Title: Dinner Spinners
Post by: Halex on November 19, 2011, 11:25:09 pm
Just received this on friday, thank you Bedlam.

As anyone made any recipes yet?

Dulse sea vegetable flakes?!?!? What are these and where can you buy them. It seems a lot of recipes need the umami paste so i need to buy the flakes.

Would be interested which recipes young children enjoyed

Thanks
Hally :)

Hally, just try different health food shops - not everyone stocks it apparently but it is available and there are plenty of Perthites who have been to Tenina's classes who have bought and made this paste so they will head you in the right direction no doubt.

Hally if you are unable to locate any locally.  I've ordered some from here in readiness.  ;D

Hally, mine is called Sea Power (certified Organic Dulse Flakes) I bought it at Healthy Life Carine, think they have a store at Willetton. Might be worth a phone call, to see if they stock it.

Just saw a warning on the back of the packet: that is may contain trace amounts of crustacean shellfish,

My friend is allergic to prawns I won't be able to give her anything made with Umami paste.

For those that can't use dulse flakes like me (DH very allergic to shellfish!!  :-))) you can use wakame.

I didn't even check the packet, had no idea (certainly didn't think about it!!), was just idly reading the info on the back when I saw it, luckily it was before I opened it!!

Gave it away to a friend and used the wakame  - have been using that for ages with my salt so know it is ok :)

Good good, I'll order in a couple of days then once we've swapped into the new month Credit Card wise. (Its okay, CC auto pays off the full amount from bank account, but delaying payment 30 days is always useful)

Thanks Nay.  Are these all new recipes Tenina or are some recipes those you've developed and are already in other books.  I seem to recognise the 5 spice sweet and sour meatballs as I did a recipe from the MOTM book with that name.  Liking that list though.

I think mostly new, I did try and bring all new, but there may be a few tweaked versions…the main thing is, they all work. Triple tested! hahaha
I am using the Dinner Spinner myself believe it or not. I think of it as your friend in the kitchen! (shop, handbag, whatever!) SO easy to use and I love it myself…hilarious. I am usually trying something new so I can blog about it, but suddenly, I am thinking, Wednesday is Shredded Chicken Salad day….forever!

Hi Tenina.
I tried to order your book & pay with PayPal, but after going through most of the process, it states that it doesn't deliver to my address. I'm in SA, & it had said that the delivery would be $4. I tried to pay twice, so I hope I haven't actually paid anything!
Thanks, Sue

Any perthites bought wakame?

Hally, this one is close and I saw the wakame flakes there yesterday when I bought the dulse flakes. They seem to have everything and is now my shop of choice if I need something organic or different. The lady who owns it is nice and very helpful.
http://www.preciousorganics.com.au/
I am also allergic to shellfish but only if I actually eat them. I am ok with oyster sauce and can eat fried rice if I pick the prawns out. My father in law was so allergic he couldn't even eat the fried rice after the prawns were picked out.

I'm still yet to receive my thermie but the umami paste is the very first thing I want to make.  I've been to a couple of health food shops but couldn't find dulse flakes - I did find wakame at the local asian grocer (thanks faffa for the recommendation!) so I have a packet of that if my thermie arrives before I find the flakes.

I think I will be purchasing Dinner Spinners very shortly.  Tenina - you have the best collection of thermomix recipes!

Oh Tenina, what a book/leaflet or whatever :D

Last night we had the Almond Chicken Curry with Yoghurt. Another hit. It was ever so nice. As there is only 3 of us I halved the recipe. I served it with rice, corn, broccoli and carrot. We then had some pappadums to help slurp the extra sauce.
Thanks again for another winner. :-*

YAY…so happy to hear that, it does make a truckload, but easily adapted as you did.
Good news is folks, we have it from printer that we should have new Dinner Spinner stock available on Monday 12th December…so order fast and you will get them in time for Christmas. I think they will get snapped up and we only have 400 this time! (until the new year!!)

I am now working on another project…so it will never stop, order up big! hahahaha :D

Judy when the polenta is set and cold you can cut it into pieces and grill them to go with another meal. I made polenta french fries once and they weren't too bad.

I love the dinner spinner book. So far I have made the Umami Paste (Sea flakes from Health food shop at Melville shopping Centre), Slow Cooked Pork Chilli (I used 1 fresh chilli, children loved it but washed it down with water), Almond Chicken Curry with Yoghurt - children raved but still a bit spicy, Speck & Salad Pizza. The whole family + visiting childen have LOVED every recipe. Can't recommend enough!  :)

Hoping to sell out again, if ordered this week, we do a 1/2 day turnaround so you should get them by Christmas though the 13th is the last day that AUssie post are guaranteeing pre Christmas delivery…so get in quick all!

Tonight I made the Five-spice sweet & sour meatballs, except mine disintergrated in the bowl, all except for 1  :-)).  Didn't matter because it tasted good and it looked like this is how it's supposed to look like anyway  ;D

I only left a few seeds in the chilli, but for some reason it was quite hot today, so have made a note for myself to completely deseed next time.  There were a couple more little tweaks to suit our tastes, but was thoroughly enjoyed.  :D

Tenina, yes I did cook the balls in the oven first, they were quite firm when I put them in the bowl.  I think it may be because I only formed small balls, not a fan of big balls  ;D I think they just couldn't handle the  moving around in the bowl.  No matter it still tasted great, I think next time I will try keeping them warm from the oven and  just add them to the cooked capsicums and sauce at the end of cooking and combine.  They should def stay together then.  :)

Thanks for your nice comments girls.  :D

Tenina, can you tell me if the 'dinner spinner' recipes are in the new book? Or in addition to? I've ordered Dinner Spinners for a friend but thought I'd wait and get the other book for myself when it comes out. Should I get both?
Can't wait until Saturday when I'm giving my friend her copy... bet she'll be thrilled!

Hi Deedub, no repeats from Dinner Spinner in the big book…

And not sure what happened with the breaking up of the meatballs, did you cook them in oven as directed first? Pic is still gorgeous JulieO... ;D ;D

Thanks Tenina, I definitely want those Dinner Spinner recipes so I'll get both.

Today I made the Pesto Chicken Pinwheels.  I did cheat a little, only because I had some basil pesto made already in the fridge.  I used that up and followed the rest of the recipe.

Another enjoyable meal and the baked potato went really well with this as well as a dollop of my capsicum relish.  :)

My Dinner Spinner parcel arrived this week and yesterday we had double recipes of Feta Tart and Sweet and Sour Meatballs featured in a dinner party for twelve.  Have pics to post as soon as someone in the family can help me upload them.  We had the same meatball disintegration issue mentioned already despite having read about it before cooking and pre-baking till fully sealed and brown.  The second time we made them we put the capsicum in underneath the rissoles and that did seem to protect them a bit.  The Vodka Feta Tart was amazingly good.  We served it as an entree and a double recipe was demolished. Very popular with men and women, young and old - delicious, different, attractive and very easy finger food.

Our internet went down wed, hope to have it up and running before xmas. Have a Sim card in the ipad but it seems touch & go whether it works or not.

I would be happy to translate if you need me to and its something you want to pursue...I will end up translating some of them anyway due to friends probably asking me for the recipes lol...I know alot of my girlfriends get disappointed when they hear of applications coming out and them only being in english...are the ingredients all fairly 'easy to obtain' ingredients??

If you did a hard copy in French also you would be the first non Vorwerk Thermomix cookbook on the market here... ;D

That is an interesting idea Kim, and I will discuss it with my marketing manager…we are flat out trying to keepup with the English demand at the moment, but we have toyed with the idea of translation. It is the ingredients that present the biggest issue, as some things are called different names etc, but by and large I think we could work it out with the excellent help from here! hahaha

Looking forward to using it. The dinner spinner a great size to take away.

The only thing with using the tm out of the house, you really need to plan to make sure you have all the ingredients with you, not just dinner spinners any tm recipe.

Made the umami paste before we left so have that in the fridge. Trying the tuscan beef stew tomorrow, but prob with rice as thats what i have here.

Tennis, with the apps wil all the recipes from the book end up being on there or are they different recipes? I much prefer purchasing ebooks  and unlike a lot of people happy  to pay similar price for cookbooks wether they are hards copies or ebooks. I'm hoping the dinner spinners app is only selected recipes as I've already purchased the actual book.

Absolutely loved the chicken salad with Vietnamese dressing!

The flavours of the dressing left a lovely after-taste.  Must admit I only added a few drops of fish sauce as I'm not a big fan, but it turned out perfect.  This would make a lovely salad even without the chicken.

I can see me making this one often.   :D

Hi there, as you may know, most books are fast becoming apps shortly after, so yes all the recipes and a few extra are on the app. It is only the price of a coffee and a slice of cake (cheap slice of cake at that) so I guess you will have to decide if the convenience is worth that. There is a Lite version due out soon which is free but only has a few recipes in it, so you can try it out and see if you find the app of value…
For me to keep doing what I do, (although I can honestly say I would do it for the love of it), I must pay the bills somehow, so that is why there will be more books, more apps and yes, the BIG book out in January…so hoping you will continue to keep spreading the word and buying the stuff I produce so that it will be possible. Otherwise, I may have to go get a real job! (YIKES!)

 ;D ;D

hally when I first started putting chili in things I would always halve (so much easier to spice up than spice down). nowadays family have been able to have the full thing, although if I think it could be too much I make sure that the chilli's have been de-seeded and are the bigger ones as compared to the smaller hotter ones.

Not available for ipad separately yet; just the same app, but bigger…the ipad version will be released next year based on interest! hahaha (I think we have the interest part sorted, its the development part we need to get on with!)

Hally, sorry about the heat in everything, I have grown up kids with grown up palates now (after living with me all these years!) and so I guess I can be a little heavy handed, but just cut, reduce, change as you see fit!
Hope everyone has recovered from chillies and pepper at your house! :D

I haven't made anything from the book, I need to go shopping (about 60kms away) as the local little store doesn't have the ingredients I need. I have flipped through the book and thought "DS7 wont eat most of this" so I will prepare some meals for him I can freeze and then cook the Dinner Spinner meals for DH and I.

Yum, yum, yum.  Working my way through Dinner Spinners - have to start with those that don't need Umami Paste as I have no dulse atm.  Last night we had Chick Pea and Cashew Curry - beautiful, except with four adults eating, it didn't go very far.  Note for future - Side dishes important for that one.  Feta Tart we have made twice and there again it disappeared so quickly I barely got to try it.  SS Meatballs were fantastic and will definitely be made regularly at our place.  No problem with portion size with that one - plenty!  Only stress so far for us has been the loss of one of the pages - couldn't adjust to the spinner being so darn tight and tore it out in my excitement!  I am not admitting, Tenina, but it *may* have been your special vodka-fueled Feta Tart that I was over-enthusiastic about.

Tenina, the flavours are fantastic, just too hot for ds, dh loved the tuscan beef, so next batch will make milder, split in half then add more pepper and chilli to his half, so hopefully we will all be happy. Just have to learn to adjust the heat for us all.

Dizzygirl, gosh you are far away from the shops. I think you could adjust some recipes, the tuscan beef the flavour is great, dont add the pepper, remove a portion for ds then add the pepper to the rest. My ds liked the flavour but niot the pepper, just about playing around with it. We got 5 serves from this.

Love the app Tenina, its great for  those days when I forgot the dinner spinner book when I go shopping, always have my phone. DW and I ha the Speck and Salad Pizza for dinner tonight.  I am a traditionalist when it comes to pizza so had some reservations however the combination of flavors with the Jarlsberg, Dijon mustard and bacon (I used diced bacon from the deli counter at Coles because I couldn't get speck in town.) really complimented each other.

DW felt it was a little to 'oniony' for her so next time I will put less escahlots on her pizza.

The salad on top added another dimension adding texture not usually associated with pizza.

Here's a picture of what I've done to my Dinner Spinner recipes (thanks to Ceejays idea with her laminated recipes) - it is so much easier to flip over now with the O-ring replacing the plastic screw. You need an O-ring that opens completely to get the cards on successfully.
