenge. Bumping an existing recipe is always useful.
-
I've been asked if there is a time frame with this challenge. Let's just play it by ear, if people are still cooking with either or both ingredients I can't see why it can't go on for 1-2 weeks. If you post your intention to join in, we will know when to move on.
-
I have a few recioes that I have chosen that I have not made before. 1 st will be thursdays dinner as I dont have a world cup dinner that night :) thursday is also veg delivery day :)
all organized for thursday, roasted cauliflower and mushroom quinoa salad.
-
I'm not sure how this challenge works but I'm enjoying the beetroot, pear and feta salad I made from QFITT. I am trying to make more of an effort to include beetroot in my meals this year. I need to use more mushrooms too especially since they are great for the immune system.
-
My favourite beetroot recipe is from In The Mix by Danni Valent, it is her Beetroot, Pomegranate and Pistachio salad – even DH who is wary of “unusual” salads likes this one!
-
Judy that looks delicious and I have all the ingredients at home!
-
I have quite a few favourite beet root dishes. Tenina's Beetroot salad, Dani V's Beetroot salad, the EDC Beetroot salad. I also make a mean vegie soup that I put Beetroot into. I like Beetroot and Chocolate Cake. However I have decided I am going to try something new. I love Beetroot Dips too. I did see a frittata that may be nice.
Great ingredient/s Judy.
-
Thanks kyton, I should have thrown my first butter sauce attempt out and tried a fresh batch but I just wanted to taste the ravioli.
It's nice to find something different Cookie, my next beetroot dish will be a forum recipe but no-one seems to have tried it yet ;)
-
Thanks for your recipe, Judy. I've just started using wonton wrappers for a couple of things, but never thought to steam them :-[ :-[, that opens up a whole new world of ideas!
-
Judy looks good, I might try them with another filling, we dont eat beetroot here at home.
Marina, I always steam won tons & dumplings etc :)
-
Marina, I always steam won tons & dumplings etc :)
I know that this is common, it is now obvious to me that I just needed something to click in that vacuum in my head for me to realise that I could do that too!
-
Made this last night - Chocolate & Beetroot Cream (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1703.0) recipe posted way back in 2009 by one of our ex-moderators Thermomixer. No-one seems to have tried it and I've had my eye on it for years :-))
I used the 140g cooked beetroot I had over from my previous recipe here for the challenge so was able to do 1/3 of this recipe just for myself. Because Thermomixer used raw beetroot I just blitzed the cooked beetroot, added the orange juice and heated it until it reached 90o then followed the recipe from there. It firmed up slightly overnight in the fridge and is delicious.
-
Judy, this is one of the wonderful outcomes of a challenge like this. There are so many gems hidden in the forum - and TMXer's contributions are among some of the best! Thanks for bumping it up!! :-*
-
My pleasure entirely GF, I finally got to taste one of Thermomixers' out of the box creations ;D
-
What an usual recipe Judy. Looks nice though. ;D
-
Real pest being away and not cooking. Would like to enjoy this ? I have posted 3 recipes for mushrooms over recent years. One is crumbed mushrooms in Parmesan with a garlic mayo. Borrowed from Rodney Dunn. Another that I think that Michele and DH enjoyed. Another Asian method soaked in soy sauce and ginger which we often have at Xmas. I will find them and post.
-
OMG how have a I missed this? You are way ahead of me. I gotta go shopping and think of something!!
Gert
-
Just had first feed of Coffin Bay Oysters and now sitting up in bed and posting recipes. Heaven.
Parmesan Crumbed Mushrooms (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3340.0)
-
Chinese Mushrooms (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10654.0)
-
Raw Mushrooms with Ginger and Garlic sauce. (http://achookwoman.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/raw-mushrooms-with-fresh-ginger-and.html)
-
Judy you are indeed busy with this challenge. I am shopping tomorrow.
-
Some fantastic recipes :)
-
I found a recipe for Beetroot Caviar on the internet so will give this a try this afternoon. All the ingredients are on the bench ready to go. :)
-
Didn't go shopping this morning as usual as I had my last visit to the dentist for my crown. However I called in for some food for the challenge on the way home.
I'm ready to go.
-
Mmm, looks interesting Cookie.
-
I hope they taste good. I'll probably do them over today, tomorrow and Friday.
-
Yum Judy. I love that recipe. Cookie this is intriguing.
I could not find any decent mushrooms today but I did get a big beet. Need to find some time to hunt down a recipe.
Love that recipe chookie.
Gert
-
Yet another gorgeous sounding recipe, Judy. Definitely going to try a vegan version of this one.
-
Would you believed I have changed my mind already. :D I have some Beetroot in the AF roasting so I can make a purée. This is fun.
Judy the potato and mushroom looks tasty.
-
This morning when I grabbed a bunch of Beetroot I grabbed some that were from Hatters, an Australian company. I have just roasted them and wow! I didn't realise they weren't plain ones. Now I have to resist eating them while they are warm. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/25/amu9ajaq.jpg)
-
They look good Margaret. Can you give a link to the recipe please.
-
I just realised I have participated in this challenge :)
Monday night I made chicken, mushroom & bacon parcels from The Road to Loving My Thermomix website and they were very tasty. I'm not a mushroom lover so the surprising thing is that I loved them mushrooms and all.
-
Ooops Judy, sorry about that :-[
I still haven't worked out how to link things yet but here is where the recipe came from
http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/582407
-
everything is looking good ;D
kmw would love your recipe :) are you able to link?
-
Ok wrong link :) they are the instructions on inserting a link...
Second try:
Chicken, Mushrooms & Bacon Parcels (http://www.trtlmt.com.au/chicken-mushroom-and-bacon-parcels/)
-
Thanks for the links girls.
I never knew there was anything other than a dark beetroot Cookie, do they taste different?
-
That was a great idea for the challenge Cookie. Thanks for the instructions too. Did you take a photo of your cut loaf?
-
Judy you are quick. I was just on tapatalk doing the photos. Here they are.
-
Sorry Cookie, impatient wasn't I LOL. It looks a nice crispy loaf.
Did DH try the carpaccio? I don't go out to my herb garden after dark either.
-
Great bread cookie.
All colours.
Gert
-
Oh wow Gert. They put mine to shame. No DH didn't try the carpaccio.
-
Is that your collection for the challenge Gert? Love the different colours.
-
Not mine. I have one lonely 400 gm beet. Won't be able to do anything until Friday I think.
Gert
-
Ok just been reading instructions and hopefully this link works ...
Chicken. mushrooms & bacon parcels (http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/Basenjibabe91/Screenshot2011-12-12at22243PM.png)

Gert
-
That looks totally spectacular Gert. Dying to see the finished loaf.
-
Me too. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/26/qu8udumu.jpg)
Gert
-
I was going to put this into a hot pot with lid but me thinks it is too small now so it is going in as is with a pan of water under it.
Gert
-
Good grief it has grown some more. Going in now.
-
Finished!
Have to wait until it cools.
Gert
-
Oh so beautiful.
On to the mushrooms!
Gert
-
I love it Gert. It matches your Helene spatula.
-
It is really delicious.
Love those spatulas.
Gert
-
Sensational Gert 8) What a wonderful colour ;) ;D
-
What an amazing loaf - the finished, uncut, loaf looks like it is on fire internally, it positively glows! How does it taste?
-
Gorgeous loaf Gert and what a crumb!
-
Fantastic bread Gert :)
-
That's what you call winging it Gert, well done.
-
That is all thanks to chookie and cookie who gave me enough confidence to bake bread.
Gert
-
It sounds and looks nice ES, never heard of smoked garlic before.
-
That is all thanks to chookie and cookie who gave me enough confidence to bake bread.
Gert
This has got to be one of the best things about this forum . I'd never even attempted making bread or a lot of other things even after getting a TMX.... It's all been due to the generous and spirited encouragement here :)
-
OMG CC fantastic food. That soup looks great and the mushroom wellies to die for. I was thinking along those lines but now I can't compete!
Re think happening here after that and Emerald Sue's wonderful pasta.
Oh dear. Wot to,do?
Gert
-
Did you serve the soup cold CC?
Gert
-
What wonderful ideas you all have come up with. Great job all of you!!!
-
Great recipes Denise.
I fixed your link, it wasn't working ;) :-*
-
YUM, CC, will be trying the mushroom recipe :)
-
CC love your mushroom Wellington it's on
My list to make. You have all inspired me to join in I'm going to make a tandoori mushroom curry.
-
They certainly look interesting, Katie! Everyone is certainly getting very adventurous with this challenge. That's what I like about this forum, it gives you the inspiration to experiment.
-
Katie's pancakes were lovely, just call them strawberry flavoured if you have non-beetroot lovers in your house. I'd be surprised if they'd pick a beetroot flavour.
-
Mich . . this is the challenge you were looking for, I think ,.
-
You amazing ladies. there are so many new recipes here that I can't wait to try them. I'm almost tempted to go out for mushrooms, I wont though and will get some tomorrow.
Katie, how clever. Beetroot pancakes. ES what a clever cookie you are. That food looks amazing.
Wonderful, inventive forum people. Masterchef has nothing on us. ;D ;D
-
Did you serve the soup cold CC?
Gert
I served the soup hot Gert ( DH hates cold soup :-)))
I fixed your link, it wasn't working ;) :-*
Thanks Judy :-*
-
Haven't been on the forum for a few days. GF and Obbie pointed me in the right direction. Such inspiration here, amazing recipes.
Mushroom, spinach and cheese pinwheels.
-
Look what happens when you turn your back Michele. Love your pinwheels.
-
They look lovely Mich.
-
Great pinwheels. Love the pancakes. Talk about hiding veg eh?
Gert
-
It's just wonderful the recipes that are surfacing with this challenge.
Great cooking Katie and Michele.
-
Pinwheels. What another brilliant idea.
This is the vegie soup I made using a Beetroot as part of the veggies. I used Italian soup mix in it and cooked it in the HMP, but cooked it too long so it became very thick. It still tasted nice though.
-
Can soup be too thick Cookie, it looks good to me.
-
No, I agree. Soup can never be too thick. ;D ;D
-
Gorgeous soup. Nope cannot be too thick.
Gert
-
Not feeling particularly A1 today so cooking may be on the backburner until all settles down :-)) - really enjoying seeing what everyone else has contributed!! I've earmarked some beetroot recipes that I'm keen to try "in the fullness of time" (love that old expression!) but came across this one this morning . . . a beetroot curry. I think I even have all the ingredients except for one or two of the spices.
http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/lifestyle/recipes/514608/beetroot-curry-with-coriander-chutney.html
-
I've come into this post today. It's inspired me to head to the farmers market and find me some beautiful produce and maybe some smoked garlic (my TMX rep sources them for the markets). I love mushies buy husband does not.
-
Sorry GF you are not feeling A1.
Thermesa would love to find some smoked garlic up here.
Gert
-
Sorry GF you are not feeling A1.
Gert
Thanks, Gert.. To coin a phrase, "she'll be right, mate... " in a day or so (I hope!) ;D
-
The challenge will go on for another week girls, longer I guess if people want it to. Nice to see so many have joined in, what a great variety of recipes we've added to the forum.
-
I'm sorry I can't join in. DH has been away for work for over two weeks now. Work is flat out and I'm working full time. Hoping like crazy that we get to go on holidays still. :/
But this is a lovely mushroom meal we enjoyed some time ago. http://itsnotartitsdinner.wordpress.com/tag/prepare-pearl-barley/
-
Great soup Cookie. Hope you are feeling better soon GF.
The most terrific recipes have emerged from this challenge. Glad it is going for another week - time to get a beetroot recipe done. :D
-
DD joined in the challenge today. She made some Beetroot Brownies. I'm going to have one with my coffee tonight. Ill post a photo and the link to the recipe then.
-
Gert, what a sunday morning breaky, yum.
-
Who'd go out for breakfast when you could go to Gerts. It looks great Gert.
-
Think what you would pay for that Judy!
Gert
-
I never like playing for breakfast Gert, in fact I very rarely have - the Adelaide forumfest was the first time I think I have eaten in the dining room and that was because I was there with all you lovely ladies. If I was on my own or with DH, I used to take those little boxes of cereal and LL milk and we'd do our own thing. I prefer having a cooked lunch than a big breakfast.
-
wow gert :)
I am on the plane ;D
-
Looks great Gert!
My DH and I love going out for breakfast on Sunday.
-
OMG . . Chez Gert!! Taking notes, . . . and did you say . . AF?? :-)) ;D
Can almost taste it from here . . . brilliant! :-*
-
The start of my mushroom challenge.
MUSHROOM AND SPINACH LASAGNA ROLL UPS IN A CREAMY GORGONZOLA SAUCE
1st stage make ricotta, from Dani Valent In the Mix 2. I need 500g ricotta so using 2 thermos, of course you can 1/2 the recipe it has 6 serves or just buy the ricotta. Helenes blog super kitchen machines has a ricotta recipe too.
2nd step pasta, EDC pasta dough.
-
Gee Hally your cooking mojo is well and truly back! Can you send some my way please. ;D
-
Yes 2 things got me back into, cooking.
The world cup cooking, loving food from south america. Colombian, costan rican, brazilian all, fantastic food :) :P
Plus i ordered more meat, supplies were low :)
-
Going into the oven
-
Last night I made a Tandoori Mushroom and Paneer curry served with some homemade naan bread. It was delicious, everyone enjoyed it. I changed the recipe to suit us. I bought brown mushrooms for this recipe, never used them before.
Thanks for suggesting this challenge, lost my cooking mojo there for awhile thus has helped me lots. Love everyone's recipes.
-
Jen that looks amazing ;D
where did you get your curry bowls from I can't find any, even tried the mustafa centre in Singapore.
-
Yummo to those dishes.
It is interesting she you start researching mushrooms. We get well and truly ripped off. Portabella mushrooms are just older bigger wiser button mushrooms but sometime $2.00 more a kilo. Just another Crimini or Italian. or whatever they want to call them to charge more.
I wish I had a variety up her as some of the exotic have a far different flavour. I love mushrooms.
Good challenge.
Gert
-
Yum Hally & Jen!
I have 2 root vegetable cakes going in the oven now - made with beetroot, sweet potato & carrot.
If they work I'll post the recipe.
-
Nice to see you all busy with challenge recipes this weekend. Great cooking girls. Loving what I'm seeing and the effort you are all going to.
-
Jeninwa, Hally and Katie lovely looking food. Some new recipes for me to try. I think we may have to start having 4 meals a day here. ;)
-

i have done a bit of cooking in the last few days, loads of food everywhere, it doesnt take lon to get a stockpile :)
looking forward to jeinwas recipe & katiejs.
:)
-
These look delicious. I've stocked up on mushrooms at the market today, and have chosen my next recipe to try this week. :)
-
Has anyone cooked with pine mushrooms? I often see them at the farmer's market but never know what to do with them. They look as though they would be a very 'robust'
vegetable fungus, maybe with a very strong taste.
-
Jen that looks amazing ;D

Hally I bought it at kitchen warehouse, just had a look online and they have them still. Hope the link works.

Katie looking good.
Gert
-
What fantastic cooking girls. It all looks so delicious and colourful. ;D
-
I've never heard of pine mushrooms either.
Those bows look great, if I had any room in my kitchen I'd buy some. But no room!
-
We've tasted the beetroot, sweet potato & carrot cake and my DH has declared it delicious!
He said it's his new favourite cake. I'll post the recipe when I have time.
-
I find IGA pease street has a good variety of mushrooms Gert. However I've never really looked at Coles or woolworths so can't compare.
Yum all!
-
Thanks for the pine mushroom reference, Gert. I might have a chat to the stall holder next time I see them on sale.
Katie, that cake really looks appetising. I will look forward to the recipe.
-
INAID, That IGA is good. Its is where I Go in Cairns, when we take M&D down.
Great challenge, love the photos too
-

Yes they do. They have a totally different range of a few things and the meat is not bad either.
Gert
-
Great cake Katie. :D
-
Brownies look wonderful Cookie. Your DD did a great job.
How I wish I could cook using nuts, my DH has a nut allergy and it's so annoying!
-
These would taste ok without the nuts Katie. Although it does add to them.
-
Wow great cooking, great challenge. I'm jot joining in...just yet, but am enjoying the read. You are all such clever cooks.
-
I love the tinge beetroot gives cakes and desserts, thank DD for joining in the challenge Cookie.
-
Caramelised onion, beetroot, fetta and walnut tart.
-
Oh Lordy that looks good.
-
Nice Michele, I love tarts. I pulled a tart recipe from a book in a waiting room today for a broccoli and beetroot tart which looked nice too. I hope to get that one in before the current challenge ends.
-
Very nice Michele. 8)
It's amazing how versatile the humble Beetroot has become ;D
-
Nice Michele, I love tarts. I pulled a tart recipe from a book in a waiting room today for a broccoli and beetroot tart which looked nice too. I hope to get that one in before the current challenge ends.
That's a bit naughty Judy ;D ;D
-
Mum's doctor kept us waiting 1/2 hour Michele, that's a bit naughty too. The more time we're waiting, the bigger the chance I'll find a recipe I like. Others had removed recipes before me so I didn't feel a bit guilty ;D
-
Every now and then, you need to take a walk on the wild side. :D
-
Delicious looking tart Mich.
-
That looks divine Julie.
-
How gorgeous Julie, I hope this means you've got your mojo back. :-* :-*
-
Thanks Mcmich and Judy. :D
Sadly not yet Judy, this was from when I made it a while ago but thought I'd share.
I'm full of a cold at the mo and just getting by with bits and bobs from the freezer for DH - all I feel like is cereal or toast :-))
-
That's no good Julie, get well soon. I hope it's not affecting your morning walk.
-
Thanks Judy. Haven't been on my morning walk since last Thursday which I'm really missing. Hopefully will be back to it by Monday. :)
-
Get well soon JulieO. The dolphins swimming round will be missing you.
The tart looks delicious. I love Beetroot and goats cheese.
-
Get better soon Julie :-* :-*
-
Get better JulieO, colds, flu etc make you miserable.
-
Thankyou all for your well wishes, it's just a time thing now. Hopefully not too much longer and I'll be back to being dangerous! ;D
-
fantastic Julie, get better soon too
-
Thanks obbie. :D
-
Thanks for posting the recipe, Katie - very keen to try this. :D
-
Thanks Katie. It will be made here too.
-
Interesting. Katiej. Was it good?
Gert
-
Got a new challenge JD?
Gert
-
CC has the next one planned so sit tight Gert. ;D
-
Ooooooooo wonder what it is..
Gert
-
Yes the cake was lovely Gert. DH declared it the nicest cake I've ever made.
Looking forward to the next challenge.
-
All the recipes made have now been placed in the appropriate places. You will find links to these recipes in the original posting.
I have no recipe for Michele's pinwheels or the Caramelised onion, beetroot, feta & walnut tart or jeninwa's Tandoori Mushroom & Paneer Curry. If they like to provide the recipe, I can do the links.
I will continue to add any latecomers' recipes to the list.
-
This challenge has now finished. CC has posted your next challenge here. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=15537.0)
I have added a freeform vegetable tart using beetroot to the list on Page 1 - it was on my list to do for this challenge but needed to go to the shops first.
