Very good point, Gert - will see what impact it has on our power bill.
we just went for the basic single tap, as we have good hot and cold water pressure, and also our cold water is lovely - we don't need the filter type ones. Luckily DH could do the installation - all the little plumbing bits added up anyway though. The biggest extra for us was having to get the concrete cutter guy round to cut a hole in our beautiful granite bench! (That was pretty nerve-wracking...and loud)
DS loves it too and now makes a pretty good tea or coffee - his first cup of tea though...he thought tea leaves were like instant coffee - add and stir. Was a bit of a nasty surprise for DH when he took his first mouthful! lol

Yikes, I am melting just thinking about your temperatures! 21 today here, which is fine by me - although it is getting a little breezy.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! I have been so grateful again for the tmx during my recovery - makes things so much easier. Trying a new curry tonight with rice (and store bought naan - too long standing to make my own just yet) I was actually a little concerned in the first week or so of my recovery...DH had been using "my" tmx (usually he doesn't get a look in), and it kept coming up with an error message. I suspect he had been putting the bowl back wet. It has stopped doing it, so fingers crossed it is all okay under the hood! Otherwise that would be an expensive consequence of tripping over!

Thanks for the rhubarb suggestions! Actually I have made the rhubarb curd once before but had forgotten all about it - will need to add eggs to the shopping list first, but will make at the end of the week. Pink rhubarb champagne...must look into that one too. Sounds good!
And I will definitely have to make enough to share with mum - I have suggested she takes some stalks or we divide my plant, but I think she'd prefer a couple of small jars of something.

My first baking in a while today - the rhubarb in the garden has gone crazy, and DH did a huge harvest. I used up three measly stalks to make rhubarb coffee cake muffins today - only another dozen or so stalks to go (we also had rhubarb crumble last night). Ironically, my plant was a small bit cut from mum's garden and now hers is not producing!

Hello strangers! It's been a long while since I have posted on the forum, so thought maybe an updated intro would be a good starting point. It's now coming up to three years since I bought my tmx, so the kids are now 8 and about to turn 6. Both are keen cooks - with and without the tmx. I have just had a small break from thermomixing and cooking in general - 8 weeks ago I tripped on a friend's front path and broke my ankle. So after surgery and seven weeks in a cast, I am now in a moon boot and trying to get mobile again. Still about 3 weeks until I expect to be driving again - DH has really had to step up with the school runs and kids activities, and we are all looking forward to getting back to normal (although he is planning to keep doing school runs 1-2 times a week). After my unexpected hiatus I am back on here looking for new inspiration, and revisiting some old favourites. Looking forward to "catching up" with everyone. x

I am so disappointed that some unknown person has raided mum's tree this year! She's been away in hospital a couple of times getting new knees, but that's no excuse!!! Her place was being looked after, and it was only a couple of days each time she was away, but during the second trip (we think) her tree was completely stripped. So no jam, steamed plums or this delicious drink for another year.

The last few weeks I have been cutting back my lists to bring it in under $200! Although last week included some booze for the long weekend, but this week didn't and was still $193.

Took the kids on a train ride into town today to see the Beehive and parliament buildings. The tour was interesting, but the kids found it a little long. I think they preferred the train trips!

I gave it a go and successfully did 500g berries and 250g jam sugar. 35 min at 100 deg, then 10min varoma. Set well, and had it today on homemade crumpets - very nice! I had 5kg to use, and didn't want my TMX tied up with jam-making toooooo long, so thought it was worth giving a bigger batch a try.

I have finally got through the 5kg of blueberries we picked on Monday. We have 2 doz muffins, blueberry and almond tart (from recipe community), and loads of jam. Plus a container of berries in the freezer for future use.

We went blueberry picking today so I have a LOT of berries to get through! Has anyone tried this in bigger batches? Off to hunt down more blueberry recipes now...
