I picked about 250 grams of blue swimmer crab meat yesterday (from 3 crabs) and am looking for ideas. May very well just end up as simple crab and avocado wrapped with a slice of crustless bread!

Thank you very much for this.
Have been thinking of trying to re-create Taiwanese pineapple cakes and I think this will be a great place to start.

I made this today. Omitted the onion and coriander because I want to keep it in the fridge for a few days. Really impressed with the flavour and will definitely make in the future. Hoping it lasts 3-4 days to be taken for work lunch.

News about Thermomix / Re: List of Demonstrators
« on: January 22, 2014, 10:17:31 am »
Hi

If anyone knows a good demonstrator that could give a demo in Balcatta, WA would you please pm me the demonstrator's details.

A colleague is dead keen to buy one for his Mum.  I didn't purchase my thermomix in WA so don't have any contacts here.

Thanks in advance.

Patrice Newell garlic is wonderful. Lasts for a long time and you can plant out any cloves that you don't get to before they sprout. Unfortunately it can't come across to WA because of quarantine restrictions.

I have a kitchen aid. It's currently in storage but I really miss it for pasta, ice cream, meringue and banana cake.

I've always been a top loader person for the sheer convenience of being able to add things during the cycle and also not having the hassle of bending /kneeling to load and unload.

I have an asko front loader (7kg I think) and you can add items anytime during the wash cycle. Just push a button and wait for up to about 10 seconds (depending where the machine is up to in its cycle) and the door will pop open when it is ready. Very useful for stray socks.

Also have the asko heat pump condenser dryer which I think I have mentioned before. Can't speak highly enough of the dryer. 6 star energy rating and unbelievably efficient at getting sheets and towels dry. Emits absolutely no condensation and very little heat.

Condiments and Sauces / Re: My special awesome cheese sauce

I've slightly modified this recipe to make a bechamel for lasagne.
Use only 100g cheese
1/4 teaspoon of mustard (could eliminate completely)
No salt

Have done it a number of times now and had success. As with the original, it freezes really well. L

Chit Chat / Re: Best 4 slice Toaster

I also have the same as mrsb and have been very happy with it. I particularly like the fruit bread setting and the fact that it takes almost any size and shape of bread.
The 'automatic' part is a bit fun too.
If I had to buy another toaster I would buy the same one again.
I can't comment on longevity of them because I've only had it for about four months. No signs of decomposition yet though!

Chit Chat / Re: Electric Yoghurt maker question

Unless you make a lot of yoghurt $69 seems expensive.

It does, but kitchenware direct have it for $45 which didn't seem too bad.  $19 would be great but Aldi is a long way from WA. Might ask a relo to grab me one if it becomes available again.

If you like chickens this is a must watch:

Even if you don't like chickens it's still pretty good

I reckon that is a pretty good description Jamberie. I try to avoid referring to it like that because people never seem to believe me!

Do you cook it yourself? I've only ever eaten it out and have almost always enjoyed it.

For any Perth people: I highly recommend the salt and pepper crocodile at Phi Yen (cnr lake and Brisbane streets) and Lido (cnr William street and Robinson ave) in Northbridge. It is similar to salt and pepper squid but with a better texture (think firm fish/soft chicken) and gentler flavour. It doesn't taste like chicken to me, it tastes like it comes from the water. A very mild fish flavour.

I was planning on some pretzels but time beat me.

I highly recommend Alton Brown's  recipe if you haven't already tried it: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/homemade-soft-pretzels-recipe/index.html

Made them for the second time last weekend and they were a great success. There is also a YouTube video of him making pretzels which explains some of the associated science.
