Cooking whole fish

Hi there,

have just got my Thermomix and wanting to cook a whole fish in the Veroma. Does anybody have some tips and timings.

Best way is to wrap in silicon paper with some seasoning/lemon juice/Asian spices or whatever and then position in the Varoma and let it cook.

Timing - varies with size of the beast.  It may take an hour for a bigger fish.  Probably half an hour would be OK - you can open up the parcel (carefully with steam inside!) and open the flesh to see if it is cooked.

Make sure you put enough water in the bowl - about 1.5 litres to be certain or 1 l and then top up after 30 mins.  Speed 1 with Varoma temp.

I haven't followed these recipes to the letter when cooking - they are just guides and note that the bream took longer for someone who did try it.

You can also salt bake the fish in the varoma, I have done this with 2 trouts, very good!

Thanks for that. I experimented last night with the fish, adding some lemongrass wine, garlic, fish sauce and a little bit of seasame oil in the water below. Also had some rice cooking in the thermomix at the same time. The fish was so tender and tasted very healthy

Cooked again on the Veroma tonight..... I dont think I will be using my hotplates very often now. It's quite funny when I told my boyfriend about my purchase and how much I paid I think he thougth I had gone nuts! He arrived at my home expecting to see some sort of large cooker (imagined it would be the size of a front loader). Well after he saw how easy it was to use with all its features then devoured the fish meal he went away bragging about the TM to his friends(maybe he coulD become a consultant). So now it is expected that when we have our weekends away at Philip Island, the Thermomix will be packed in the car to cook the fresh fish caught as well as providing olive and  lemon bread all weekend! It is amazing how once the Thermie is seen it action preconceptions disappear.

Good work Barbara - I love my Varoma and if it weren't for MrsT's love for brown food (grilled that is) then I would not use the hotplate
