Bread / Re: DAMPER RECIPE FOR AUSTRALIA DAY
« on: January 25, 2011, 02:44:23 pm »
Well the Pavlova is done and cooling in the oven. I was just about to search for the damper recipe and there it is. All ready for me to make. I use the Wallaby flour too! Even better.

Lamingtons will have to wait until tomorrow. Might not get them done in time but I've promised my hubby. Better late than never. He doesn't want to share them with our guests anyway so I'm sure he wont mind if they have to wait a day or so.  ;D

Wishing everyone a very happy Australia Day!

Chit Chat / What to do with egg yolks?
« on: January 25, 2011, 02:04:11 pm »
Of course for Australia day, I had to make Pavlova! It's a tradition with our friends and now an expectation.  :)

I don't want to waste the egg yolks. Can I use them for Torte Caprese or do I really need the egg whites as well.?

Any other suggestions for using up egg yolks would be greatly appreciated. I don't want them to go to waste.

Thanks in advance

Jodi

Oh thanks for the tip Kathryn! I'm going to make some this morning so it's a good job you told me.

Could have been rather messy!  :D

My best friend bought me a Butter Bell for Christmas! I've just got to make some butter to put in it now.  :D

I use Rice Bran Oil in my butter as it doesn't effect the taste of the butter, has no odour and it's 100% cholesterol free!

Trudy, I'm rather disappointed in your consultant. She's made a lot of money from your sales leads.  She should definitely show some appreciation with a little thank you.  :-))

I always like to give my customers a little something and that's without the sales, it's just nice to give a little.  ;)

Sounds good, I usually work Saturdays. But keep posting updates, I might be able to swap a shift so I can go.  :)

What a cheeky husband, showing a big smoke screen! Cunning but I like it. They're the best kind of surprises.

As your confidence builds, you will quickly work out how to adjust your recipes to suit the tastes of your family. Practice makes perfect as they say.

Oh Lesley, what a gorgeous husband you have. At least he bought you something you desperately wanted and something everyone will benefit from.

I love hearing about these sort of surprises.

And you've been cooking up a storm!

My mould arrived in the mail today! Yippee, looking forward to using it on the weekend. I have the best, best friend in the world for buying it for me for Christmas.

Just for everyones info. The lady in the US told my friend that there will soon be a distributor in Australia! With a bit of luck, the postage will be minimal and hence make them more affordable. Not sure when this will happen but worth keeping a lookout.

Dede, you honestly can't go wrong with your purchase.

If you can, get into the habit of using your Varoma a lot! Fantastic for steaming. Meat is spectacular and so are the vegies.  My family now prefer fish done this way. Everything is fat free cooking.  It's what you put on it that can be dangerous.  ;)

Fabulous for those summer salads and if you're after a sweet treat, make sorbet! You control the sugar content and there's no fat once again.

Win! Win! I say.

Good luck with your decision.

Oh my! I'm in love with your pantry MJ. <3

My pantry is just a single door, rather small. Which is a shame because of the amount of cooking I do.

One day when we get our dream home in the country, I will get my magical kitchen. One day......

Oh poop!. I think I like your recipe better. You make your own marshmallow too! Even better.

I'm hopeless at searching for recipes.  Need more practice! Which means more cooking!  :D

What a shame    ;)

I sent the link showing the moulds to my best friend quite a while back and blow and behold, she's bought me one for Christmas!  Only problem is, it's stuck in the post somewhere between here and the US.  Should be arriving soon I hope.

Can't wait to get it!

Happy dance!!!

Highly recommend it MJ. It's cheapest at Big W, only about $14.98. You can pay up to $20 anywhere else.
