Cakes / Re: Banana-Chocolate cake to die for!
« on: August 08, 2013, 12:11:27 pm »
They are gorgeous Frozzie! The cooking time seems to throw off a few people but in the end, it's trial and error as every oven is different. Glad you liked the cakes, they are always a hit at my house but I find that they are much nicer warm. The next day, I always reheat my slice a few seconds in the microwave to get that "just out of the oven" feeling!

Thanks to all for Smokey. Greyhoundmum, Tom is gorgeous and he's so cute with his teddy! Yesterday, Smokey took a liking to one of my child's barbie doll! Funny the things they fancy!

Thanks KatieJ. I think they could be good pets for us, especially with regards to allergies we have in the family (bith DH and DD have asthma). Stef, I know the problem with Greyhounds abuse, here in Ireland, they do lots of greyhound racing and I heard of terrible stories about what happens to them when they're too old to race. I'll get in touch with animal shelters to find out more about them...

Hey everyone! Haven't been here in ages, but I have read the last few pages and I read that Dede lost her kitty Dozer, RIP! I've seen beautiful birds, a cute rats and that Luka has grown a lot!
Remember I was looking to adopt a greyhound? We've just adopted a whippet (small greyhound) and I couldn't resist posting his picture. His name is Smokey, he's 6 and was given up by his previous owner who didn't really care about him much. I picked him up from his foster home today and he's a real gentle creature, so placid and eager to please. A dream of a dog. I now hope that DH doesn't develop an allergy to him...

Hi Tarasis, I'm not surprised because this recipe comes from a friend who leaves near Germany (Alsace), so the recipes must be very similar...

Ah they are all so cute! It's great to see so much variety of pets, could there be someone with a pet snake or tarantula I wonder? I have a question for the greyhounds owners. I heard opposite things about them: one is that they need a lot of excercise and space in the garden to run and another that they are couch potatoes. Which one is it?

Thanks Gretchen and Judy, that's a great idea! I will have a peek at this post even though I have no pets because of allergies in the family  :-\

The breeder just sent us a new pucture of Luka.. He is coming in friday!
He's adorable!

Thanks a bunch Merrilyn  ;)

Thanks guys about your method of sterilising. I will look into it (but first, I would need to find proper jars and that might be an easy task!!)

13
Thanks Steph. Do you think I could sterilise in a bain marie in the oven instead? I don't have a canning device...

Sorry to catch the conversation half way through but I am intrigued by your quatre quart recipe Steph (welll, the keeping in the jar bit). Do you cook the dough in the jar? So you soak it in alcohol to keep it or you sterilise the pot?
