Hi Mindmapper - just in case you were wondering (as I am pretty sure you live in the UK) Monkey Mia is a pretty remote dot on the map near the Topic of Capricorn on the west coast of WA. As I recall there were very few facilities there (or at least that was the case when I was there approx. 20 years ago and I don't think it will have changed too much), so it's pretty serious camping out there.

Well said, Frozzie. Knowing that you are going to get good, sensible and CORRECT advice from one point would be an invaluable help to so many people.

What an ingenious clip (well, ingenious to me as I haven't seen this 'double ended' version before). Have you thought of using the type of male / female nylon or plastic clip you see a lot on rucksacks these days (you know the type that you slide one half into the other and it clicks into place) - or perhaps velcro?
Good tip about the tea towel - my apron tie isn't long enough to go right around twice - I think I'll have to lengthen it. I always wondered how the TV chefs kept their tea towels in place. Mine always fell out. Isn't it great how these brilliant small ideas, although obvious, are often amongst the most useful.

Thank you, that is good advice, Mindmapper, I must start clearing out all my old plastic containers - not that they are particularly bad, but I am becoming more and more aware of the possible disadvantages of relying so much on plastic. I have already started replacing a lot of my plastic storage containers with glass jars.
I recall reading a comment (somewhere on this forum I think) from someone who said that the silicone type molds left a 'plasticy' taste in the mouth after they had been used and re-used for a while - what is the current thinking on these silicone tools that are now becoming more common?

... what's a NOR or SOR? Whatever you are, Deonie, welcome and we all know exactly how you are feeling. Have a great time with your TMX.

What luxuries you all take with you - when we go camping we go on our motor bike - the bare essentials only with the bulk of the gear carried being for the bike (especially if we are going a long way).

WOW - what a phenomenal number of posts / catching up you have done today. I'm surprised your fingers haven't cramped up on you.
It's obvious you have been sorely missed and everyone is pleased to have you back up and running again.

I made these again over the weekend and used a spiral scoop (sorry, useless explanation, I think it's original purpose would have been to remove small cooked or fried items from the wok or pot) which I purchased from one of the local Chinese shops, it made this a whole lot easier than any method I have used in the past. Thanks for the inspiration to try this method everyone.

I once heard the saying, referring to the different numbers printed on many, if not most, plastic containers
"4, 5, 1, 2 [are OK] All the rest are bad for you"
I put the [are OK] in brackets as the rhyme is not clear without any explanation, but it is easier to remember it without the [are OK] insert - if that makes sense.

Yes, my TMX constantly impresses me, too. I am still wary of making things like mayonnaise, pastry, bechamel, etc. and I don't know why because they ALWAYS come out perfectly (they are all recipes I have never had success with in the past) - obviously a psychological hurdle I've got to get over!

Great to see you back on line - I couldn't believe it when I saw there were so many pages of unread posts since I was last in the forum yesterday morning and it seems that you are the one behind them, you certainly seem to be catching up on a huge backlog!
Looking forward to reading all your responses.

JD, my mum also used to call these mock whitebait, not sure where that came from either. I had forgotten all about that until I read your post.
