Sneaky little devils Rosie - mind you they got good value for $25.20  :D
  :)  :D  ;D   >:(
The joys of homeschooling and having the boy along on every shopping trip.   :-))
Looks like Che stuff mainly.  Except a multi pack of drumstick icecreams I know are a favourite of Hugh  :)
Looking at the docket it seems everything the added was on special, except the Chocolate mud.
I am hoping I can use that as frosting on cupcakes.  It will not be going on toast.  Little monkey he is   :-*

Managed to get to the shops today.  DH had run out of petrol for the mulcher and shredded its belt with stilll a lot of branches to dispose of.
He went to get the man stuff while I did a quick shop.  Then he and Che met me to help finish the groceries.
When I paid at the checkout I thought it was a bit high.  I had added roughly as I put things in and thought it was close to $100 but it came to $120.
I understood when we got home and I unpacked.  :)   I found.   .A very large packet of jelly beans,  A very large packet of fruit chews, a jar of Scoobydoo Chocolate mud spread   :P, 4 boxes of icecreams.  Total $25.20  ???

I had wondered why the two boys were being so ultra helpful with pushing the trolley and unloading the groceries.    :-))

My Silicone Calippo thingies arrived today. Don't ask me why but I smelled one and it smells horrible! There's no way I'm putting food into it smelling like that. They are all currently in the dishwasher & I'm hoping that'll fix them & it was just the smell of the plastic bag they were in...anyone else have the same problem? Anyone have any ideas?
Mine had a slight smell but not horrible.
I put them all through the dishwasher before I used them and there was no noticeable smell after they dried.
I have filled them all with chocolate Gelati and they are all re-appearing in the dishwasher.  Che has not mentioned anything about taste or smell and he is extremely sensitive to both.
I am now refilling with raspberry juice cordial..

Special Diets / Re: A perfect alternative to sugar.
« on: January 30, 2013, 12:33:21 pm »
I rarely buy sugar. I would use maybe a kilo a year for making the two cakes  or cookies I make in a year.

I do however buy 6 kilos of white sugar for every time I brew  alcohol. I could use dextrose but it is cheaper to use straight out sugar .

So the sugar won't kill me but the alcohol might!

Gert

Love it Gert   :-))
I am just starting to experiment with brewing.  Having fun and enjoying a glass of something different each night.
I am currently working my way through 20 liters of Pear Cider.
I have Ginger Beer in the fermentation vat to be battled tomorrow,"
A couple small test batches of Apple & Mango and Pear & Passionfruit  bubbling merrily.   :P
And will have to start a new batch of something for DH as his supply is dwindling rapidly.  Must be this crazy weather we are having.

I replace a lot of cane sugar with organic Xylitol,  But it doesn't work in brewing or yeast raising as it is non fermentable.

I'm doing well.   Last week was $43.45.
So far this week nothing as we had a huge tree fall across our driveway during the storms and have only just managed to clear it away enough to get the car out today.
It has been very good incentive to clear out my pantry.

Chit Chat / Re: 5 in 1 multicooker
« on: January 30, 2013, 11:59:54 am »
The 5-in-1 in absolutely fantastic. :)
I love mine and use it a lot.  I bought a big bag of carrots and steamed them for freezing in no time.
Made my Christmas pud in iit as a slow cooker
With the deals on at present grab the 6-in-1.  Free shipping and the deep fryer and extra bowl  included.  WOW.

When I got the 5-in-1 I didn't have the choice, and when the 6-in-1 was released didn't worry as I would seldom use the fryer.
Now you get it all for less than the 5-in-1 was.
To me it's a no brainer.   :D

Chit Chat / Re: The Devil in the Milk - A1 and A2

We get yummy guernsey milk from the Maleny dairy when we can find it.
It sells out quickly as they are just a small dairy and can't produce enough to meet demand.

It is soooo different in a cup of coffee.
We bought some milk from Aldi recently and I couldn't drink coffee made with it.

Bread / Re: Turkish Bread
« on: January 18, 2013, 10:24:18 am »
I'm gonna give this a try H cos I love the look of all the holes - just like the real thing. Sprinkling with nigella seeds might be nice also.
Mmmm.  I love nigella seeds.  It took ages to find out what they were. They always seem to be used on turkish bread and give it that special flavour.
Now I use heaps of them.
Will have to give this recipe a try.

Just tallied up and my weeks total was $100.23.
So I'm okay with that.    :D
That included $18.00 for a box of 14 BIG mangoes,   Yumm
Plus brewing stuff for Ginger Beer, and 10 liters of juice for some fruit wine I am experimenting with.

They look like thy could be alien faces Rosie ;D
TY Amy.
I thought they look a bit like Oods from Doctor Who.
Hugh has eaten several and Che has been munching them down today and seems to really like them. :-))
He has requested "Angry Birds" next time.  Heaven knows what the result would be.  But at least alien faces would be appropriate.

They took longer to cook than the recipe said  About 20 minutes. (I mixed and cooked in the TC)
And I only had extra large eggs (I buy free range for the Frog Mouth and the extra lge are usually the cheapest) so I think the mix was a bit too wet.
Plus I tried to cook both the small cake (in the base of the steamer) and the patty cakes in the top.
The cake rose until it touched the tray and the patty cakes tried to push the lid off.
Perhaps just one at a time.   LOL.    :-))  But it was late at night and I wanted to make them before bed.

I tried my steamed lady bug cakes..   :P
I'm pretty sure this is the right place to put the result picture  LOL..

they look nothing like the picture I took the recipe from.
I think my decorating skills need a bit of work.     ;)
They taste too eggy for me and otherwise very boring flavour.
Might be okay with custard like a sponge pudding.

More than happy to be a member of a cult that is all about healthy wholefoods.
