Today day was THE day
« on: May 20, 2009, 03:06:22 pm »
so exicted again today as Thermalena arrived!! first thing I made was the Red Curry Paste followed by the Red Thai Chicken Curry, I then went out to the movies and dinner(with the girls). And left husband and kids to eat, I said to husband all you need to do is rice, you could do it in TM, but if you don't want to that's fine.

After movies I rang and asked how curry was to find out Husband cooked rice in TM I'm most impressed!!

Wow, well done! DH won't touch ours. It pains me a bit when I take the night off and he makes his mash in the microwave...

I haven't tried making rice in the TM yet, I usually do it on the stovetop while something else is cooking (usually something not very steamy at that)

Great name too :)

Karen, have you tried it with 1/2 water, 1/2 milk, no parmesan and just a dob of butter at the end?  Tastes just like 'ordinary' mash then.

Thanks everyone, I can't stop smiling, so happy!!! Yes my ordinary mash is not very good, so I can't wait to see what family thinks of it in Thermalena.

Made rolls this morning and children went to school with home made rolls for lunch! just rapt. And my eldest son he does pancakes on Sunday mornings and he is eager to do them in TM.

Which recipe did you use for the rolls Kathy?  Sounds like we have a budding little cook there - be careful, he might take over your Thermalena and you will be out of a job. ;) ;)

Excuse my ignorance but what is spelt flour and where do you buy it.  I haven't seen it at Foodland but that isn't surprising. A health shop maybe?

JD, I get my spelt from the health food shop.  Sometimes they have the grain there too which I usually grab.  Apparently there has been a bit of a shortage on spelt and sometimes I have trouble getting my hands on it.  It has a lower gluten level.  In Melb a while ago at one of the consultants meetings they ground the grain and then made spelt pizza bases - which were apparently a hit.  Spelt is a bit heavier in bread.  Sometimes I half the breadflour and substitute the rest with spelt for a load or pizza bases too.

Hey Brazen,
Have you tried without the butterfly?  I started using the butterfly to get rid of a few lumps that sometimes remained.

Re spelt flour - if I haven't got any, can I just use bakers flour or is the recipe specifically made for the heavier spelt flour only.

Yes JD, we are told here, don't NOT make a recipe if you haven't got all the ingredients .....adapt. They suggested mixing in some wholemeal flour if you cant find spelt. ;)
