Welcome KitchenDiva, I'm from Perth too, in the northern suburbs.

You will love food in a whole new dimension now. It's great that your son is enjoying cooking with you too.  You might get a few nights off from the kitchen.  ;)

Enjoy and keep sharing your progress with us.

I love your idea of putting cream in the sorbet instead of the egg white!  Naughty but nice!  ;D

You have corrupt ideas already! Make sure you share lots more with us.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hi all
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:42:10 am »
How exciting to get it in time for Christmas.

I did all my cooking leading up to the big event, then there were so many left overs, I didn't need to cook for a couple of days. My hubby complained that I wasn't producing any treats from the TMX! I tried to explain that we had to work our way through the food in the fridge first.  He still didn't like it but accepted it non the less. hehe

We were back in action today. Left overs done & dusted. Everyone is happy again.

Enjoy making treats for your family, I'm sure they will enjoy them as much as everyone else's families do.

It's a great book Judy. Really easy recipes that even I can do!  :D

Last night he made spaghetti carbonara which was delicious and he made the potato wedges for lunch yesterday. Simple stuff - just the way we like it!

So glad you asked this question Julie. I've been considering a Multigrain loaf myself.
I was thinking along the lines of the advice given here but it's aways good to hear that someone else has done it before you and had great success.
Thanks ladies.

There are never enough hours in the day to do all the recipes I'd like to (even saving the amount of time I do with Thermie).

On the upside, I bought my DS9 the Junior Masterchef cookbook for christmas and to my stunned amazement, he wants to cook everything in sight! I dont think it will be long before he's cooking full meals on his own. He's always pottered in the kitchen with me but all of a sudden he's taken off.  Tomorrow night he wants to try Garlic Prawns! Who am I to stand in his way?

Yippee!

Chit Chat / Re: Pantry Sorting
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:27:10 am »
I know what you mean. I've gradually been culling the pantry.

Before I got my TMX, I was in the process of making a list of the Tupperware containers I needed to order to complete my pantry and get things out of packets.  Now I've got empty containers looking for something to put in them.

How things have reversed! Saved me a small fortune, not just food and time.

And I'd be interested to know which baked beans recipe you use too. I haven't tried making them yet. Or tomato sauce for that matter.  Always room for improvement I guess.  ;)

An iPad application would be awesome! I hope it comes soon. I dont have an iPhone but that would be good too.

Modern technology. What ever happened to the old CWA cookbook days? Now we need technology all the time.

Yep! I need to copy the yogo label to stick it to my containers. He's a little monster. I haven't given up though. When I've tried to give it to him, he's been tired and it's not a good combination with food and my son.

I will not be defeated!!! ;)

Cakes / Marshmallow Jam Slice
« on: December 28, 2010, 05:11:34 am »
I can't take all the credit for this recipe but I'd like to1  ;) I got it from a magazine some time back but for the life of me, I can't remember which one, so I'm unable to credit the true owner.

Ingredients

3 Weet-Bix
70g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
80g (1 cup) desiccated coconut
140g (1 cup) plain flour
150g butter
Strawberry or Rasberry jam
Approx 375g marshmallows

1.Preheat oven to 180 C or 160 c fan. Prepare a slice tin with paking paper.
2.Put Weet-Bix into TMX and on  *: use turbo 2 - 3 times (or crush by hand if preferred), set aside.
3.Add butter and melt for 4 min on 50 C, speed 2
4.Add Weet-Bix, coconunt, caster sugar and flour to bowl. Mix for approx 30 secs on speed 5 to combine.
5.Put base mixture into prepared tin and press down firmly using the back of a spoon. Bake in oven for approx 20 mins or until lightly browned.
6.While the base is still warm, spread with jam. Arrange the marshmallows on top and put back in the oven for approx 5 minutes until just softened. The marshmallows will spread slightly.
7.Cool in the baking tray, then slice into squares to serve.

Thanks Judy.
I'm in the baking mood so I might try that this afternoon.
At the moment I'm making a Marshmallow Jam Slice. My boys love it!

I won an iPad in July and apart from games, I haven't used it much.

However just before Christmas, I did say to my hubby, I think I've found a better use for it. The Kitchen!!!

So much better than running back and forth from the computer. I don't like printing recipes out too much unless they're going to be used constantly. Bits of paper get lost so easily.

Finally the iPad can be used to better potential. I just need to buy a stand for it.

I'm not technical though so I haven't worked out how to save stuff or favourites etc.  I just have to go looking. Baby steps....

Yum!
My little fella doesn't like the normal custard recipe much. I think because it is so thick.
I might try this one and see how he likes that instead. Crazy thing is, he'd live on chocolate Yogo if I let him!
Do you use whipping cream or thickened cream Judy?

Thanks MJ, I'll try that one. A good way to use up the left over custard powder I have in the cupboard from pre TMX days. Slowly eradecating all those containers of prepacked stuff.

 ;D

Thanks so much Judy.
My mum was going to bring bought custard and I told her not to bother, I'd make it. Not a good start with next to no milk in the fridge. Will give it a go.
