Chit Chat / My house and children are filthy!
« on: August 07, 2010, 01:11:32 pm »
Yep, the house is a tip and the children are looking less than well cared for but that's ok........
because 10 days into owning a TMX, we are SO WELL FED!  My hubby commented today that it was a good day for food - 4 meals from Theo the Thermie.  Now, if I can just leave the TMX alone for long enough to find the bottom of the washing pile, find the carpet under the piles of toys and clothes and maybe even find some time for some personal hygeine!  I have a severe lack of interest in anything domestic other than what can be done in the TMX!  When will it start giving me more free time?!  :)
I am rather impressed with my efforts over the last 10 days.  It goes something like this......

Smoothies most days
Porridge (haven't quite perfected it the way we like porridge yet)
Concentrated vegie stock
Playdough
Tapioca breakfast
Chocolate fudge
Coconut/chocolate spread
Raw nut butter
Brown rice flour
Ice-cream
Tuna risotto
Beef and guiness stew
Meatballs with tomato sauce
Morrocan lamb
Mayonaise (need to find a better oil - olive oil too strong a flavour for me)
coleslaw
beetroot salad
Red onion relish
Cheese biscuits
Custard
Chocolate coconut balls
Pumpkin soup
Potato and leek soup

I'm sure there is more but but I can't remember it all.

Thanks everyone for your expertise, looking forward to learning lots more!
Susan

Recipe Requests / Re: Ice-cream recipe help needed

Would one, that I have for yogurt, cream and honey,  suit?

I think I am good for the ice-cream in time for his birthday thanks but would love a yoghurt based one when you get a minute to post.
I ended up making the one out of the Everyday cookbook and my goodness, it is SO GOOD!  I used coconut cream and cream for the base, rice syrup as the sweetener and blitzed it 3 times - it is so smooth and tasty, I am so excited to have a delicious and healthy ice-cream.  I have to say, I wasn't convinced that it would taste even close to store bought ice-cream - I was imagining that it would be icy and hard like my previous attempts without a TMX.  Even Mr TMX doubter was impressed with this one.  Now, does anybody have a good recipe for making waffle cones without a waffle iron?  My next challenge........ there is no way I will be game enough to purchase any more kitchen equipment for a long time!   :)

I use the EDC recipe as well and find it great. I usually blitz it at least twice & sometimes 3 times. Yummo

Sorry if this seems obvious, but when you say you blitz it 3 times, do you mean refreezing in between each of those times?
thanks

Recipe Requests / Ice-cream recipe help needed
« on: August 04, 2010, 12:58:16 am »
Good morning everybody
My almost 4 year old is obsessing about ice-cream lately so I think it is time to give it a go in the TMX. (for his birthday)  We don't ever eat ice-cream as we are sugar free but I thought I might relax enough to use some rapadura.  Or some other natural sweetener.
So, can somebody steer me in the direction of an ice-cream recipe which is going to give me a result as close to store bought ice-cream as possible.  Something really creamy and able to be put into a cone would be great.   What is the secret of creamy ice-cream in the TMX? I don't have an ice-cream maker.  Would I get better results with an ice-cream maker?
Any suggestions very appreciated!  thanks!
Susan

I am really glad to hear about all your continuing sentiments for your TMXs.  I am certainly in that early stage of complete obsession with Theo and was hoping it isn't just a holiday fling!   ;)
Cookie, I can already understand the bit about not mentioning it to friends too often - I can envisage lots of eye rolling from friends and family if I keep talking about it constantly!  So nice to be able to come here and chat!

Well I have to say that my first effort of making things up as I went along went very well!  The only problem is that I don't remember what I did!  Mind you, that was about 20 Thermomix experiments ago so it is no wonder I have foggy thermomix brain!  I am in TMX heaven at the moment,  it has only been 1 week and I am wondering how I could possibly be so in love with a kitchen appliance!  My husband is wondering too though with all this yummy food coming out of the kitchen, I am sure I can see the cold attitude towards Theo the Thermomix starting to thaw.  He will have to swallow his pride and admit I was right....... soon...... maybe.....

Thankyou Judy and CreamPuff.  I have printed out all of those recipes you suggested so I guess I will just take bits and pieces from each of them and see what I end up with.  I am clueless about mostly everything to do with TMX at the moment, very new to it - will see what happens!

Hi there
If anybody is pottering around here at the moment, I would love some suggestions for my dinner!  I have some cooked chicken meat that I want to turn into a creamy coconut chicken dish served with rice.
I would love to try it in the TMX but I have no idea where to start without a recipe!

These are the ingredients I want to use -

cooked chicken
some chicken stock or vegie stock concentrate
onion
garlic
coriander
maybe curry ???
cream
coconut cream
butter
flour
Anything else tasty ?????  I might have it.....

I don't have any experience with TMX yet and I was wondering if anybody could suggest a quick guide to the order I need to do it in and what speed, time, temp etc.....

I know, very short notice!!  The freezer and pantry is pretty bare and this is about all I have to cook up.  I could just do it in the pan like I used to but if anybody has a minute, I would love to give the TMX another whirl.
thanks so much!

Chit Chat / Can someone please help me get started?

Hi everyone
I have a TMX on the way and was wondering if anybody could give me a few suggestions for recipes to gain confidence on and get me started.  I am trying to avoid that initial recipe flop I am sure will happen to me!  Hmmm....... is that cheating?   :-))
I just know that I am going to have my sceptical husband peering over my shoulder waiting to jump on my failures so I am trying to make me and the TMX look good!   It took ALOT of pestering to get one!
We are sugar free and refined grain free so I am not sure where to begin.
Any ideas very appreciated!  I am dying to get to the shops and stock up on ingredients!

Hi there, I just joined too and am waiting for my TM to arrive too.  We are not grain free but very limited grains so would love to see what kind of recipes you like in the TM.  Good luck, talk soon.

Introduce Yourself / Hooray! I am now a TM owner!
« on: July 24, 2010, 05:08:18 am »
Hello everybody!  Well at last I am about to join in with the TM fun!  Mine arrives in a few days!  I am SO excited yet a little bit nervous too.  I have deliberated and researched and read this forum over and over again.  And then deliberated some more! And then read some more!  I was getting a bit tired of it all after 6 months of dreaming about TMs so I thought I'd just do it!
I am passionate about healthy eating and whole foods.  I just LOVE Jude Blereaus books on whole food cooking so I was even more keen to get a TM when I found out she loves them too!  I am a little bit nervous that I won't be able to find enough fun recipes to try out as we don't eat any sugar (though we do used limited amounts of unrefined sweeteners) and not much grains.  (no refined grains at all)  But I am looking forward to using the TM to try and make my childrens diet more varied and interesting while still using wholesome ingredients.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!
