Hi Folks,

It's your AWOL cookbook maker here, slinking back in to the forum, in need of some quick advice.

Due to an incident that shall remain nameless, we are in need of new blades definitely, a new lid probably, and maybe could get by without, but possibly a new bowl as well.

The Thermo would work with just new blades, so that is our immediate concern. As we've been using it 3 or 4 times a day since we got the thing early last year, we're now lost without it, but as of 20 minutes ago, it's now out of action. We called our consultant, but got no answer, so I fear she is away on school holidays.

So, what's the quickest way to get a new set of blades? can you get the blades on their own? I saw a post from 20089 saying a full top set is $395. If you can get the blades on their own, does anyone know the current price? If not, is the full set still $395?

Thanks. Russell.

Chit Chat / Sample Forum recipe cookbook and website - feedback please
« on: April 17, 2010, 02:30:34 am »
Hi All,

Well the first draft of the cookbook website and a sample cookbook is up.

Please go to http://recipes.manyhobbies.com, have a look at the sample cookbook and the comments I've made about it, then come back here and give me your opinions on the whole setup.

I've grabbed random recipe pictures from the forum and Cathy79 provided the text. If anyone has an issue with their information being posted, let me know.

Note my web host is currently "fiddling" with the domain, so performance may be up & down and is supposed to be fixed within a few days.

Thanks.

Russell.

OK let's start off this way with our recipe book collection.

2. Soups

3. Main Dishes

4. Seafood & Fish

5. Vegetarian

6. Desserts

7. Cakes

8. Babies & kids

9. Diet

10. Bread

11. Special Diet

12. Drinks

I propose the Top 30-50 will go into the first book, depending on votes.

A continually (i.e. as I get the time) updated version of the book will be published initially at http://recipes.manyhobbies.com once I finalise the site setup (and my web host gets their bugs sorted  :'(). I'll post separately when the first version is up.

Vote away  ;D

Chit Chat / Recipe compilation idea - feedback needed
« on: April 14, 2010, 03:22:30 am »
Hi All,

While I'm awaiting a PM reply from Master Moderator on the idea, I'll throw it out here for you guys to comment on anyway. The caveat is that if MM is already designing something to do this, then that would be the preferred option.

I was wondering what people think of the idea of collating all of the forum recipes into another format for 1) ease of reference and 2) backup purposes.

What I was thinking of is either collecting them all into a series of recipe "books" (either in database form or just simple PDF documents) or simply republishing them into a web site such as a recipe-only blog site.

The advantage of a blog site is the sorting, grouping and searching that can be done. This forum already provides most of this, but there is lots of extra "stuff" you have to wade through to find just the recipe info, and the advantage of a separate blog site is as a backup in case the forum goes down.

The advantages of "books" is offline readability. I still enjoy sitting down and browsing through a good paper book as opposed to staring at a glowing screen. While the new iPad from Apple may be a step towards killing paper books, i think wide adoption is still a little way off. The books could be collated on a category basis - Breads, Deserts, Mains etc, and quarterly updates or refreshes published with amendments and new additions. This could be presented back here on the forum and/or copies to a separate site as well.

Most of the needed info is here already, but I'd think a photo of each recipe is needed, so may need help from everyone is getting pictures of the made up dishes. I'd also propose a fixed recipe posting format to facilitate easy inclusion of future recipes.

Obviously there is a heck of a lot of work in doing this, and I'm too A.D.D. myself (and have too many irons in other fires competing for my time) to complete all the data entry myself probably, but if people were interested, I could start on the concepts and throw some samples out for people to comment on, but can't make any guarantees of completion.

What do you all think? Worth the effort? Comments please.

Chit Chat / Do you know what's in your Breadcrumbs?
« on: April 12, 2010, 04:38:45 am »
Hey All,

Well we'd already decided to make our own breadcrumbs for our FAILSAFE diet anyway, but in cleaning out our freezer of non-FAILSAFE foods, we read the label on the back of a packet of Homebrand "Breadcrumbs". Rather than transcribe the extensive list of ingredients here, go checkout the photo on Damaris's blog http://candidcountrylife.blogspot.com/2010/04/our-new-bimby-has-arrived.html.

Suffice to say, when I saw "Tuna Oil" and "Fish Gelatine" I decided I'm never having store bought breadcrumbs again (not a seafood fan). It looks like they just scrape all the leftovers off the bakers floor and stick it all in a bag!

Hey All,

Doing our first lot of mashed potato. Following the EDC recipe exactly. 5 minutes into cooking, and the boiling milk is spitting out out the top of the TMX. Should we leave the measuring cup off while it's cooking, or something else? Taking the cup out seems to be helping, but still kind of like a lava pool bubbling out the hole.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Russell.

Chit Chat / Woohoo! We're back
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:23:57 pm »
Yeah the forum is back up. Wouldn't you know it, it goes down on the day our Bimby arrives. I've had to wait a whole sleep to tell everyone!

I wonder should we madly copy all the forum recipes? :)

Hey All,

So what kitchen utensils do people usually use with their Thermomix that don't come supplied.

For example, I've bought a bread tin since we're hoping to move away from the Breadmaker, and I see talk of the supplied Spatula maybe not being ideal to get stuff out of the bowl. Then we don't currently keep ice cubes, so I guess some ice cube trays would be good. Any particular type on those?

So, please post your list of useful accessories for using with the TMX.

Thanks. Russell.

Chit Chat / The cheque is in the mail!!
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:57:28 am »
Well we've gone an done it now. We've ordered a Thermomix :)

I think our consultant has just made her easiest sale ever.

Do we get some sort of record for going from "never heard of it" to "bought one" in less than a week, and without even seeing the thing?!  ;D

Chit Chat / Thermoserver? Please Explain?
« on: March 29, 2010, 06:10:44 am »
I keep seeing references to the Thermoserver without much explanation. A quick Google tells me it's an insulated bowl. Can anyone elaborate more on the how & why?

Thanks. Russell.

Chit Chat / Spelt grain availability in Aus?
« on: March 27, 2010, 10:38:17 pm »
Hi All,

Been looking through some recipes and I'm wondering where people get their Spelt grain from, especially in SE Qld? The one place I found in Melbourne was about $92 for 20Kg - yikes!

Chit Chat / Two weeks to demo - how do I pass the time?
« on: March 27, 2010, 09:40:52 am »
Hey All,

Well we're having a demo at our place on Saturday 10th April it seems. Two weeks away. Man, what am I supposed to do until then?

Does anyone have any suggestions for stuff you should checkout specifically during the demo? Or will it all be self explanatory? What are the things you thought of after the demo that you thought you should ask?

Given there seems to be a dearth of demo's in the southern downs region, anyone who want to to come to our place at Maryvale, 30Km east of Warwick, is welcome to come along.

I guess the big question is whether we try and get her to bring one with straight away, or wait  :P

Introduce Yourself / Greetings from Southern Queensland
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:23:32 am »
Hi All,

My name's Russell. Let me start off by saying our family are not yet Thermomix owners.

We have a son with Aspires & ADHD and want to try the FAILSAFE diet to see if food intolerance may be a contributing factor. We've known about the diet for years, but the difficulty of spending so much time on preparation in the kitchen has given us excuse not to try it. While browsing around the Fed Up website, I found a reference to someone else doing the diet using a Thermomix, and how much easier it made it for them. Well, this was about 3 days ago, and I'd never heard of a Thermomix.

Since then, I've been doing lots and lots of reading, and I must say, I'm impressed. Even without having had a demo, I'm practically sold. It's just that one minor sticking point about whether the money is better spent elsewhere or not. The fact I've signed up here and started contributing I think will give some money of my indication on that, but we do still want a demo. We've contacted Thermomix through the web site about having a demo, but haven't heard back from anyone yet.

If it works as well as it seems for everyone else, I think it will be a godsend in more than just meal preparations for us. If we can identify any food intolerance in our son with this diet, and stop the years of stress and heartache we've been going through, any amount of money is worth it. Before seeing what the Thermomix can do to simplify preparing food from raw ingredients to finished products, so quickly and with minimal mess, I would still only be thinking about attempting the diet. Instead I've ordered the Fed Up book and the FAILSAFE cookbook, and it's just the final decision on the Thermomix left to go.

In the meantime, I'll lurk here and enjoy looking at some of the scrumptious recipes you're all preparing, and gathering whatever other info I can on the Bimby :)

Russell.
