Thermomix on Masterchef Australia

I was very underwhelmed by the segment.  Although iw as glad to see it was actually used andhe used it for heating something so that it showes it is quite versatile but still was not so ......   not sure what the word would be but...

I looked at the recipe too and thought the whole thing could have been made in the TMX -   :-))shame he didn't, would really have shown it in a great light

I reckon you could make ahead and freeze those cigars for an even quicker, impressive dessert for dinner parties.

I guess it didn't get a huge rave up because that's not what the Masterclass is about. They don't rave up saucepans, stoves and other things they use. I thought it was lucky to get the whole "This is a Thermomix and it does this". The name was there. People can go and look it up and see what it does. On BH&G, it didn't even get named, so most people would have thought it was a futuristic looking blender.

There is a mistake in the recipe on the MasterChef site ( http://www.masterchef.com.au/chocolate-cigars-with-sabayon.htm).  In step 4, where it says "Alternately combine egg yolks and sugar", it really should say "Alternatively, combine egg yolks and sugar", otherwise you would be cooking the sabayon twice! The second part of step 4 is for unfortunate people without a Thermomix.

I too had friends SMSing me to watch. I thought it was good. I liked the simple way it was introduced, as though everyone used a thermomix. Then the fact that you could put all the ingredients in and just leave it and get a perfect result was a good advertisement for the machine.
 Todays paper here, "The Sunday Times," has an article on MC and it says in that the machines , pots, etc that are featured on MC are sought out by viewers. So I wonder if TMX will have an influx of queries. I wonder if people will just go into shops and try and purchase them or actually try the website. It would be interesting to know.

Compared with BH&G shamozzle - I thought MC went really well. The fact that George took the time to introduce it, give it a quick summary and explain what he was doing as he used it was a real credit!

And a big pat on the back to Janine and the other consultants who worked their magic to get it on there! "CLAP" "CLAP" "CLAP"  - Master Moderator - can we get a clapping smiley please......

Congratulations to the team - I thought that it was good, but certainly not a big wrap for the Thermomix.

It will be interesting to see what increase there is in inquiries at HQ after the Herald Sun, West Australian, The Australian and Masterchef promos.

Why didn't he use the butterfly ??

That promotion was also in the Adelaide's Sunday Mail Home supplement so looks like all the states had the same write-up.
Should we use the butterfly if we make the sabayon, Thermomixer?  I wouldn't mind giving it a go when I have some egg yolks leftover, could the rum be substituted with anything else.  I only have white rum in my cupboard.

Hi JD - you get better results - there is a recipe http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=80.0 for a variation of zabaglione - which is effectively the same as sabayon (only Italian).

I found that creaming the egg yolks and sugar first gave a better result and less egg stuck to the base, but you can thorw it all in at the start, then set temp and forget.

Intrepidtrier (on another forum) found this too alcoholic and gave it to the cows !!  So beware and maybe use half orange juice and half grog.

This is based on the UK Thermomix cookbook recipe and the Italian websites, where the butterfly is used for the recipes.

I try to ignore all dessert/creamy sauce/alcohol recipes as I am already big enough, but oooh that zabaglione sounds great!
