Judy, we hope to leave on Tuesday now. We have a family meeting with all the social workers etc as they really want to put her into some form of care as she really can't take care of herself; in many ways. Sadly she is fighting tooth and nail against it. We've been told that they can force her as she is really unsafe on her own. Hopefully it won't come to that. She already hates me and DH as 2 years ago they wanted to put her in care but we spent 2 weeks clearing and cleaning her home. It was a revolting job, the rubbish was over a metre deep on all the floors all through the house. I even learnt not to scream too loud when rats ran over my feet. We filled 9 enormous skip bins with rubbish. She is like those ladies you see on TV with junk and rubbish everywhere.
Hopefully when we're old Judy we will be aware of the impact on the family of us aging. Both my Mum (who thankfully knew she needed to go into care) and Ma-in-law never had any contact with elderly people after about 20 years of age so they possibly aren't aware. 37458

Ma-in laws doing silly things isn't that far from the truth. We had dear friends who were flying to USA. They had a stop in Hawaii where they received a message saying "your mother is very ill, can you return asap". They did this and rushed into the hospital where they found her sitting up in bed. She said "I felt so much better when I heard you were coming home!"
I've known a couple of poor old oldies do that, even my own Mum to a certain extent. She used to say "just pretend you are away dear, take the phone off the hook and no-one will ever know!" You just gotta luv 'em. 37459

I have a feeling that's what will happen. My consultant has retired so I'll have to put them all on to Baf65.

I definitely agree about the garlic rice. It's amazinf that it so easy and tasty.
Judy, I do have the seafood book and will be taking it with me. Last year we caught lots, so this year will probably be a drought. After we've eaten our fill of fresh fish it will be time to try some of the recipes. Ma-in-law had a fall last week and was taken to hospital, then discharged, then she fell the next day (less than 24 hours out of hospital) and is in hospital at the moment. We're hoping like anything she will be put into rehab for a couple of weeks while we're away. Fortunately she's not hurt at all. Just a but crazy!! So we're hoping things get sorted out very soon so we can get away Monday. It's nearly a 1000km drive if we have to come back. We're keeping our fingers crossed. 37461

He looks a clean cut guy, so I am sure he won't fall into the same mistakes his Dad did.; he was still a good footballer.

This sounds lovely. When it is my turn to buy the coffees at Monkey Mia I will have to cheat and make them in the Thermomix.

Thanks Caroline.
I emailed Nico Moretti and had a reply this morning. Here is his reply. Jean, Thanks for you note and I’m glad you enjoyed the class. Unfortunately, with the introduction of my new Thermomix Passion class and with the continued sales of my “Food for Friends” cookbook I would prefer not to include any of the recipes from the cookbook on the forum currently. I'll email Nico Moretti and ask if I may post his recipes.
Judy, we go to Monkey Mia next Monday. I don't take a computer so for 5 weeks I won't be able to get my daily fix on this forum. I'll have lots to read when I come back. We take our van and put a boat on the top of the 4 x 4 and for 5 weeks do little except sit around, talking with some fishing thrown in. I am taking the thermomix though. I hope to try out some steamed fish ideas. 37467

Judy you have been a busy girl. It is a public holiday here today for Anzac day but the shops are open (they were closed on Anzac day!) so daughter and I have been out shopping. She is cooking dinner tonight - Ramen I believe. She loves Asian food.

Recipe Name: Gnocchi
Book Name: Everyday cookbook Tweaking Details I didn't change this recipe at all. I did add the optional egg. I also cooked my potatoes in a saucepan on the hotplates, and then followed the TMX instructions. Review Very tasty, as good as any gnocchi I have made before. I found it great to be able to do all the mixing and kneading in the bowl. One thing I did discover though was that the machine will not knead if the temperature in the bowl is over 60 degrees. Therefore I had to let the mixture cool a bit before I could knead it. Score 4 out of 5 37470

Recipe Name: Arrabiatta Sauce
Book Name: Everyday Cookbook Tweaking Details. I made no changes at all to the recipe this time as it was my first time making it. Next time I will add a little more chilli as we like quite a 'kick'. Review This was very nice over gnocchi. It had just the right amount of 'stickability' to the gnocchi. You could taste the bacon in the sauce. It was easy to make too. Very nice. Score I would give this 5 out of 5 as I'll make it many more times. |
