Title: Chicken Tikka Masala
Post by: cookie1 on October 10, 2009, 10:10:03 am
Chicken Tikka Masala
Fast and Easy Indian Cooking   page 89
Tweaking

I made the tikka paste with quite a few alterations, mainly because I couldn't get the ingredients. I couldn't get coriander seeds so used a little powder, I only used about 5 dried chillies as I was afraid it would be too hot, and slightly less ginger as I hadn't bought enough.

The Chicken Tikka Masala I made exactly as the recipe but used less oil to cook it with. We really loved the flavour and will enjoy using up the rest of the Tikka paste.

5/5

I would cook from it every night as DD and I love that sort of food. DH isn't so fond of it. :'(

Thanks for the review, cookie1. My husband loves chicken tikka masala and we can't get a decent one in Germany. I'll surprise him with it tomorrow. The Indian cookbook really is brilliant.

This is on my menu plan for next week.

Vivacity did you end up making it?   :)

Yes, I did :) I made the paste and then the chicken tikka masala. It turned out quite hot but since it's snowville here at the moment it was good for warming us up ;D

I have made this with chicken and prawns, both were fabulous!  Such a quick meal if you have already made a batch of the paste.

Cookie, just mentioned the Tikka paste in the thread about Korma.

I made my Tikka paste to recipe and it was HOT.  Delicious but hot.  I originally made it to use for the butter chicken but have since made the Chicken Tikka Masala as well.  I loved the flavour but it was too hot for the children.  It even had the two of us sweating (had to have a beer with it).

Next batch of Tikka paste I will cut back on the chilli otherwise I'm going to end up having to cook separate adult/children meals.

I often cut back on the chilli.  Usually about every second batch.

made the tikka paste earlier this week and am really happy with it.  whilst it is a bit of a palaver to make, it means that for the next 6 weeks (that's how long is keeps in the fridge) we can have variations on a tikka theme with little or no preparation.

I love the Tikka Paste. I feel it will keep a lot longer than that versace. I made sausage rolls yesterday and threw in two tablespoons of it into the sausage mixture. Scrummy!

I never put the amount of chillies that these recipes call for.

I have the tikka paste cooking currently.
I only put in 1/2 the requested chillies, not wanting it too hot.
It says it's supposed to be red, but mine's more a brown so far. The recipe calls for tomato PUREE, but I'm wondering if the recipe writer meant tomato PASTE. Anyone have any input here?
Thanks.

I always use tomato paste in mine too. Mine is sort of a brownish red. I tend to add things and leave things out each time I make it.

This review from Sassafrass 30/7/11 is copied from another posting on the forum

The 1st time I made the Chicken tikka I thought there wasn't enough sauce, so this time I doubled it, however this made far too much, so next time I will make the exact quantities from the book (this way you finish thinking I would love a little more instead of oh my - I can't finish this).  The original recipe made enough to feed 2 adults and 3 children (aged 3-8).
5 Stars

Have just made the full amount of the tika paste. I keep it in the freezer.

Looking for different ideas to use the paste & Jamie Oliver uses some of the patak range of pastes, so looked at the website & heres a different masala recipe. Lots of ideas on the website. :)

Would someone be kind enough to send me the recipe for the Tikka Paste and Chicken Tikka Masala? I love Indian food!

I need to find out if we can order the book from Belgium...
