Title: Secret Santa 2014 presents
Post by: snappy on October 21, 2014, 07:18:36 am
I have a very organised secret Santa!😄😄😄

I think I might be the first person to receive their present - it arrived in the mail today.  If my SS looked at my previous track records I have never been able to wait very long before opening my presents - patience has never really been my thing 😀😀😀. So I'm not sure how long I will be able to hold out before I cave in but I am trying to make it to November at least 😳😳

It's a beautiful gold package from POK - which is very exciting.  I've been doing a lot of feeling and I think it is a cloth or material item - maybe an apron or some lovely linen napkins???  I know POK has a fabulous table linen section so I think it might be something from there!

Thank you SS!

Very exciting, Snappy.  Hopefully you can hold off for a while but the anticipation of discovering what is hidden behind that gorgeous wrapping paper can be hard to resist.

You're too quick for me, Uni!
If I try to add a picture from the iPad via Tapatalk, it is huge, and I don't seem to have an option to resize it. I can't add a picture directly on the Forum as it is too big to be accepted.
But if I take the picture on my phone, it will load, as long as I send it to myself as a text message first (that compresses it, as otherwise it is too large).
So, I write the post on the iPad (larger screen for elderly eyes and fat fingers  ;D), then quickly (but not quickly enough ;)) switch to the phone to edit the post and add the picture!
Phew!  :D

I know, Goldfish!
There must be an easier way, but I haven't found it. For some reason I can't get my phone and ipad to Bluetooth. I will have one in each hand, both searching for nearby devices, and they just won't connect. I think it is the phone that has a problem....I can never Bluetooth it to the photo printers at BigW either. However it connects to Bluetooth in the car without a problem, so I'm a bit stumped.  ???
First world problems, anyway!   :D

Thanks Uni,

I have created a secret group......just me and DD. She gave me a major eye roll when I was trying to explain!  :D

I seem to have to copy the image to a reading list, then save from there....maybe because it's on the iPad.

Anyway here goes........

Have you:
A) shaken it?
B) smelt it?
C) poked it?
D) is it squishy?

Title: Re: Secret Santa 2014 presents
Post by: gertbysea on November 10, 2014, 07:30:47 am
Ok it is weighing less than 3 kilos, and feels like more than one thing. Possibly . When I shake it I makes a noise like a box of jig saw puzzle. Or a box of chocolates. No smell. Not squishy.  I feel bubble wrap.  Don't think it is a book. Interesting.  I wonder if it is chocolate and I should put it into the fridge . But then again .......... Oh dear I have such a lurgy I can't smell anything . It is really a very odd shape but that may be because it is several things.  Not opening it though!  Maybe just a corner.    No I will be strong.

Gert

And now something feels like it has a handle. Ummmm. Hope it is a fly swatter. I really need one of those.

Thank you SS from the UK (the stamp was a give-away).  I just have to follow my own suggestions of restraint for the next 6 weeks ... how the heck am I supposed to do that!!!!!!!!!!

Good guidelines there.  It really is very hard when you get your SS early, isn't it.  However, 'revenge is sweet' - I have sent my SS present off so I can enjoy someone else in the same agonising situation as me!

In my SS parcel there is something  that feels like a long handle.  It feels like it is resting on something square which seems to be resting on something else. Everything slides a bit . I won't open it just yet  but an looking for a fly  swatter . They used to be easy to find. Maybe I can get a thong one in a tourist shop in town.

Gretch look in the fly spray aisle perhaps? I hope that if you can't find one in the supermarket you score lucky with SS, but you may have a flypan in the parcel - that will knock em dead   ;)

Gert if you buy a thong one, give it a few good swats before you pay for it. Mine broke. :-\

I haven't shopped for my SS yet. I have put lots of thought into it and come up with very little. I want to escape by myself so it will have to wait until I can drive or the weekend when DD can drive for me. :D

My family thinks I'm having some kind of breakdown. I have tears in my eyes from laughing at some of the comments from you wicked girls  :D

I have managed to keep my SS present wrapped. Once the Xmas tree goes up (Dec 1) it should be a bit easier cos I love presses under the tree.

Djinni,  you are so strong.
DD is doing Xmas this year but I love the smell of a Xmas tree. Sometimes we go to a harvested forest and cut down a stray.  There is often a sign saying , help yourself.
We have a  pine growing up the back and sometimes the GC help Ral cut a branch.  It usually makes a very strange looking tree but by the time the kids have thrown decorations at it ,it is a true Xmas tree.
Today rushed to the PO thinking SS had been, but no.  2 beautiful gifts.  One I will keep for Xmas day,  the other had such an enticing aroma we had to open it.  Beautiful coffee and just perfect. will remind us of this very nice generous couple each time we enjoy our 11 O'clock coffee.

I was waiting for another delivery so I opened the parcel post bag before I realised what it was.

No smell, very soft, very light.  Intrigued.

I took a picture but tapatalk won't let me upload it.  I'll post as soon as I can sort it out

We are putting up our tree this weekend, and this will be the first pressie to go under it.

I am going to sit on them until nearer Christmas, I hope you don't mind.  The 3rd parcel is one I sent to a good forum friend LOL, it came back to me :D  They confused the sender with the receivee so will repackage and try again, be patient dear friend.

Astarra maybe you need to slow down, although I guess that would be hard. Your SS gift is very lovely. It's wonderful that you had it to lift your spirits.

I am so glad your SS cheered you up. You have had a rough year and work so hard looking after your lovely family.
Judy's right, slow down... If you can. And yes it's the pot calling the kettle black as I've always gone at 90 miles over hour, but am finding it less easy to do now!
Get well soon, and please make sure you have physiotherapy for your hip after. Xxxxx

I was totally overwhelmed to receive an extra gift from a not so secret SS today - an electronic gift voucher.  I have already 'spent' it in my mind in a thousand different ways ... making the final decision will be great fun, and I think I know what I will get already (well, I've narrowed it down to 10 things now), but that is bound to change several times more before I finally decide!  Thank you so very much to my dear super-generous and thoughtful second SS!

Thank you all for you get well wishes  :-*, & yes, my SS gift certainly cheered me up, thank you again  :-*

I was helping a family friend move house and was holding a basket full of stuff, a child ran past and I stepped back to avoid dropping the basket on said child, got my foot caught in a roll of lino that was just sitting there, and my leg went one way while I landed on my back/bum in a different direction ---- but I didn't drop the basket!!!!  8) :-)) :-))
Hip has been put back in and is ok now, tailbone is still painful but at least I am up and about (mostly) again.
I am definitely hoping 2015 will not be an accident prone year, and I am sure my bruised battered body is too!  ;D
have just been lying on the couch for the last 2hrs, DH looking after me very well  :-* :D

Hope everyone has a very merry accident-free Christmas and New Year.  :D

Lots of places do that Chookie. Amazon. POK, Coles Myer to name a few I have used. POK will send an email or they will send the actual card.  You just print it out or download to you smart phone if they allow that facility and good as gold !

It is 35 here today with a it of rain and storms in the distance. My DHmjust whacked a March Fly in the house. So I am reaching in my SS bag for what I am sure is a fly swatter and will return in a moment with a pic.

OMG I was so right. It is indeed a fly swatter which also doubles as a fry pan and I am soooooo happy now I can make square eggs for sangers perfect for small fry up such as roasting nuts  but mainly a great fly whacker.

What a useful gift that will get lots of outings. I am thinking a western egg for supper after the cricket. Perfect with a glass of bubbles.

Thank you dear SS. There is also something else in the bag but not looking.

Geoff just cracked up when I explained the story then read out your posting Gert.  I doubt it will fit into the a/f if the handle is not detachable.
Gert, what would we do without your sense of humour, you've always given us so many laughs.  May you continue to do so for many years  to come.  Good luck with the fly swatting or egg frying.

Yes it is. Very unique. Must be careful swatting on the glass topped tables though.  Good weight. Good grip on the handle. Perfect in  every way and that you can fry a square egg in it is a bonus.

We got ours in one of the Chinese general goods stores - ours looks just like a tennis racquet.  I haven't seen one on sale for a while ... but then again, I haven't needed to look.  Just be careful, they can give you a fair jolt if you touch them when they are on!

Omg you are not funny believe this! I reached in my SS bag and this beautiful necklace jumped out into my hand. I have been looking for something green to wear and look at this .

Isn't it clever that it has the Thermomix theme and colour. Absolutely gorgeous and I will wear it often when cooking. Seems it is made of silicone so is even washable and can be used as worry beads as it comes with it's own little bag.

Also because it is a good quality silicone I could use it as pie weights especially clever as they won't come apart and bounce all over the floor when I put them away.

I have now wrapped up my very old hard little balls and will regift them to my DD for Christmas. Hated those damn things.

So this SS gift can be used in so many ways but I think the necklace is particularly lovely. Don't you?  I wonder if I can get matching earrings?
Title: Re: Secret Santa 2014 presents
Post by: judydawn on December 18, 2014, 12:35:02 am
Oh Gert you are such a scream.  You could probably wear them out, not many people would be aware they're a Thermomix item.
Knowing you, you would be game enough to too  :D :D

What a wonderful multi use gift. Some SS are putting so much thought into their gifts. It picks out the green in your top Gert. Don't forget to wash off any flour or anything that gets on them should you decide to use them for pie weights. This may possibly be why they can be washed.
Such a thoughtful SS.

Gert, you're amazing;

I needed cheering up this morning so decided to open my secret santa present and WOW, was I cheered up. I will take a photo and try and post but in the meantime I will describe this wonderful present. Thank you so much to my SS. I have wanted a book like that for ages after hearing about Beechworth Bakery on this forum; and signed as well.

My gift was MORE Secrets of the Beechworth Bakery and it was signed by Tom O'Toole. And there is more, two eight sided little dishes with a Christmas Carnival pattern; perfect to serve all those little things we make for Christmas or for DH and myself with our cuppa.

Thank you again for such a special gift; I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family, troupie.

Our SS gifts are very special, they come from friends with similar interests to ourselves so we're pretty sure to receive something really nice.
I feel, one by one they'll start being opened now.  We all love to see what others are receiving.

As you can see it's in a very "Christmasy" box tht will be useful for storing things in later.  Thank you SS

Lovely gifts Troupie and Mab.

Gert, after receiving the multi-purpose flyswat, I guessed the rest of your presents would have more than one use. It looks great as a necklace.  :D

I have 2 of their books but neither of them are signed. That one has a lovely story with it.
I have been there when over that side of the country. I wonder, do they still have the old delivery truck outside their premises?

Gert, love the necklace. I was telling Ral about the square 'fly swat'.  He said not to hit Ted with it, if a fly should land on his head.
Things are getting a bit exciting. I have covered up my SS pressie so I am not tempted for a few more days.

I think I am one of the luckiest people in the world at the moment. I weakened and opened my SS. They are obviously a person who sews beautifully. Not only 4 beautiful placemats with Perth icons embroidered onto them, but 2 lovely little mats to match for your coffee. As well 6 lovely cards to attach to gifts and the most beautiful card. I know I am gushing but they are so very beautiful. My house is blue and these look so lovely on my jarrah table.

Thank you SS you are so very clever and know lots about me.

Dear SS I WILL get the hang of this square egg business. I used Astarra's bread toasted which is not quite square and the egg was small. I forgot to,scrape the dead flies from the bottom of the fly swatter/square egg fryer so there was a wee bit of sizzle on the stove. No matter as it all worked out well. Thank you dear SS.

Maybe 2 eggs would fit and fill the square frying pan up more Gert. One looks great for a bacon and egg sandwich though. I break the yolk for a B & E sandwich or for hamburgers though - is that what others do?

Well I finally opened my last SS present and LO and behold there are three delicious perfumes. What a choice. They all smell delicious and also they can be used as defusers as there is the added bonus of defuser sticks.

So thank you SS for sending me  6 different presents in the guise of three. Triply blessed

I'm very sorry to my SS as I have been missing in action and haven't posted about my beautiful present. We have moved house for the second time in six months and the removalists didn't show up!  Very stressful 😠😠 but we are in our beautiful new home now and all is good.

I opened my SS whilst I was packing - it is a gorgeous green floral cotton dressing gown - just perfect for summer.  I absolutely love it and will post pics once I have unpacked my camera. Thank you very much SS, you have wonderful taste 😀😀😀

I love seeing what everyone else has received.

Many many thanks to a most generous and perceptive SS. Beautifully wrapped with hand made card.
Inside first parcel are 2 sets of seedling pots and 4 packets of seeds, all of which will grow here. Also a very practical pair of garden gloves with leather palms.
Second parcel contained a book that I would have chosen myself.  I have had a brief look through and haven't found a recipe that I wouldn't make.
Who are you that you know me so well.?
Thank you very much. (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/23/56420e962be2d2f050451ffa5154b78b.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/23/912ce3508806b82ada0750ca7e90bb4b.jpg)

You tricked me SS :D The brand name on the box had nothing to do with the contents :D
A very clever and thoughtful SS has selected some very cool things to go in the motorhome (or kitchen). A julienne peeler, mini spatula/tongs, a garlic crusher, a very pretty bag that can carry up to 20kgs, a packet of Tasmanian pepper berries and a beautiful card. Thank you SS. I love all the things you have chosen for me :-*

A beautiful lunch bag (which hopefully is too pretty for DH to steal for his lunch). A box of cupcake cases, a sweet fairy to go on my tree, choccies, and a bookmark and brooch (an elephant, funnily enough in colours that match my fabric covered notebook that lives in my bag).
What a clever and generous Santa - thank you!!!

Merry christmas to my SS and thank you so much ☺️

Sorry to be so late getting back to this thread...things have been so hectic here!

I was very good and waited until Christmas Day to open my gift, and discovered the most beautiful wooden pepper grinder. I wondered aloud what it was made of, and the answer swiftly came back from DD: "Wood!"   :-)). I had been hoping for something a little more specific!

I have a good idea who my secret Santa is, as I have seen pictures of these mills before, so it is even more special knowing that it is handmade.

It will take pride on our table, and every time I use it I will think of my SS, (and her very clever DH!), and the lovely people of this amazing forum.

Thank you!  :-*

I am having trouble (again) posting pictures, so will come back later when I have more time and try again.

Back from holidays so I hope I can now post my photo of my lovely SS presents.  It will be immediately obvious who my SS is and my thanks once again, for your lovely gift.

As you can see, I got my chair to model the apron.  The calendar was produced by a friend of my SS and personally signed by her as well.

CC - you were quick off the mark ... I was trying to download a better image and before I could do that you had posted your response, so I have managed to get my post out of order!  But you are right, it is a lovely gift.

Lovely gift Marina.

Today I've made ricotta using my Mad Millie cheese making kit I received from SS. I thought I should start with the easiest recipe in the kit. It said to heat the milk to 95 degrees in a pan whilst stirring the whole time. I thought "no" and decided my TMX could do a better job of that than me!

I've not made ricotta before, it was easy and I'm now wanting to make Helene's ricotta recipe to compare.  I'm going to use the ricotta to make ricotta gnocchi from In The Mix for dinner.

Thanks SS again for my gift. I think I'll make mozzarella next.

I love Helene's ricotta recipe as it is so easy. You will wonder why you ever bought cottage cheese or ricotta.

Katie I have that same kit. Like you it was a gift. I use helene's Tmx method but follow the kit recipe for ricotta. Works a treat every time. The best tip is to lay cheesecloth over varoma Tray to drain the ricotta. I haven't made mozzarella yet. Don't know why. Good luck.
Lovely gifts Marina.

Lovely Ricotta Katie. I am thinking of making some today using Helenes method as there is a lovely pasta  recipe in the beautiful Recipe book I got from my SS.
