I have often seen references on here to Nuts and Bolts, but have neither tried nor made it, but this year I think I will give it a go for small gifts to neighbouring businesses who have supported us this year with great service. What is everyone's favourite recipe?
-
I use Cookies recipe but add Aldi sugar coated macadamia nuts. Or even lots of macadamia nuts.

In lieu of the peanuts Chookie?
-
Yum. I make a batch 2 or 3 times a year.
-
Thanks for the link Chookie. I am looking forward to trying them.
-
Marina, try to buy roasted mixed nuts.
-
I bought the soup mixes today - the chicken one was labelled " Cream of ..." so I hope it will be OK. I am working on the assumption that the soup has never seen a chicken, but the "chicken" in the list of ingredients comprises chemicals mixed to taste like chicken; I am not sure what the "Cream" part is but hopefully it will work! It is actually quite hard to find powdered soup mixes these days, they are all in tins or pre-made in plastic 'pouches'.
Thanks for the roast nuts suggestion, Chookie, roasted nuts always taste that much better so I will definitely got for them.
I will probably make these next week in plenty of time to hand them out to the various recipients.

That’s the right packet Marina, Cream of Chicken Soup.
-
We don’t have nutri grain in the Uk, can anyone recommend an alternative? Thanks v much x
-
DJ, if you go to the original Mrs Masons Nuts nuts and Bolts recipe on the forum there is a bit of discussion about the UK equivalent of Nutri Grain - I think this is the link posted by Chookie: https://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10974.0
-
I always use a packet of mixed roasted nuts too. It's much easier.
-
Thanks cuilidh
Too funny I found myself asking sales question in 2012!
Unfortunately Start, the Uk equivalent was discontinued in 2018, so I’m stuck unless cheerios work. They’re less appealing, for sure.
Thanks anyway.
I loved nutrigrain when I was in Australia in ‘82.

These are not sweet but what about pretzels? Only a suggestion as I cannot have powdered soup as I’m allergic to the msg in them . But I’m sure I’ve seen pretzels in this before .
-
I have seen one version that has mini pretzels in it, K Atie, and I am thinking I might incorporate some into my mix.
-
What about pop corn?
I heat the oil in TMX with the soup powder and curry.
-
Now, there's an interesting idea, Chookie, I would never have thought of that. Do you pop the corn in the TMX as well? I'm thinking it would have to be a very small quantity.
-
I’ve never made popcorn as I don’t like it, but others do.
-
Quite a few friends and colleagues have now asked for the recipe for Nuts and Bolts and some of my neighbours have hinted - none too subtly - that if I should make some more, please to remember them.
Anyway, I decided I would probably have to make another batch for our Xmas visitors and had a terrible time finding the two soup mixes. I eventually found the French Onion one, but the chicken was a challenge. I went to the two biggest supermarkets near us and neither of them had it. In the end I tracked some down at our IGA in Castlemaine so I will stock up with a few whilst I can. If anyone here is having trouble sourcing the chicken soup mix, let me know and I will be happy to grab a couple for you.
-
Marina, I always buy several packets of both soup mixes when I see them. The supermarkets hide them on the bottom shelves. I’ve made 3 lots of nuts and bolts this year.
-
Everyone must be making nuts & bolts Marina if you had that much trouble finding some at this time of the year. Mind you, the weather has been crazy and I’ve been having quite a soup meals these past couple of weeks.

That is exactly where I found them, Chookie.
-
I’ve found the staff in the supermarkets a lot more helpful of late.

I agree with that, Chookie - it's those blessed self serve tills that I hate and loathe. Whenever I am lucky enough to get a person serving me I always make it obvious that I much prefer the personal communication and ask that they pass on the comment to their boss.
-
I made these yesterday. I wasn't able to find chicken soup mix so bought the spring vegetable mix and they turned out alright.
-
I'll have to remember that as I sometimes have trouble finding it.
