Title: Rice not cooking consistently
Post by: BeezeeBee on February 26, 2014, 01:45:00 pm: I always cook rice the same way in the TM. 400g rice, wash it well. 1 L water. Rice in basket. Varoma temp, 16 mins, speed 4.

Unfortunately, the rice has become unreliable lately. It is not always fully cooked, and I had to add more time to the cooking. Usually an extra 5 mins. Today my extra 5 mins didn't work. The rice was still a bit hard :(

Not sure if anyone has encountered the same issue.

Post by: Nik2WIN on February 26, 2014, 07:22:16 pm: Are you making sure that the measuring cup is on? My rice takes longer in the Winter than in the Summer as our water temperature is REALLY cold in the Winter.

We always use Basmati rice and cook for between 20 and 23 minutes.

Post by: whisks on February 26, 2014, 08:49:50 pm: perhaps you could try 380g instead of 400g of rice. i usually try and cook something in the varoma when i am cooking rice.

Post by: Aussie Brenda on February 26, 2014, 08:57:58 pm: I usually cook Basmati Rice for 17 mins never weigh it just tip in what I think is right, rinse it and it is fine maybe it is your batch if rice.

Post by: kyton on February 27, 2014, 01:05:49 am: We use basmati, sp 4 on varoma for 18mins. I did read a hint the other week on Quirky's blog to do a couple of seconds on sp 5 to ensure the water is washed through the rice prior to setting the time and heat.

Still the same batch of basmati. Cooked 400g for 20 mins. First 5 mins at speed 5, then dropped to speed 4.

Post by: CreamPuff63 on March 03, 2014, 01:57:28 pm: 300 - 350g is usually enough if I'm cooking for about 3-4 people. I cut it down to 200g if only cooking for 1 person (with some leftovers for the following day). Has always been perfect, but maybe it differs between brands?
