Title: Coffee Liqueur using instant coffee
Post by: judydawn on March 23, 2014, 10:54:40 am
Recipe from http://www.goodcocktails.com/liqueur_recipes/coffee_liqueur_recipe.php - there is also one using brewed coffee.

375g water
210g brown sugar
15g instant coffee - any type including decaf.
1 tbspn pure vanilla extract or 1 split bean (remove bean after 4 weeks if using)
375g vodka

Place the water and sugar in the TM bowl and cook 1.5 mins/100o/speed 1.

Add the instant coffee and mix 5 sec/speed 1  Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature then add the vanilla and vodka.

Mix 5 sec/speed 1 then pour into a 1 litre jar.

Store the jar in a dark, cool place for at least a month, stirring the contents with a metal spoon at least once a week.

After a month of aging the coffee liqueur is ready to be bottled.

This is similar to Kahlua or Tia Maria and I like to use 1 part liqueur to 2 parts milk over ice for a nice evening drink.

I never had vodka in the house until all these liqueur recipes were posted CC, now it is a staple item to stock like flour and sugar LOL

Did ya know Judy that if you go I to a brew shop or even a Mitre 10 where they sell such you can buy little  30 ml bottles of concentrated essences which will turn your Vodka into most any other drink you like including Kalua.  They are about 8/10 dollars and will make two 750 ml bottles .

So you can buy a cheap bottle of vodka , add 15 mils of essence and have a $60 bottle of Grande Marnier or similiar. Not quite the Sam but not bad either.

I have 20 litres of water with6 kilos of sugar fermenting in the garage. I should get 6 litres of pure spirit from that. I will have to add water to bring the alcohol down to a drinkable level say 40%. If course I still have to distill after fermenting. Pretty simple process with the right equipment.

No I didn't know that Gert but I do get pleasure out of making something from scratch (not the vodka of course, that would be too much trouble for me).  Good to see you are back distilling your own alcohol  :D

Making your own is fun but there are hundreds you can make with essences too.   You could even turn Vodka into a Bourbon if you wanted.
Not great but acceptable with coke. Makes a cheaper option.

Anyway should you be passing a brew shop pop in to be amazed. A bit like Tea2!!

I did make ouzo over 30 years ago, not sure what I used but I remember having to buy it from a continental deli as they were called back then.  Not sure if there is a brew shop anywhere near me, it would certainly be interesting to browse as is the T2 shop.
