OMG this automated program is SENSATIONAL :o
I followed the recipe exactly.Weighed all the ingredients into bowl (the milk needs to be at room temperature) and pressed the Selector button.
Voila Eight Hours later perfect yoghurt ;D
I did make sure the bowl, lid and MC were very clean.
You can make it sweet by adding sugar at the start. And richer by adding cream too.
If you are big yoghurt eater you would buy the TM5 on this program alone.

OMG if I hadn't ordered one I would go and do it now. I rarely have success with yoghurt. Thanks CC.
-
Wow that's brilliant CC, thanks for sharing your experience once again.
-
CC, didn't think I would bother with this, but now probably will.
-
Looks great CC.
-
Looks lovely Denise, there is so much written about making yoghurt and it's still hard to get right - obviously not any more. Thanks for showing yet another thing the TM5 can do.
-
Very cool, CC 😎
-
Thats a great plus :)
-
That was one of the selling points for me.
-
Great yoghurt CC. Did you set it and go to bed or started early in the day?
-
I started the yoghurt at 10:00pm and at 6:00am the TM5 woke me up telling me the program had finished.A great alarm clock :D :D The dog was pleased to see me at that time. :D :D
-
Brilliant CC.
-
At least having the two machines the 5 can be making yoghurt while you cook with the 31. ;D
-
Very true Cookie. :D
-
Clever cookie. And you can cook rice in one and the rest of the meal in the other, thus saving time.
-
I'm not a real yoghurt lover, only using it in recipes. On the other hand my family love it, so will love to give this a go as soon as I can. I currently do easiyo which I've never been 100% happy about cos it uses milk powder, but ok cos it's cheaper than buying 1kg of equivalent quality yoghurt in the supermarket. Can I ask is a starter required with the first batch?

I do that all the time :)
-
The recipe does use milk powder and a starter CP. :)
-
What sort of starter do they say?
-
The recipe just stated plain yogurt CP.I used a plain bio yoghurt starter.
-
That was one of the selling points for me.
It's a great feature kyton.

I have saved making this until my head was a little clearer. I have done everything, though forgot about the milk at room temperature and waited a while, but milk at room temp here would differ to in the UK or Dubai.
I am standing beside it would you believe. I must not watch for 8 hours. Just after I had put it on DH requested a cup of coffee. I have put the coffee somewhere and I can't find it. I've looked in the fridge, the oven, the freezer, all the cupboards, the bin, and have no idea what I've done with it. ??? ??? ??? ??? Perhaps the mind isn't as clear as I had hoped. ;D ;D ;D
-
Have you found it yet Cookie?
-
Hmmn, I wonder what coffee yoghurt tastes like ... :D
-
Cookie, have looked in the undies drawer?
-
Coffee yogurt, I did buy some once it was ok but wasn't tempted to buy it again. I must get into yogurt making.
-
DH found the coffee. It was in the wall unit with the very best coffee cups. I'm sure I didn't put it there. ;D ;D ;D at least it's not in the yoghurt, which will be ready in 36 minutes.
-
I used the automated program to make coconut yoghurt overnight on Wednesday. It was really runny, but after 24 hours in the fridge it is much, much thicker. I didn't use any thickening agent (such as agar agar or pectin) or sweetener, just coconut cream, dry non-dairy yoghurt culture and a probiotic tablet.
-
My yoghurt was lovely and thick when I put it in the fridge last night. I stupidly put a little sugar in it bit I'm sure it will be ok. I haven't tasted it this morning yet.
-
CP I used to use Easyo as well until TMX days and now make the recipe from UK Thermomix site; no powdered milk. For a starter I used Jalna Bio Dynamic yoghurt from supermarket (you could use any good yoghurt but not flavoured) and I used the Margaret River milk. Just save a bit for the next time to use as a starter. Hope that make sense; it has always worked out nice and thick and no nasties in it.
-
This looks fantastic & I would use the TM to make this a few times a week as we eat a bit of yogurt & will be so much more affordable as I'm trying to cut out dairy so coconut yogurt made easy. At the moment I make using the easiyo
-
Sorry if I'm not allowed to ask too many details of a Review - but how exactly does the new machine make this yogurt? Is the milk/yogurt mixture remaining in the TMX for the 8 hours? Rather than being put into something insulated? Could I use my TM31?
-
Of course you can ask questions Anne ;D
Yes the milk/yoghurt mixture remains in the TM5 for the eight hours. The TM5 initially mixes the ingredients then the blades stop moving but the heat is kept constant for the eight hour program.
I'm afraid this wouldn't work in the TM31 as you can only program the machine for 60 minutes.
-
Anne if you google Thermomix Yohurt you will find a number of methods to use your 31, we have some on here but I don't know how to link them sorry.
-
I have been cut and pasting all the yoghurt methods used in TM5 in readiness for my delivery. I have never even contemplated making yoghurt in my TM31 - seemed too fiddly, but the automated has both myself and my husband quite excited.
-
I've been making yoghurt in the TMX 31. Just the initial stiring and heating. Let it set overnight in the Easyo machine. I use some of my last batch or a good no fat bought yoghurt . Not sure that I will use the program on the 5 as the time factor may not be convenient. Put it on at 11 pm and up at 7 am to remove it. Wouldn't want to tie up the bowl for 8 hours during the day. Not until I can get a second bowl. Maybe I haven't got the facts right on the auto process. ,!
-
Chookie, even with a second bowl , I am presuming that the bowl with yogurt stays on the machine so it keeps warm? .. I used to make yogurt in an electic round thing with jars its still in the cupboard might drag it out and have another go with help from the TMX?
-
I'm planning on making mine late at night before bed. That's what my friend who is a consultant has been doing. Her yoghurt has been working fantastically. That's all dependant on when my TM5 actually arrives LOL.
-
AB, yes you are quite right. I forgot about that.
Get that maker out and have a. go.
-
I made my first yoghurt the other day. I was thrilled that it worked and the flavour was excellent. However despite sterilising everything my yoghurt was still sort of stringy. I need to solve this before I make another lot. I have had this happen before and THINK it is a bug in the system. Any help gratefully received.
-
Cookie1 I have been making yogurt in the easiyo for a couple of years now & have never sterilized anything just washed my glass jar in hot water that's it never had a problem. This link may be of some help http://nourishedkitchen.com/troubleshooting-homemade-yogurt-questions/
-
Thanks for that. I actually have the yoghurt draining now to see if it will make paneer.
-
Thanks for the link Naturalmumma. Although I have been making yoghurt for over 40 years, I have learnt a lot today.
-
That's disappointing cookie. I haven't tried the yoghurt yet. Hope the paneer worked.I am missing making our food and look forward to getting home and playing with my new toy. Glad to hear you are starting to feel better.
-
Thanks for the link NM very interesting I'm ready to start making yoghurt and that was most informative.
-
I've had to rob the draining yoghurt a few times as I needed some for cooking. After reading that helpful thread I may have solved my problem. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I still think that using a yogurt maker is the best way to go.
I follow superkitchenmachines method and then pour into individual jars (or a larger container if making paneer).
The yogurt maker is temperature controlled and can culture for up to 24 hours if needed. I usually do 12 hours for our weekly yogurt.
The yogurt maker doesn't use much power and the thermomix is free to be used for other cooking.

Have to agree. But 10 hours over night seems right for us. I make 1 liter a week.
-
I had a fantastic yoghurt maker and lent it to Mum. When she went to cook in heaven one of the family nicked it. I wish I knew who, I would visit and claim it back. It has probably been thrown out by now anyway.
-
What is the best yogurt maker to buy please other than the new tmx?
-
I like the Aldi one with small jars...we like yoghurt but don't go through as much as other members. I use Faffa's yoghurt (1/2 quantity), poured into the jars and then in the incubator.
-
I'm not sure what brand mine is ,there's a small orange house above the turn on switch no writing, small jars also, takes 1 litre , just me eating yogurt so it's plenty. Sorry can't check underneath as yogurt is setting now.
-
I have one I bought through the GAPS website.
http://shop.gapsaustralia.com.au/gaps-kitchen/
It works very well and has small jars or you can put a larger container in if you wish.
-
Emme, mine is the Electric One. Makes a liter at a time . I think the thing to decide is wheat her to buy one that makes small jar or a large amount to is versatile and will make both.
-
Thanks ladies for your help, I think I will look into getting one that makes at least a litre.
-
I make 2L of yogurt at a time in the TM31 once a week. Just milk and some left over starter from the last batch. As simple as simple and brilliant results every time. I wouldn't use the TM5 for that b/c I wouldn't want to be using electricity all night. As it is I just pop it in the Thermosever for 8 hours. And I can still use my TM31 during the day.
When I first read the TM5 made yogurt I thought 'wooohooo - I would buy it for that' but I have since realised I wouldn't!

cookie next time you are all gathered around the table enjoying a nice meal, casually bring up the topic of making yoghurt. you will find out in no time ;)
-
Someone would blush for sure. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Or else there would be lots of "not me, not me".
-
LOL Cookie!
-
Well , didn't think I would use the auto programme for yoghurt, but am doing so today. I am not making anything else in 5 today so don't mine using it duuring the day. Interestingly , the 5 heats the mixture to 45. I heat mine to 37. I use long life milk, this recipe uses fresh milk. I haven't added the powdered milk or cream.
-
I will be interested to see what happens. I can't see the point of leaving it in the jug myself but if the machine has nothing else to do........
Gert
-
Gert, it is holding it at 37 all day.
-
Yup. I would rather use the Thermoserver at this stage .
Must make some cottage cheese.
Gert
-
I wasn't thrilled with the automated yoghurt but will try again. It's sort of curdled. I bought organic non homogenised Margaret River Milk and organic Greek yoghurt. I will use it for a banana cake.
-
i have never had problems with making yoghurt and this is no better than what i usually make. i wont tie up the machine for the day when i can use my other method for 10 hours overnight. It will even sit for a couple more hours without dinging its alarm at me.
