Post by: Mummzy Sair on September 03, 2010, 06:03:03 am
Can anyone tell me if you can buy cultures to make this.... I would love my son to be able to have yoghurt but he is allergic to dairy and soy. If anyone can point me int he right direction it would be muchly appreciated TIA

I just posted a soy yogurt recipe I have never tried this combination but maybe worth a go.
Replace the soy yogurt with 2 cans organic coconut milk, unsweetened
add 1/4 to 1 cup Rice Milk Powder (experiment)
you may add pectin mixed with the Rice milk powder to make it thicker.
Good Luck.

I posted a link to a recipe for making kefir from young coconut  and I see no reason why a yogurt culture would not work as well.

Here's the link. (http://www.bodyecology.com/mcoconutkefir.php)

Here in the US, YoLife  cultures  are non-dairy:
"A non-dairy mix of dextrose, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus"

Google "Non-dairy yogurt culture to locate a source for a similar product in Australia."

Or you can contact Cheeselinks (http://shop.cheeselinks.com.au/Cheese-and-Yoghurt-Starters-Mould-Spores-and-Aroma-Cultures/Type-C-aBY-Yoghurt-Starter-p37.html) and ask if their cultures would be suitable.
