Steaming Time in the Varoma

Hi I'm Jenny and using my thermomix to do the christmas puddings for the first time.  I usually make a suet pudding which takes around 4-5 hours of steaming in a pot on the stove.  I'm just a bit worried about using the varoma/thermomix for such a long period of time.  Can i run it continuously for this length of time?  NB - Of course, I would keep checking the water level to make sure that it doesn't boil dry. 

Has anyone else tried a suet pudding in the varoma?

Hi Jenny,  I choose to cook mine on the stove.  I don't really want to run the motor  for this length of time.  However I am not a consultant,  just an ordinary cook.

Jenny why bother? I doubt it would take any less time and most likely more.

Like Chookie I probably wouldn't, but more so because I don't think I could stand the continuous speed 3-4 noise for 5 hours :)

I'd use the stove too Jenny and leave the TMX for the delicious brandy custard on Christmas Day.

Hi Jenny. If you really want to steam it in the Varoma why not divide the mix into several smaller puddings. They will not take as long that way. I have made them in dariole moulds and steamed them in the Varoma. I have also done normal steamed puddings in the Varoma. I just make individual ones.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Hi Jenny

I make little steamed individual christmas puddings in the Varoma and they took the same amount of time as on the stove top - 90 minutes.

I know this is too late but I cooked one steamed one in the TMX and the other on the stove and I wouldn't bother with the TMX. I felt I needed to check the water more often and the noise did become a bit irritating. I also didn't think I got as good as result for the same amount of time.
