Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Re: Liquid Measurements
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:14:58 am »
For small measures I tend to put the tmx bowl on digital scales. I find the 10g increments on the tmx quite frustrating.

Thanks Dastardly Den and Halex. I've gone with 100% wholemeal (because that was the only bakers flour I had to hand). Will report back when it's cooked. Currently having its first rest.

Vegetarian / Re: Mashed Potatoes - the best way ?

You could steam about 1kg of potatoes in the basket and the varoma.

I am extremely grateful for this thread. I hated the first lot of mash I did using the edc method. Since then I have always steamed potatoes in the basket before mashing and I much prefer the flavor this way.

My original hair colour is dark brown however, sadly, i am going grey. My hairdresser (who I think I'm going to sack) reckons i should start colouring my hair blonde so that the grey coming through is less noticeable. There is no way I want blonde hair. Am currently in desperate need of a re-colour. Need to find a new hairdresser that is less in love with peroxide!

For a while I was known for canapés. not making them quite as much lately but I still really enjoy it. Particularly stuffed cherry tomatoes and devils on horseback.

I am going to try a wholemeal loaf of chookie's no fuss bread using halex's method. My bread attempts so far have been so-so. I think it's largely due to the fact that I have the world's most pathetic oven. I will keep on trying though!

Postgrad diploma in public sector management.  I really like the reading and the class time but I loathe the essay writing. Not surprising really since I hated essay writing during my under grad degree. Give me exams over essays any day!

I put Nonna in my reply then deleted it because I thought it may have been Greek.

Is it yia yia for a Greek grandmother?

I had another study day today. It was a really tough day trying to write 2500 words about something that isn't very interesting.  Got up to about 2200 words so next week will hopefully just be cleaning the essay up. I'm really glad I've got a scholarship for this study. It would feel so wrong if I was actually paying to put myself through this pain!

Made butter oat biscuits from the original womens weekly book. I think they tasted better when I was 10 and mum put them in my lunchbox  :)

You can be tested for lactose intolerance (it's a breath test). Also, if you are lactose intolerant you can take lacteeze before consuming dairy products.  I have found lacteeze to be very effective. I hope you can figure it out soon!

In cold places you could perhaps you sit the starter on a heated brewing pad?

It just doesn't seem to be a very good way to sell the thermothingy - more off-putting than anything else.
