I have just been looking through the 'recipe tweaks' thread to find corrections etc for my EDC cookbook. And I have a suggestion that I hope can be looked at positively and not as a complaint.
Some of the threads are getting a little dated and Huge! I was wondering if they can be "cleaned" after they get a little stale. Just thinking that as this forum gets older and bigger and better, it is going to get harder to find the "recipe tweaks" amongst the other "stale" comments which are no longer relevant.
Just to be clear, I am loving this forum and finding it very inspiring. But also time consuming as I trawl through threads trying to find what I'm looking for.
-
it's a good idea cathy! :) but not one i want to do, sorry. i can't even keep up with posting on threads and keeping the recipe indexes up to date at the moment lol
-
When I am searching for tips for a particular recipe I do a general search for that recipe and then scroll down until I find a comment in the tweak thread. It saves going through the whole tweaking list.
I think cleaning up that section would be quite difficult. I guess ideally that section would have it's own heading, individual posts and an index, but that would be such a huge job - too huge. :)
-
Hi Cathy,
It's a great idea - I often think that when I go to print a recipe but end up with 5 pages of postings of which many are irrelevant but it's a huge task! Perhaps some people would be able to delete their own comments if they weren't really relevant or benficial to the reader??
-
Funny ILB, I thought the same thing (still a mammoth task though for those of us who have been around for a while :-)) :-)))
I have learnt how to just print out the recipe now though and not get pages and pages of comments thanks to the odd computer lesson held on this forum ;) ;)
-

I read this wrong and it made me giggle.
Quite often, the threads do go wildly OT and are no longer relevant, but it's all part of us getting to know each other I reckon.
Perhaps we could start a Tweaking list #2... ?
-
Well, I've done my homework for the night. Deleted at least 25 postings from this subject - it does come off your total too by the way.

Dearest Members,
Great point raised and at the correct time. I cannot say much at this point but there will be some changes next month, which will make our lives easier. I can't wait to officially break the news. Stay tuned

ohhhh more excitement MM....can we handle it ;D ;D ;D ;D Of course we can!! BRING IT ON lol
-
LOL. It will be a nice change. I am sure Thermomixer and brazen will be happy :)
Have a pleasant evening.
Take care

I don't mind changes but am a bit worried things may get too complicated for some of us oldies. Sort of looking forward to it but hoping I don't find it too daunting. I know my way around this forum like the back of my hand, hope it will be as easy MM.
-
Thank you so much for your replies. I was very nervous posting this suggestion as I was afraid it would come across wrong!
-
Never be afraid to make comments Cathy - we don't bite ;D ;D ;D Some of us may not agree with everything everyone says but that's life - we are all allowed to have an opinion and express it in the proper manner which you certainly did.
-
Oh dear, my mind is totally warped. My initial thought on seeing "cleaning old posts" was wondering what did a TMX have in common with cleaning old fence posts. I'm way too comfortable on this site, I'm sure I need to get out more and not play with my TMX so much. Perhaps I'm just 'over the hill'
-
i'm more than happy to start new tweaking lists, or even the what areyou cooking thread, i've just always assumed everyone wanted them long or they would have said otherwise LOL i'm not used to such long threads!

Thanks Judy. Appreciate it.

we have definitely had lots of great ideas from members to make the forum better so always feel free to make suggestions!

I continue to be impressed by how nice & friendly everyone is on this forum. When visiting other forums, you often see a narky comment here & there (& sometimes everywhere) and 'missing' comments that have clearly been moderated due to their inappropriate content.
I have yet to come across anything like that on this forum. Even though you do see clearly different viewpoints in various threads there is never any hint of rudeness.
Can't wait to see the changes that MM is hinting at.
-
i can let my nasty side free today if you'd like to see it, i am having ONE OF THOSE DAYS lol

Good idea - just may need some extra moderators.
It would be good to make sure all tweaks are also sent to TMX OZ or TMX UK and hopefully they follow up
It would help if anybody identifies "stale" posts then they could hit the "report" buttton to tell the moderators that the posts are out of date
-
So if we just press the "report" button, will that highlight the thread for moderators to "clean"?
-
I've just sent a test through regarding the "two recipe requests" thread. Now this is fixed, it might not be necessary.
-
cathy, it emails all the mods. then we all ignore it hoping someone else will sort it.
haha, just joking! whoever is on first will fix it if it's something we know is ok, otherwise we leave it for MM if we're not sure if he'd want it done or not.
-
Yeah - as long as there are moderators !!!! - what happens is your message results in some poor sucker receiving the following:
The following post, "Re: Two recipe request forums?" by Ayla has been reported by cathybenson79 on a board you moderate: http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=798.msg7272#msg7272 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=798.msg7272#msg7272) The reporter has made the following comment:stale thread test Regards,The Forum Thermomix Team.
What she said - we ignore all the annoying messages from peple we don't like - but that's not YOU ;) ;D :-*

No guts no glory brazen - what do you mean you can't keep up ? don't worry about root canals and pain - just do it

Wouldn't it be great if every recipe had a topic and any tweaks were just listed under that thread?
-
Yes, I wish the tweaks were under the recipe. I keep finding recipes to try, then accidentally find their improvements or changes - usually after I've tried them and they weren't quite right.

Sorry ILB - the majority of my posts are probably not relevant - but I'm having fun at others' expense - maybe we should find a different system to record "tweaks" :-*
-

That is annoying !! - wouldn't it be great if TMX Oz had a site with updates to refer to for their recipe books and then updated the recipes and sent all users an update?
-
Quite often, the threads do go wildly OT and are no longer relevant, but it's all part of us getting to know each other I reckon.
Not sure why that would happen? What have you been cooking lately?

You are so diligent - thanks for making the moderators' lives easier.

I can't wait - somebody to take my place as a moderator? Thermomixes trained to do moderation?

I think it was a joke.... LOL :)

Who would I be able to annoy? No, just reducing my load and getting others to help. Our TMXs are kitchen robots - so we may be able to get Forum robots too?

In an ultimate world, yes. In the meantime, can we get some suggestions going? Mine is tweaks with their original recipe so they're right where we need them, rather than in a different section.
-
Great idea - happy for you to start posting in the correct threads - easiest for you to just copy the post that you get when you hit "Quote" and make it a post under the original recipe.
Will be a big improvement - thanks.
May just have to Put some under headings in the relevant sections - like make a new thread for Leek and Potato Soup and then collate tweaks under that thread. Many of the tweaks will not have recipes posted here as Copyright will prevent us publishing all the recipes in the EDC, but the Tweaks can still be posted in soups, salads, dips or whatever the relevant section would be.
