Title: My TMX won't play with me anymore
Post by: judydawn on August 04, 2010, 09:47:27 am
Hi everyone, been out all day so have only just had a chance to ring H.O. to explain the problem I started having yesterday.  My speed selection dial seems to be stuck.  It will move a little sometimes (from open lid to soft stir position) but I feel as if I am forcing it and it certainly will not go any further.  It has had a lot of use over the past 22 months so I am just thankful it has played up before the warranty period runs out.  Anyone had that problem or any consultant who knows of anyone sending their machine back for this problem?  H.O. took all the details and I was told they will get back to me tomorrow probably.  Anyone know if there are technicians here in Adelaide, she seemed to think there were but admitted to being a new employee who has only just finished her training so did not want to tell me too much in case she was wrong.

Yes there is a tech in Adelaide who can look at it. If they dont get back to you tomorrow pm me and I will give you the number to call for the adelaide person.
Hope it gets fixed!

Thanks riv-mum, great to hear we have one here.  I hated the thought of transporting it back to Perth & would much rather deliver it myself. H.O. did ask me if I had a consultant but I've been told mine doesn't do it anymore.

Judy I know you cook a lot,  but the machine should be  able to do more than 22 months.  Could you borrow your DD's bowl and lid to see if it is a base problem.?

Post by: judydawn on August 04, 2010, 02:28:12 pm
Yes I could Chookie, in fact she has said previously I could borrow her whole machine if mine broke down  :-)) :-)) Obviously I use mine a lot more than she does.  I will wait and see what H.O. say tomorrow and give your option a go at the weekend if I still have my machine. If it is quite a common complaint, the technician will know what is causing it.

jd I know this sounds stupid to a veteran user like yourself but are you engaging the lid, I mean has it "clicked into place" before you turn the dials?
Title: Re: My TMX won't play with me anymore
Post by: judydawn on August 04, 2010, 02:59:55 pm
Not a silly question Cornish Cream - everything is worth trying. It does click into place.  It actually started acting stiff yesterday during soup making when I was wanting to blitz it at the end.  I managed to get the job done but it has just got stiffer and seized up since. Funny question the girl on the phone at H.O. asked me today though - do you get a beep sound when the lid is engaged?  I've never had a beep sound, only the click sound and told her so.  She did say she has only just finished her training so perhaps a beep or a click is one and the same.

I've never had a beep sound either?  Thank goodness it is still under warrenty. Hope it gets fixed soon.

If it needs TLC in Perth and you want to bring it to yourself we can have a SA- WA catch up  ;) ;)
(always a bed here for you as well)

I have never noticed the bleep before when the lid is engaged but when using the TM this evening my TM does bleep. :o

Well, there you go, some have a beep and others may not have even noticed it.  I will take more attention when my machine gets fixed. Thanks for your offer VHJ  ;D ;D ;D  :-* :-*

Ooh yes Judy, bring it over we'll take care of you.

I am devastated about your machine Judy, I can just imagine how you feel. Mine is 20 months old now and I am getting a little scared that something will happen to it, for the money it should last a LONG time. I hope it is something very minor that can be fixed with ease.
My lid beeps and clicks.

Mine probably did before all this Cookie but I never noticed.  I can just see all our members checking to see if theirs beeps now  :D :D :D

Hope it is fixed for you soon JD - it is very hard being with out it  :-)) :-))

All the machines beep when you lock the lid in, it is very faint though and you will need to listen for it with no other noise around. Once you have heard it you will always hear it when you listen for it. What makes it hard to hear is that it does happen at the same time as the click when the lid locks on  ;) ;)

Hi JD,
Sorry to hear about your baby being sick!! That's terrible news. Haven't had a chance to reply to your email yet, but I have never come across this problem.  ???

Yes, I did go and check my lid to see if it beeped. I knew at least the newer ones do as I point it out to new customers during the briefing and had to check if mine did (it's about 27 months old) so wasn't sure if the older ones didn't. But it does.  ;)

Did you hear back from anyone today?

Yes ILB, late this afternoon H.O. rang.  They have referred my problem to the group leader (you see her around at all the cooking classes here) and she will get a consultant who lives closest to me to come out and check the machine. If I don't hear from anyone by the end of next week! I have to give HO another ring.  I then pointed out how much I will miss it which alterted her to the fact that my machine is not working at all so she was going to send another text off to the GL.
Apparently the GL's DH is the service mechanic. We received notification today from H.O. about some cooking classes coming up and the GL's email address and mobile phone number was on it so I have all the information I need from that and can chase her up myself if need be.

Hi Judydawn.  Just woindering how you are getting on with your machine.  Has it been fixed yet?  You might have mentioned this in another thread but I have been away.  I hope your problem was resolved quickly and that your Thermie is back in action.

I am still without my TMX earth mumma.  It was picked up by the Group Leader last Tuesday when I wasn't here and I think it will be ready tomorrow but haven't heard officially. The reason for the delay is because the technician was away for a week.  It will be 2 weeks tomorrow when it stopped working and I am beginning to miss it now.  Took advantage of not having it and have eaten out half of the last two weeks and the rest of the time I have mainly used my slow cooker so have coped much better than I thought I would.  I am hanging out for some home baked rolls though and have a list of things waiting to be tried when he comes home.

Finally heard what was wrong with my TMX this afternoon - the base was cracked and has been replaced.  I am assuming it is that grey/black bit which the bowl fits into but will find out when my machine is delivered to me late on Saturday afternoon, all being well. Confirmation of this tomorrow.

I also will be interested to hear how this could have happened girls.  Certainly not from abuse, maybe hard work? Will also be asking how much it would have cost if not under warranty too. Hopefully they give a warranty on new parts too.

Hopefully it won't be too long.  They need "Loan Machines" to send out.

Yay, he is back  ;D ;D ;D  After almost 2 weeks away and an extra 6 days at home unable to be used, my dear boy has been fixed and already put to work with the first stage of making some sourdough rolls - will finish off in the morning and bake them.
Ever wondered how many hours work your machine has done girls?  Well, due to the black box they are able to tell and I was informed I had used my machine quite a lot, in fact 2,500 hours.  The cracked bit was in fact the actual base of the machine (the grey bit on the bottom with the feet for the scales).  The crack was inside so not visible to me when cleaning it and this obviously caused my timer to be thrown out of wack.  I asked the question - how much would this have cost me if it had been out of warranty - around the $200 mark I was told.  Now life can return to normal.

I'm so pleased for you JD.... just think, if the machine has done 2,500 hours, you must have done even more than that  ;D ;D

I was so excited to see him again JulieO that I was stroking him gently and talking to him - DH just shook his head  :D :D  His peaceful existence is now over and once again he will have to contend with the noises coming from the kitchen.  Mind you, it doesn't seem to be as loud as it was before.

LOL judydawn, I've been following this thread with interest (given that the breakdown of a very expensive appliance is pretty significant), and it's nice to know I'm not the only lunatic. I very often give my Norwalk juicer and my Vita-Mix little pats, loving wipe-downs (to the exclusion of the rest of my home, which is a mess), and verbal thanks for a job well done. They work hard for us--why shouldn't we show them our appreciation?

Great news JD. I'm not surprised at the number of hours work your TMX has done - you have so many reviews and original recipes on here. What is amazing is when you consider a cake is only about 30-40 seconds in the machine. Thats a lot of cakes  :) :)

Glad to hear I am not the only one MacGuffin  :D :D
It would be a lot of cakes VHJ but I think my time gets racked up more with mains and soups.
Ceejay, you are right, no need to find out what your black box reveals - would be nice to be able to retrieve that information ourselves though. I think you would find anyone who uses their machine daily or many times in a day and have had it as long as mine, would also be up around that figure or even more perhaps.
Thanks for your interest in my problem girls - here's hoping you all have a trouble free run with your machine.

yay JD ..so glad to hear you have him back and finally can get back into cooking the thousands of many delish meals!!

2500 does sound alot but im sure once you broke it down to average time per meal divided by how many meals a day over the period you have had yoru machine it isnt that much really!  my husband does that to me with grocerys or other...mega bills..he looks at how many items i have bought divides it by that number and if it comes close to the average price of an item then he just says no its fine lol!  So now thats how i approach big numbers!!  :P

glad to hear you back in teh kitchen anyway jd  :) :) :) :)

Hi JD.  Very good news  :D :D My thermie is out of action again.  I am having on going issues with my blades.  They were replaced 4 mths ago and now the new ones are broken : :'( :'(.  I only have 2 weeks left of my warranty so I am really hoping that this will be the last time.  It has made me a bit nervous I must admit, but I love my Thermie and use it so much that I don't know what to do with out it and don't know how I can manage wholefood cooking without it helpng me.   :( :( This morning I was at a loss first up as breakfast is always made in my Thermie - rice milk, polenta, porriage or a breaky shake.  My oven went off to the repair shop last week too, so I am in a real spot.  (The oven is only 3yrs old, but out of warranty).  I think I've forgotten how to cook without the help of my Thermy and oven  :P :P
Title: Re: My TMX won't play with me anymore

That's not good earth mumma, let's hope they can work out why the blades are breaking this time - lucky you are within the warranty period (albeit it only just).  Then to have the oven let you down too, it must be really hard at mealtimes.  I coped really well without mine for almost 3 weeks but it is so nice to have him back. I can see you need him a lot more than I do though with your type of cooking so good luck with the outcome this time.

earth mumma, i have just replied to another post about extended warranty (http://www.choice.com.au/Reviews-and-Tests/Technology/Home-entertainment/Accessories/Extended-warranties/Page/Extended%20warranties.aspx) so I hope this is of some benefit to you  :) it is reasonable to expect an oven to last more than 3 years so you need to stick up for your rights.
Title: Re: My TMX won't play with me anymore
Post by: earth mumma on August 23, 2010, 07:10:13 am
Thanks for that everyone.  Had a chat this morning with HO.  The blades are not covered by the warranty (even though they did replace the last ones) and I am trying to find out what to do now via my consultant.  They seem to feel that I must be doing something wrong  :( :( for them to break again and that this is actually a very rare problem.  Since I got the new ones I have been VERY careful about how I use them and have been sticking to the guidleines like glue.  ??? ??? So I don't know what's going on.  I'll let you know.
