I use a combination of the two porridge recipes from the 2 everyday cook books...

For about 2 people:

100g rolled oats
400g milk/water (sometimes I do 50/50 othertimes 300ml water (just straight out of the filter) and 100ml milk (straight from the fridge)
pinch of salt

Cook on reverse speed 1-2 for 8-9 minutes at 90C

For a yummy variation I first blitz (turbo once or twice) a handful of almonds then add some craisons (dried cranberries) linseeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, then add all the rest of the ingredients.

JB has made a really nice one that I had when I stayed there once with just a good quality mixed dried fruit. She must have pulsed them with the turbo button, and some seeds and almonds similar to what I posted.  But you could add what ever you liked.

my current gluten free / dairy free porridge version is:

1 ripe banana
35g brown rice flakes
10g quinoa flakes
200g rice or soy milk

cook 7 mins, 90'c speed 4

We have been having issues with consistancy and temperature of the finished porridge. However we finally cracked it this morning  ;D

100g oats
260 of boiling water from the kettle
260 of milk

on 90 degrees  :-: ^^ for 10 minutes

I will hopefully get around to posting the changes from the EDC but seeing as this is a topic, the new EDC has:

Variation for a thicker porridge
100g Rolled Oats
400g Milk or Milk and water mixed
pinch salt

Method
Place all ingredients into TM bowl. Cook for 10 mins at 90 degrees on  :-: Speed 1.

Tip: If soaking oats overnight, reduce cooking time by 2-3 mins
Even if not making the thicker porridge, the measurement of ingredients do not change but amend the new time for normal porridge is 8-9 mins at 90 degrees on  :-: Speed soft

Hi all
For us, porridge works on a 1:4 ratio - 1 part oats to 4 parts water/milk.  So for my 2 girls I do 50g oats, 200g milk/water 6 min 80 rev sp 1

Oh goodness.  Will you look at all of the variations of porridge making in this thread.  We have hit the nasty cold weather here in Tas and are needing some porridge for brekky.  After so many porridge flops last year, I am looking for some serious inspiration.  I guess I will just start at the top and keep going until I find one that suits our tastes.  Tomorrow morning - ILB's version!!  ;D

One tip from someone just coming out of winter...Whatever recipe you have, use speed 3 or 4 and that will avoid the porridge sticking to the bowl.   Saves hours of cleaning.   I picked this tip up from someone on here and it saved my sanity.   ;) ;)

Katya, thank you for that hint re cooking porridge on speed 3/4 as the bowl pretty well self-cleaned afterwards. After yesterday's talk of porridge weather being here, I too decided to have it this morning so I soaked 50g oats overnight in 110g water (having first blitzed the oats for 2 sec/speed 8 as I like the finer style). This morning I added 20g boiling water and 130g hot milk & cooked it at 90o/reverse/speed 3 for 6 minutes and it was perfect for me.  I don't eat a big breakfast so this amount does 2 serves for me.

Thanks Ladies.  I still haven't had any luck (3 more different attempts today), although they thankfully were easy to clean as they were very runny.

I am starting to think that perhaps our idea of "porridge" is quite different to other peoples.  We have our porridge thick and quite gluggy (no runny liquid left after cooking time).  After it is cooked we spoon it into serving bowls and add milk.  The milk pools around the porridge. To eat the porridge you kind of "cut it" with your spoon.

Is that what your porridge recipe is like JD?  Perhaps I could double your quantities and see how I go?  :)
