Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but I thought it would be interesting to find out what type of things some of us collect. Personally, I don't collect anything by my dh collects musical instruments - he's a bit of a musician.
Desi :)
-
Fabric lol.
My stash is getting larger and larger, so now my DH dubs it a 'collection' ;D
-
I did collect dolphins many many years ago BEFORE it became popular to do so. Black then it was hard for people to source them for gifts!!
-
I collect vintage colored wine glasses. I have them everywhere and happily buy just one if it catches my eye. We use them every day too. Just love crazy happy look of stacks of different glasses on the table together.

Haha I even paint them! Just a tad obsessed with them :)

-
I too love dolphins Faffa.
Jude, what a lovely collection of colour. Thanks for the pics :)
-
Lots and lots of fabric. It's in the sewing room, 2 bedrooms and a cupboard in the garage. I am trying so hard to reduce it but it's not easy coz I like it all.
-
I don't collect anything, my DH collects cars... 7 and counting
-
Jude, lots of glasses at your house, love the colours.
Dont collect anything in particular, just have lots of anything, LOL
-
I collect coins :) I probably have a few hundred. My oldest one is from the 15th century, and I have some very special ones with engravings on them.
-
Wool, vintage tortoiseshell knitting needles, carltonware and last but definately not least, vintage knitting and crochet patterns.
Love those wine glasses :)
-
last but definately not least, vintage knitting and crochet patterns.
knittercook, I have some of my mothers old crochet patterns , some as far back as 1942, that I will never use. I can crochet but mainly make bobbin lace.
Marie :)
-
Penguins everywhere in my house.( Including my Great Nephew in his penguin all in one suit.)
Love the glasses Jude
-
Wedgwood, love it. My hubby loves buying it for me too!
Diamonds ... Hubby decided I should have a pink one (And was I gonna argue with that? No!) So he went to Linney's and had a ring made for me with a pink, 2 champagnes, 2 cognac's and 3 whites (normal ones). It never comes off my finger I wear it all the time.
-
Toys and books for the kids from the opshops LOL! No, I don't collect now. I used to collect smart hats like Stetson and akubra. But they've turned into fancy dress now
-
Nikkit, your ring sounds lovely. You're a lucky girl :)
-
Nikkit how lucky are you. I have a few pieces from Linneys. One is a ring I wear all the time. No pink diamonds in it only normal and champagne ones, I have their sardine tin brooch too. It is lovely with pearls and a tiny diamond.
As for collecting things. I have heaps of cookbooks, but have tried to stop buying them. I have a stamp collection that started when I was a kid, Australian stamps only though. I love pigs so have a few of them too. I am partial to nice rocks too and have a bit of a collection of them from around Australia. I have lots of shoes but I don't call that collecting them.
As you know DH collects vintage cars.
-

Under the blue tarpaulin is the chassis of another, then the wheels. The parts are scattered
The black one should be on the road about Christmas or so as the restoration should be finished by then.
-
Kids, I have 5 already lol :D
-
Kids, I have 5 already lol :D
Are you planning to add to this collection dede?
-
No I don't think so cookie, I think my collecting days are over :D
-
I love old china. It started when my mum gave me some pieces from her wedding.
(http://img.tapatalk.com/95879258-3f31-b6a2.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/95879258-3f3f-5bdf.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/95879258-3f4d-ce7b.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/95879258-3f60-2d02.jpg)
-
I used to collect china and figurines, but they are all boxed up since building a new house. Am liking the minimal dusting and will not be buying a china cabinet, so I will admire other peoples from now on and stuff in shop windows. Mum said I could have a very expensive fine china teaset that was her mums, but reluctantly I said no. I wouldn't mind a diamond collection like Nikkit though! DH thinks jewellery is such "a waste of money" - phooey! I think the same about surfboards.
-
my Mum says, Dirt and Diamonds...... ;D
You can't get any more than whats there now... :D
The price will always go up..
-
Honey pots. Have lots of them.
-
Honey pots sounds fun Michelle, Photos.....please
-
Honey pots. Have lots of them.
Like Winnie the Pooh? :D
-
Can I claim to collect dust ??? At least then I have an excuse!
Cookie1 I absolutely love those cars. I'm not into cars at all but the vintage ones amaze me. Love seeing them on the road.
My friends used to collect meat mincers. Such a cool collection. She had about 120! I never realised that so many existed. I'd love to start an interesting and unusual collection like that.
-

CP our DH's sound similar. Mine calls jewellery ' baubles' and won't give flowers because they don't last.
-
Love your collections girls. I think my collecting days are over, apart from recipe books or food magazines which is not a collection as such but just continues to grow as the girls often give me magazine subscriptions for birthdays and Mothers' Day gifts and I don't throw them out once I've read them. My cow collection has dwindled to just a few Beswick ones, my doll collection (apart from 3 my DD bought back from overseas) went to Mum's retirement village fete as did a spoon collection and a lot of silverware. The older I get the less I want to do and dusting is not my favourite pastime nor do I have room for anything else in this house. DH still has his childhood tin toys in a large toy box he made and a few years ago we sold his parents' extensive collection of coins.
-
When I first read this thread, I thought that I didn't have a collection of anything. Then I read judy's reply, looked at my cookbook bookcases which are stacked two deep, and then looked at the other 3 bookcases full of books, and changed my mind.
-
Yes I am very lucky to have a wonderful hubby that spoils me. I don't think I'll trade him in on a new model, I'll keep him for a bit longer. ;D
Cookie - there is something special about a Linneys piece isn't there? I'd love more, but this years diamonds have turned into timber floor boards, a rain water tank and an engine for a landrover. I must admit we'll all get more out of those than a sparkly on my finger!
Obbie - love your Mum's saying. She is right.
I thought that was the end of my collection, but reading everyone elses...
Cookbooks, saddlery of any despription that may (or may not) help me and my horse, jeans (just can't have enough jeans), boots, recipes off this site, dust, old books from when I was a girl, paperwork (but that is enforced by the tax office!) ...
Gee I could think of more and more!
-
CP, my dh thinks along thesame lines about diamonds and flowers, although he says I can have what I want within reason :)
-
My Dh would be in agreement about the flowers. Never been given flowers.
Cookie those cars would need a large storage area!!
I had forgotten about my recipe books, I really need to go through them and get rid of some of the older ones I think. I am fast running out of room.
As far a jewellery goes, I do have quite a few pieces of Rose Gold which I love, some has been passed down through the family and has to be passed on.
Chrissa, that china collection is lovely.
Marie

I love Rose Gold too and have a few pieces including a watch of lovely fine rose gold from my grandmother.
-
Great collections everyone. It's interesting to see what everyone has.
I don't collect anything (although my DH says I collect cake tins and cookbooks).
My DH collects die-cast model cars and buses - there are hundreds of them here displayed in glass cabinets. He loves them. A new bus seems to arrive every couple of weeks or so.
-
Hi All,
I collect vintage electronics, and valve radios. It started when my dad who was a TV tech at the time gave me a valve operated portable radio, which had a 67 1/2 volt battery. Intrigued I found a new 67 1/2 volt battery in the states, (this was before the internet), paid a small fortyune for it, plugged it in and it worked straight away.
My pride and joy is this guy, an AWA Empire State, classic Australian Radio from the late 30's, which at this stage still works (until the analogue frequency is switched off)
This is not my unit but mine is exactly the same
-
You and my step-dad would have a lot to talk about HotmixPRO. He collects and restores vintage radios :-))
-
It's beautiful.
-
i am waiting to see andiesenji's collection ;D
-
Yes, I'm surprised Andie hasn't been on this thread yet as well as it is right up her street! She must have a phenomonal collection.
-
I didn't think I collected anything but then I opened my Tupperware drawer! I always know my freezer must be getting empty when I can't fit any more containers in that drawer. I also have a problem with books (not recipe ones) - I just can't bring myself to get rid of a book I really enjoyed, even if I'll never get around to reading it again. And then there's the collection of books which I intend to read "one day".
Oh and then there's the wine collection, although that's on a pretty high rotation 😃
-
After reading deedubs post I realise I do have a collection, it is of books too. I can't resist when an author I read brings out a new book. I just have to buy it. I have cupboards full of books and am now stacking them on the floor of my wardrobe. Thank goodness for the ereader, no one can see how many I have on there. DD is also into books and reads prolifically and has a book blog. She is sent books from publishers to review, so I get to share in hers too.
Sadly since I have had the ipad :'( :'( :'( :'( my reading time has reduced somewhat. I can not time manage cooking, forum, ipad, reading and some cleaning very well.
-
do silicone muffin moulds count as a collection? :-)) I see cute ones and HAVE to have them!
And recipe books.
And cute gadgets like sndwich cutters, hard boiled egg shapers, etc for making food just that tiny bit cuter.
-
Astarra, I don't think I have ever seen a hard boiled egg shaper? Do you think you would be able to post a photo please?
-
mcmich - I've never heard of them either and had a quick look at google . . . there are plenty of sites for them but check this one out . . .

Wow GF, have never seen them before. Very attractive though. Thanx for the link.
-
Lady bugs have do for a lifetime (literally). Cookbooks. Wool.
-
This thread just gets better and better. Lady Bugs ??? ??? Photos?
-
I have a gadget that makes square boiled eggs. I found it in Singapore. I actually hope to remember to give it to Judy on the retreat for her grandson.
-
Ooh ahh, that will be wonderful Cookie. I hope you don't forget it either ;D :-*
-
Miss 11 collects snow domes.
She has quite a collection so far!
Miss 9 collects rubbers/erasers.
There maybe a few missing when I vacuum though.
I collect/hoard cookbooks, platters, cookware, kitchen gadgets, kitchen appliances......Get the picture??? :-)) :-))
I have seen the 40 bags in 40 days thread which I have told my family we are starting this weekend.
We may fill more than that :-))

Yep!!!
;D ;D ;D
-
Been thinking about this one and realize that I collect books, cookbooks, shoes, bags and perfume.
Also grandchildren as we have 10 and one on the way!!!!! :o
-
There's not much you can do to stop collecting the last one on your list Mama Fergie ;D
-
Ha ha Judy that is one collection that is definitely out with my control ;D
-
Those ones look a little different to mine gf.... but thanks anyway! :)
The ones I have you boil the egg first, then take the shell off and put it into the mould while it is still hot.... will post a pic of the finished product next time I do them - or see if by any chance I already have one on the computer....
Ok the teddy egg is the finished pic - but I just found that pic online not mine. :)
And the pic of the gadgets is not all I have, but gives the idea. :)
-
Mama Fergie I have 10 as well! You are winning though as we don't have anymore on the way...... Well not that I have been told about!
-
Astarra that lunchbox looks absolutely delightful! When they take off the lid what kid wouldn't want to eat everything you have so beautifully and thoughtfully prepared :-*
-
I like the look of those too astarra. I want some grand children so I can make cute things like that.
Won't be holding my breath though.
-
Jude you never know what's around the corner. We didnt expect to have 10, well maybe when we were older but I wouldn't be without any of them as they enrich our lives. We have 7 girls and 3 boys so maybe number 11 will balance it a little bit but will have to wait till new year to find out. Due January 3rd.
mcmich your time will come. We got our first one a lot sooner than we expected followed by number 2 exactly one year later. They are 17 and 16 now and lovely girls.
-
Snap Mama Fergie! 7 granddaughters and 3 grandsons here too. And I am Mama to them :). We are pretty youngish as far as grandparents go too.
-
I am Nana to all of them but Mama is great as it sounds young. I didn't want to be a 'granny' or 'grandma' as it sounded old especially when we had our 1st granddaughter. Girls seem to be dominant in both your family and mine. How many children do you have. We have 2 sons and 2 daughters in the order boy, girl, boy, girl. ;D
-
Daughter (6 children - 4 girls, 2 boys), son (3 children - 2 girls, 1 boy), daughter (1 daughter). They are all adorable - of course!
-
Son ( 4 children 3 girls 1 boy ) daughter ( 2 children 1 girl 1 boy ) son ( 1 child baby girl) daughter ( 3 children 2 girls 1 boy and unknown sex on the way due early January) . Yes all adorable and very busy when they all come for dinner!!! :D but wouldn't have it any other way. They all live within 15 minutes of each other and ourselves. Never a dull moment here :)
-
Oh so lovely! We all live nearby too.... Very handy for them to have babysitters on the doorstep! We also have a family business and work together - well depending on who is available. Our youngest and i job share PA for DH, when she works i am baby sitting for her . I know what you mean about the family dinners! We host Sunday lunch here each week for the whole family and just love it, though sometimes I pray for a sunshiny day so they can at least get out and run around. But we all get on well and enjoy our food and wine and laughter and catch up. It's lovely to see all the cousins together.... Little girls holding hands and walking aound together, little boys getting together and the baby, Chalotte (nearly 8 months old), the centre of attention - Its a lovely and special time.
-
I'm Nanny to 2 beautiful grandchildren, 1 granddaughter and 1 grandson to my wonderful son and his gorgeousl wife. OMG what a collection there is, diamonds, vintage cars, Jude what beautiful vintage glasses, would be happy to drink wine out of them any day. Chrissa, agree with you about all the dusting, and EGG SHAPERS, never heard of them but wow, what a way to cook eggs. It all makes my not really a collection of something old, eg ice chests that i like to restore and treddle sowing machine tables, a bit ho hum. but i also have a spare room full of cardmaking and sewing stuff, that I can't get rid of, and which I love to spend time in with my greanddaughter teaching all the crafty stuff, so I guess it is called collecting.
-
Ooooooh YES! Love the crafty stuff! Being a granny gives permission to have all that lovely crafty stuff for the grandchildren. Especially the girls love it. They are always. "Mama, can we go into the craft room...". I have a stamp making machine I have to learn how to work cos I told DH it was for the grandchildren........ They love making cards too.
-
OMG Jude a stamp making machine, would love one. Yes I love to use it as an escape when my granddaughter is over to dissapear into the craft room with her.
-
Here is just a tiny portion of my step-dad's radion collection... :-))
-
i love them Amy, each one so unique and beautiful. I have a modern home now and I class them as "dust collectors", but still does not stop me from appreciating them in other peoples collections.
-
I will tell my step-dad how much you love them CP :) He will appreciate it very much since he puts so much hard work into restoring them.
There another hundred or so around the place if you want to see anymore... :-))
-
I have a small collection of shaving implements. Razors, brushes, a curved ladies underarm razor and I hove some old advertisements for Gillette razor blades.
DW collects old/antique hand embroidered doilies, table clothes etc. She sees it as an important from of expression from women of past generations.
We also collect Wembley Ware, vases mostly but we have other pieces. The only Wembley Ware we do not collect is the ash trays.
-
ohhhh how l would love a craft room , atm l have the corner of our bedroom and some wardropes for my craft stuff
l like to sew ,have heaps of fabric , scrapbook ,cardmaking , so have heaps of paper ect
l like the idea of the stamping machine jude it sounds good , wooden stamps take up so much room
beading ,and lots of other craft bits bits to many to think about
l also have collections of australian used stamps , world coins and notes , seawashed glass, rocks and stones , seashells , dried seaweed , framed butterflies , feathers , leaves and dried \pressed flowers , tiles for mosic ,collection of stuff which meant something to my mother , collection of stuff which other people have made me , cookie cutters , craft books and a small collection of cook books
-
Hi Dashing. I've seen wembley ware while looking for pieces for my collection. The luster type are beautiful.
-
Here's the link for the stamp maker http://www.makingstamps.com.au/
It's supposed to be quite easy and I'm thinking I'll let the kids design some themselves, then scan into computer as you have to print a negative to put in the stamp maker. I bought it six months ago so some stamps really need to start appearing. ....
-
Jude your family sounds just like mine. :) We also have a family business and both my girls work there as well as my eldest son and one of my sons-in-law. We do some babysitting and some of the school runs too. The family brunches or dinners are always fun, nice food, wine and lots of laughter. Our youngest granddaughter Sophie is also 6months old and adorable.
-
Just a gentle reminder warning to everyone that it is best to be careful when clicking on links that are unknown to you.
As you can see here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=338.0) it is an ongoing problem we have. I guess it is best to be wary. I have the naughty habit of clicking on all sorts of things, so please be warned.
-
I have collected Happy Meal toys since I was a kid. I've had to limit what I bring home now because thee are just so many of them.
I also has a collection of Rottweiler stuff, figurines, soft toys, etc.
And some Coca cola stuff.
Hubby collects caps and key rings. The caps are always in expansion mode although thankfully most of them are given to him.
Jadey :)

It's nice to be able to chat about family and week day work together. And yes we all work together as a family too, school runs etc. no one misses out as the "Boss" is always on side. LOL!
-
Oooops! Did I do a naughty thing with the link?..... My apologies to the max! Was not thinking. Sooo sorry. Please feel free to remove link.
-
We did have a report from a member that it had caused them problems Jude59. Has it caused you any problems?
-
No. It just goes straight through to Making Stamps!
-
No problems here either . . just went straight to the site . . .
-
No problems here, the link went straight to the site.
-
I don't think the problem was with going to the site, it was with shutting down her computer after going to this site. If no-one else has had a problem then perhaps it was a coincidence but one can never be too careful.
-
Oh! Sorry to hear that happened :(
-
I'm glad everyone else was ok. Yes as Judy said the member had trouble. Thank goodness all else was ok.
-
the other night when l went to check out the link l was block and was unable to view the site to see the stamp machine
but tonight it went staight through no problems at all

Over the years I have collected different things. First teaspoons from when we travelled. Not very expensive. Then egg cups. Not very big and fit into travel bag. As a special treat , I let the GC choose one each to take home. But always cooking books. I can not part with any. My main collection is silver. Not fashionable as most people don't have time to clean it. I just love it. Like CP , our house is very modern . It has lots of glass and straight lines, but we have managed to fill it with antiques and Persian carpets. Not a collection but things we like.
I love the different collections mentioned here. Love the things for shaping eggs. Might have to get some of these for the GC. Might have to start a new collection ;D
Thought I would start a collection of Lalique, but only like the old designs, so gave up on this.
Hard to say what is a collection and what is accumulation. Are my many bread tins a collection?
-
They sure are Chookie ;D I liked to pick up the odd mug or two during our travels - something useful, get used, get broken and you can never have enough (especially when you find they are all in the dishwasher). I think these were my favourite craze over the years.
-
My lizard collection grew by one last night. I don't know if I mentioned my lizards ( too lazy to go back and look). I have one from N Z, one from Fontaine de Vaucluse and now a friend gave me one she brought back for me from South Africa. They are very cute and from now on I'm going to come back frm my travels with more lizards. I love collections.

I like modern and antique mixed together.
My home isn't ultra modern but I have a mix of modern furniture and antique pieces. I use to collect old sets of scales. I only have a few sets now.
-
I seem to be collecting aches and pains at the moment. Does that count?
-
I seem to be collecting aches and pains at the moment. Does that count?
Yep, I think so :-)) But hopefully it isn't a long lasting collection!
-
Hi I collect bonsais. I did have quite a few until DD19 didn't water them when I was away! I now have about 12 some purchased mature and others made from small plants then trained. I'm really not a Gardner, but the art and creativity in bonsai I find interesting.
-
HI Dash, hope you are feeling better, and those aches go away.
-
Thanks Robyn. I feel fine just get the odd aches and pains from exercising. I will have to call my masseuse. He seems to have forgotten me since he came back from holidays.
-
I hope you have sorted out your masseuse Dash ;)
I just wanted to post a couple of photos. The first one is just a shot of one of the containers I keep my coins in. Thats probably about one third of my collection. The second photo is of three of my most special coins. The Lord's Prayer is printed on one, the British National Anthem on another, and I can't read the third until I get a microscope :-))
I have been trying to take some other photos but I can't get clear shots :-\
-
Amy, I think the coin with three circles on it is the Lord's Prayer as well. Not sure if the same on every circle as my iPad keeps spinning the picture around when I try to rotate it
-
Wow Bonsai, I'm impressed that you could have a guess at that coin just by looking at the photo :o
-
I can enlarge the photo on the iPad - my microscopic vision went years ago!
-
Oh... lol :-)) ;D
-
It looks like you have an interesting coin collection Amy. :) My uncle used to collect coins and stamps. I think stamps were his real passion.
-
Thank you Dash :) I have coins from many different places, and even though I bought a coin encyclopaedia I still haven't figured out where all of them are from :-)) A while ago I started a catalogue to keep track of them all, but I have so many. I don't think I got past the first 50.
We have a few stamps, but I love coins more :D
-
they do look like special one amy , l have not seen them before .
it looks like a interesting collection
my son and l collect whole wide and australian coins and low currency notes
and yes its hard to try and work out where some are from
-
Dash If you were closer I would give you a massage. ( I am a Remedial massage therapist) but have a irrigation shop.. :)
'
Amy coins look great.
-
Robyn I wish you wee closer too. Finding a good massage therapist is difficult. I like the one I use. He used to be a masseur for the Kookaburra's many years ago. He does a good job, but is always telling me off for not relaxing.
-
Ah, then you definitely need a female masseuse Dash.
-
When I massage, most of my clients are guys, as I love doing a deep tissue massage, and not a light relaxing one.
I had a massage 3 weeks ago, Bliss. :)
-
I usually get a deep tissue sports massage. Mostly my legs and gluts. Sometimes when I am sore and he starts working deeply into a muscle I tense. It is a natural reaction. He usually then says something like It is your money and if you don;t relax you don't get the full benefit.
-
I have made an appointment to have a half hour massage on my legs...... I'm a bit scared :-))
-
Don't be scared Amy. A good deep tissue massage might hurt a little while you are having it but is feels amazing the next day.
-
I'll keep that in mind while I'm cringing on the massage table ;D
