Pink Grapefruit Marmalade?
« on: February 03, 2012, 11:32:37 pm »
My DH recently bought a couple of pink grapefruit by mistake.  He cannot eat them and I’m not too fond of them.  Are there any suggestions of what I can make using them? … pink grapefruit marmalade ... pink grapefruit anything?

Thanks

Marina, use my L emon and carrot Marmalade recipe and replace the lemons with the grapefruit.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chookie, I'll try that this weekend and see how it goes.

Marina, Judy has used this recipe and substituted oranges,  with success.

I made this last night.  I'm not a marmalade eater, I've got to admit, but I think this must have turned out well because it tastes like a lovely mild marmalade!  Very orange in colour but a lovely consistency.  Easy ingredients and easy to follow recipe, I just sat back and caught up on some reading whilst it cooked.

I'll give some to my friends and neighbours and get their feed-back.

Thanks for giving me the idea, Chookie.

Marina ,  glad it turned our OK.  Can be used in cakes and Hot X Buns,  instead of peel.

Yes, you're right, Chookie, it would be very tasty in those I also read somewhere that you can used it as a sauce with desserts - sadly, can't remember which it was.

I think that would be steamed puds.

I think there is a big difference between bought marmalade and home made Marina. I've never been a lover of bought marmalade but quite enjoy Chookie's recipe whenever I have it on toast. You can also use marmalade in marinades - check out some of the recipes here.

I would never have thought of using marmalade as a marinade - wonder how it would go marinating tofu?  Unfortunately I will never find out as DH cannot eat grapefruit for the same reason as you!

I lined all my jars of marmalade up on the shelf in my larder yesterday afternoon and they look lovely - glowing orange next to the dark worcestershire sauce!  However, I will be giving my jars of marmalade away (I'm thinking of naming it Marina's Mystery Marmalade!).

Great name. I'm afraid I am not a marmalade lover nor is DH. DD ate the last lot I made and requested that I don't make anymore for a while.

That was very subtly put by DD, Cookie.  The marmalade was one of those fun things we all tend to make from time to time .... just because we can!

These comments prompted me to have marmalade on my toast this morning instead of vegemite  :-))

It's very hard dieting Chookie as you crave all the foods you shouldn't have :'( Carrot and celery sticks just aren't the same as a bar of chocolate :D :D
