Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: EDC p49 Hommus recipe tweak
« on: February 20, 2010, 11:08:12 am »
I think this recipe calls for way too much garlic - I only use 1/2 - 1 clove.  I also don't think the tmx chops garlic fine enough for hoummus - I use a garlic press instead.

My son (4 yo) also loves fried rice, pizza, spaghetti bolognese & pasta with tuna.  Also the Moroccan Lamb recipe on the forums, the butter chicken (from EDC), risotto, fish and veg steamed in the varoma (made it yesterday with a bit of garlic, ginger, coriander and coconut milk, wrapped in baking paper).

Yes, thanks cookie1, I had a look at the carrot and then kept going for a few more seconds because it still looked too chunky.  It was then a little finer but I guess I should have kept going a little longer.

I made this yesterday but it didn't go too well.   :(   ???

I'm not sure the carrot was grated fine enough (and I tm-ed it longer than instructions) and as a result it was quite dense and the mixture didn't taste sweet enough.  As a result, the nutmeg really overpowered it.

Maybe grating instructions need tweaking?

Tahini can also be served as a dip/spread itself, prepared in a similar way to houmous.  Add some lemon juice, salt, crushed garlic and thin it out with olive oil and/or water. Also nice with chopped parsley through it.

Just worked again!  Seems like it might only work for a while/day after I've posted?

Thanks everone.

After I posted yesterday, it worked once but now back to not working.  :(

Jabba I have been thinking of your problem and may I suggest the following.
When you have clicked on 'Show unread posts since last visit', if there are no posts you get notified that there were 'No unread topics found since your last visit'  then it says 'Click here to try all unread topics'
I have often found some posts in there for some reason (not always but sometimes).  Perhaps you could try clicking on that. Good luck.

Thanks jd but doesn't seem to work for me either.

I hope I'm posting in the right place.

For the last few days, The "show unread posts since last visit" link has been returning no results.  Anyone else experiencing this?  I use Firefox.

Fried rice.
Wedge of frittata - made using leftovers, left-over risotto is especially good, or using fresh ingredients.
Dinner left-overs.
Pieces of meat - schnitzel is always a winner, as are chicken drumsticks.
Plain veg - cherry tomatoes, carrot/cucumber sticks; plain pasta; some cubed cheese; crackers.
Hoummos (great with the plain veg) or other dip.
Mini pizzas.
Boiled egg.
Veg pasty.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello - new girl trying to make pasta sauce

Thanks Barbara.   :)

I made the sauce yesterday, included garlic but left out the onion and it was bright red.  Made a great sauce for our pizzas.

I omit the cornflour altogether, I find it's too thick if I include it, fine without.

Hi Susie,

I've made the pasta sauce a couple of times and it has also been orange.  It tasted good though and was thick.  If you want yours to be thicker, just cook it longer to evaporate more steam off.  I also sometimes throw in uncooked pasta for the last 10 min or so of cooking and have an instant meal.

I suspect the colour you end up with is related to the colour of the tomatoes we start with.  In the past I've bought Australian tinned tomatoes and compared to Italian tinned tomatoes - the Australian ones are always orange in colour, while the Italian ones are red.  Maybe try some different fresh tomatoes - e.g. roma?

Tamara.

Cakes / Re: Great Pattycakes
« on: December 17, 2009, 10:07:05 am »
I made these last night and they turned out really well.  But I needed to mix for about 2 min to incorporate the flour - and used the spatula.  I made 12 cakes in large pattycake papers (in muffin trays) and in my oven, cooking time was closer to 30 min.  Delicious!

Main Dishes / Re: Morrocan Lamb
« on: December 10, 2009, 09:11:51 am »
I made this late last night and we reheated it and have just eaten it for dinner.  It was delicious - even my 4-year old was raving about it.  And we still have a couple of bowls left for lunch tomorrow.

I had to make a few changes, based on what I had available.  I used 500 gm of lamb, a 400-ish gram tin of chickpeas, didn't have any tomato paste so used 90 g of Tomato (Pasta) Sauce (from the Everyday cookbook) that I had made the day before and the juice of most of one lemon.

We had it over quinoa, with some steamed veg and a dollop of yogurt.  Really, really good!

Thanks for all the welcomes.   :)

Welcome

Every new mum should get given a thermomix along with the baby bonus

The baby bonus was actually how I justified buying the tmx  ;)  Didn't need too much for baby but did need something to make life easier for us!
