Hello again.
Next question...... There is so much knowledge in here, it is wonderful.
For my iPad best recipe app. I think someone mentioned paprika?
I need to start putting them in some sort of order.....
Thanks so much in advance
DJ

Yes paprika is one that quiet a few use. I actually use one called "recipe book", I find this really great for getting recipes straight from the forum or any other web site. :)
I think there are quiet a few out there.
Are you using tapatalk app for your iPad ?
-
Hi droverjess, I use paprika and it works really well for me. I can highly recommend it.
I know some others in here swear by evernote but I haven't really been able work that one out. I'm sure someone will pop in later tonight who can fill you in.
I love having my recipes stored electronically, really helps keep the paper clutter in the kitchen to a minimum!
-
I use Paprika and love it.
-
I'm another paprika user, both on my iPad and my macbook. If I'm working on my normal laptop and want to get a recipe into paprika I either use the widget that is available to copy it straight from a web page or type it into big oven and then use the widget to get it in.
-
Showing ignorance what is tapatalk... I think Gert already mentioned it.
I only have iPad in house and iPhone. Have old windows pc in outside office. So less likely to link up. Expect one day will replace pc with mac but that is years away.
Will have to look online atbthese things later. Must go feed the orphan lambs, will be back later.
-
Tapatalk is an app you can use to go onto forums (like the forum thermomix) it's easy to be able to post photos, chat and post etc,
There are a few members now using tapatalk.
-
Hi Mandi,
How do you get tapatalk, do you down load it from the internet or you have to buy the app? Thanks.
-
It's a free app for iPhones and iPads (or any i device) download from the app store. :)
Hope that makes sense :)
-
Is the paprika app really $20? It seems expensive for an app of its kind, but then I haven't looked at any other recipe organising apps before so that could be a standard price..?
-
Wow. I didn't know it was that much. Is there a free version to try?
A lot of people swear by it so it must be good.
I can't remember what I paid for my recipe book app (probably only 0.99 cent or there about)
I like having all my recipes in the same format for printing. I find it much easier to follow :)
-
Well that's how much it was when I looked it up on my macbook, but then I just looked it up on my iPhone and it was only $5.49, so now I'm not sure how much it would be for an iPad.
-
Thanks dede.
-
Bubbles it should be the same price for iPhone or iPad :)
-
Have done a bit of research re apps.
Both are buy only apps tapatalk comes in 2 modes
For forum and HD. First is £1.99, second £2.99.
I have never yet paid for an app. Is tapatalk worth it?
I think I will get paprika though for recipes it is £2.99, as I m getting lost in the forum with all these marvellous recipes! A first to buy an app!
Night all, bath time calling.
-
Tapatalk was free when I first downloaded it on my iPhone. I did end up buying the tapatalk HD for my iPad and use it all the time. But you can still easily go on the forum via your Internet browser. :)
-
Both apps are certainly worth buying. I have an iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro, and I have Paprika on all devices. It's great because the recipes synchronize across all devices. It also has a meal planner and shopping list. So I can add the recipe I want and add the items I need to my shopping list on my laptop, and they automatically synchronize to my phone which I take with me when I do the shopping. It was expensive to buy them all, the iPad app and the iPhone app were separate to purchase from memory, but I just waited until Woolworths had a 20% off iTunes cards sale.
And tapatalk is a much nicer alternative to use on the iDevices than trying to use the web page, especially on the iPhone.
ETA: I just thought I'd mention that in the iTunes store, if you're not happy with your purchase Apple will give you a refund. When you go into your purchases, click the report a problem link and follow the prompts. I've done it a few times - once because my 2 year old son tapped on an app in the Mac App Store after I'd signed in to it, so it purchased the app straight away. The credited back the $20 odd within a couple of days.
-
That's good to know, jakodai.
I can't get on with Paprika. When I paste recipes into it, they're not formated, it's just one big long line with html codes to show line breaks etc.
I'm going to try HandyCookBook that CarolineW recommended.
-
The same happened for me when using tapatalk on my iPad. I only got it yesterday for mothers day and tried to read some of the posts on here to work out what to do. I worked out if you click on open in safari (instead of copy) and then copy from there it pastes in a formatted version. Maybe someone else maybe able to suggest another alternative as I am only new at this stuff.
-
With the My Recipe Book app that I use you click on find new recipe then add the URL of the forum Thermomix (or what ever web page you want) this then takes you straight to the home page where you find the recipe your after (or brows through)
Once I find the recipe I click on custom import and high light the ingredients and add the ingredients list, the high light the directions and add the the directions list. Then your done. You can even copy the photos to add to that recipe. And edit where needed.
For me I find it nice and easy to use.
-
Thanks Twitter you have saved me so much time.
-
I've started using BigOven to get recipes into a format that Paprika can understand if it is from a website that doesn't use the correct formatting. On the BigOven "Add Recipe" page there is a link to "point-and-click import with QuickImport,"....you can then paste the recipe and identify which bits are which. Once you have saved the recipe, you can then use whatever app you like to bring up the url and save it into the app as it has all the appropriate hrecipe tags for the app to know which bit is which.
That probably didn't make a lot of sense, but it does work. I was concerned that it would be saving the recipes as public, but it does make them a private recipe (or at least it did for the few I've tried :) )
-
Just bought paprika and it can't get recipes from forum unless I toe them in. I simply cant do that, not enough hours in day?
Might try apple for a refund as it was whole point of getting it.
Am disappointed.
-
Now on phone in queue to apple to ask for refund...... And about my charger which does not work.
First they are sending me new cable to charge iPad.
Second they sent email with details as to how to contact iTunes support.
I had to use something called express highway.
See what happens and back to drawing board.
Re tapatalk is it the forum one or HD one as there is a £1 difference in price.
I have to say I am somewhat nervous of buying another app after today's failure.
Now Waiting for DH to return from dentist then we r going out.
-
I haven't figured out how to get recipes from websites on the iPhone or iPad yet, I do it on the computer and let it synchronize across. I'm sure there's a way, I just haven't had the time to do it.
Don't let 1 bad experience put you off. There are so many different apps developed by different people.
-
Thanks jakodai.
I have been refunded.
I think shall have to be old fashioned and keep wee notebook (alphabetical) with notes on how to find each recipe in forum.
Sunny morning here.
Someone coming to supper to off to peruse the forum and make a shopping list. Some thing which will keep hot as timing could be iffy as to who they come in to eat.
-
Does anyone know what the difference is between the tapatalk and tapatalk HD is?
-
Not much TP. Just more features with the HD one. I have the normal one on my iPhone and the HD one on my iPad.
-
What sort of features? I just bought the ordinary one but trying to figure out whether to get the HD one.
-
I will have a look for you shortly when I go on the iPad. :)
-
Ok. The main differences I can see are that when your reading a topic the unread topics are on one side of a split screen and the topic you have high lighted is on the other side of the screen so you can scroll trough the topic while having the other side of the screen displaying unread topics.
You can also brows the forum on the net from the tapatalk app. So of you need to search for something to add a link to a topic you can easily.
There is also a timeline section that lists all topics in order of time posted.
Other than that it's not a lot different but I prefer the HD version for ease of use.
-
Thanks dede I will think about changing.
-
Dede how does recipe book work please?
I really want something that will take recipes from this forum and put them in order without me having to type in ingredients etc.
Thanks again.
Paprika was refunded no problem.
-
This is what I do DJ
When you go into the app you click on find recipe, this then takes you to a screen where you need to add the forums web address for the first time and paste into the search box.
Once your on the forum you need to find the recipe you want.
No click on custom import (I think that's what it says)
Type in the recipe name (or copy and paste)
Then I highlight the ingredients only and click on add to ingredients list.
Then highlight the directions and click on add to directions list.
Then you can save it.
If there is a photo you can save that as well.
All the recipes are added alphabetically.
You can edit the recipe and put it in a category like breads, desserts, mains etc.
I find it nice and easy to use.
Hope that helps. :)
-
Deed do you need a pc and mouse for highlighting or will an iPad work.
Sorry to appear dim, just want to get it right this time.
Many Thanks
DJ
-
You can highlight using the iPad. You just hold your finger down on the screen at the start of what you are wanting to copy. Some options will pop up like select , select all etc or the word will be highlighted. You can either press select and drag the highlighted dots down until you have everything highlighted that you want and add to ingredients or directions from there.
Sorry my directions are not real clear, I only just got out of bed and my brain isn't working to well :D
-
I am also wanting an app to store all my recipes, so a few more silly questions:
On Paprika (which I am leaning towards at the moment), what is a "widget" and what would I need to do to be able to convert a recipe to Paprika?
Also, can you use the app on a PC, I have a lot of recipes typed into word that I would like to convert (through iTunes?)
Can you send to Apple TV?
Can you back -up the files on your PC (I am terrified one of my kids will delete by accident, and I know it is a big job...)
Thank you so much!
-
Sorry to bump, but I wondered if anyone can help answer my questions above? Most importantly, can I use on my PC too? (easier to type there than on my iPad for my hand-written recipes).
-
I have paprika on the iphone and Mac computer but I don't think you can use it on a PC yet,
-
I'm not sure either about your questions HC. Sorry
-
Paprika will import mastercook formatted files so you can use software on the pc such as living cookbook to enter recipes and export them as a mastercook file. The latest version of paprika will allow you to export recipes as an HTML file. I haven't tried importing that into living cookbook yet...I'll try it tomorrow.
I don't think there is any way to get them to an apple tv but that may change in the future if apple do implement apps on that platform (which has been rumored for a while)
There is the ability to do a manual backup in paprika which you can then access through iTunes. You can also use their cloud sync feature which lets you have the same recipes between devices. I use it between my iPad, iPhone and Mac. They are shortly releasing an android version which I will use on my kindle fire.
-
I had a refund on paprika from itunes as I couldn't take recipes from here and that was the whole point.
Maybe I am just not very good at it?
-
It's pretty fiddle to get the recipes off here with paprika. I use living cookbook on my pc or macgourmet on my Mac and then import them to paprika.
-
My pc is in an office away from home. I only have iPad at home.
-
I'm a bit of a techno geek so I have a trail of electronic devices that follow me around...unfortunately it looks like my kids are following in my footsteps. I have a electronic systems engineering degree and my son is looking at a bachelor of it/bachelor of multimedia for next year and my feral fairy is also doing very well in her i.t subject. They both have iPads, kindles , laptops etc which I am very proud of them for having actually earnt the money for (even if I'm the twit that has to drive them to work :( )
-
I don't think I'd use Paprika if it wasn't on my computer (which is a Mac, btw). I've found it too fiddly to add recipes on the iPhone or iPad. I love having the recipes, shopping list and meal plan on those devices, though.
-
So would I be better off with something else? Ideally I'd like to be able to import recipes from here and other blogs /websites, as well as add my own converted recipes. I really like the meal planning and shopping list functionality as well. I currently have a PC, the iPad and an Androind phone (but am hoping to get an iPhone soon). I am not a techno-phobe, but I am fairly clueless as to how they work.
-
Sorry to bump this, but wondering if anyone can advise the best app for recipes? Still have not done this yet, but I really need to... Too many pieces of paper floating around!
-
So far we seem to have a choice:
Paprika
Recipe Book
Living Cook Book
Handy Cook Book
I'm very interested in the feedback for each as well.
-
I'm still using My recipe book and find it great. I haven't tried any of the others so can't comment on them. :)
-
Have downloaded pepper plate but no time to try out with move etc.
-
I downloaded paprika last night as it was only $5.50. Will have a bit of a play over the weekend
-
I use Evernote. I have it on the computer and the ipad. They synchronise themselves. It's great. (and free)
-
We use evernote and sync between ipads and iphone. We've been having a few problems lately with it not syncing between the iphone and ipad properly which is messing up our shopping list. i think it might be human error on DH's part but he won't let me tell him he might be doing something wrong.
-
:D :D :D
-
I hope chookie sees this cos she has the evernote app and couldnt remember why ;D
-
Bless her cotton socks.
-
I use evernote, have it on my PC, ipad and iphone all synced. Pc in office, ipad in kitchen when cooking and iphone for shopping, so easy.
-
I have Evernote on my iPad, iPhone & my laptop. I sync them all which is fine, but I have a question. When I'm on the iPad & find a recipe to add to Evernote, I cant add it straight there. When I highlight it only comes up as copy. Can I add a recipe easily?
Thanks
-
I have only added recipes on PC, iPad is charging otm so will try later. PC is outside in office so in the winter don't go out at night, to cold.
-
I hated Evernote. I deleted it in the end as I couldn't copy and paste recipes easily from here using Tapatalk and that's why I got Evernote in the first place as I hated Paprika for that very reason.
I forgot Twitterpated's tip to copy into Safari first. I'll have to re-download both and try again. I didn't really spend too much time learning how to use Evernote. It's probably good as it does sync across all devices.
-
I just screen shot a recipe when on my phone and load the photo into Evernote
-

That's what I ended up doing, but then you can't edit it. I always edit recipes to simplify them. I mostly have my recipes collated in a folder on my PC anyway. I copy them into Word and format them to my own liking. Heaven help me if my PC fails. Every single PC I've had has crashed!
Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! Must back up to CD!! ;D
-
It worked!!! I took a screen shot & added the recipe to Evernote :) Thank you so much!!!
It would be great to be able to edit it, but I can live without it.
-
Glad to help SoBlessed, I am also happy with just collecting at this stage :)
You must back up megan! :)
-
Handy thread, I think I'm going to have to try Paprika as the app I kinda use feels like its all but been abandoned. (Neither Mac app or iPad viewer have had an update in ages).
Been debating about Tapatalk over just using Safari too. Ah if only Apple allowed trials easily.
